I just hit my end of the year goal of 2k oz of Silver in 100oz bar form.

All of my silver was bought at 98-110 ratio. My plan is to wait until that ratio drops to 15 and trade all of it into Gold.

This way, instead of only having 20oz of gold. Converting the silver will get me between 100-250oz of gold.

Depending where we are with the stock market and real estate at the time, I plan to buy as many dirt cheap assets until gold is only 20% of my overall portfolio.

In the US the historical average is a 1:16 ratio. Throughout history its closer to 1:10. The mining ratio is currently 1:8.

100oz of gold is the lowest ill trade for, which is if I traded at the 1:20 ratio. Where gold prices could go this still gets me over a million dollars untaxed.

Got a question, forgive any stupidity.

So my mom just got a fairly significant amount of money, that she wants to use towards a house, in around 6 months to a year's time. The money is just sitting there in her account though, she's wary of investing it or anything, so would it be a decent idea for her to buy some PM with the money instead in the meantime?

Way I see it, both ways the value is just sitting there, but with the PM after a year or so the money could have earned her some value.

This idea of putting physical gold in a banknote is cute and funny as an idea, but terrible in practice. You can’t put anymore than a tiny amount of PM in a bank note. And how do you extract it? Measure it (reliably)?

The original concept of actual gold coins for large purchases and silver and copper for smaller just werks. It has drawbacks (security issues, threat of clipping and debasement etc) but these can be mitigated especially with modern technology.

Pic related is not a precious metal coin, but gives a good example of how modern technology can actually overcome the problems the gold standard used to suffer from.

I know nometals are usually encouraged to buy gold up to their first 10k, but given the current situation / the ratio closing, would it be wise to invest in silver instead? I’ve got about 5k fiat to spend.

Looking at either 200 1oz silver coins (buffalos or brittanias), or a few 1/2 Oz gold coins (or maybe two 1oz bars). Also considering gold jewelry (18k if so. None of that mene shit).

Anyone have any thoughts? I saw someone lay out a convincing argument for gold in an old general but now I can’t find it. And yes I have a happening mentality if that matters.

Buy 525 of these
https://silvergoldbull.com/1-2-oz-u-s-australian-wwii-silver-coin

Its 262.5 oz silver for under $19 an ounce. An anon posted it earlier. I dont know who has silver for cheaper per ounce than that. If you want 1 oz coins then JM Bullion has Philharmonics for 21 each, you can get like 180 oz of those. Will sell easier than big fat bars.

Gold will grow and it will grow first but silver while it will grow slower, it will grow more. Right now the ratio of silver to gold is a bit over 100 so its 100 oz silver for 1oz gold, when silver spikes after gold if for example silver gold ratio is now 40, you can trade off 40 oz for 1 oz gold, the 262 oz above can be sold off to buy 6.5 oz gold. Your current money can buy like 2.5 oz gold.

Gold is the ultimate goal, and safe and steady. Silver is slower and unsteady but still a grower and a bigger one at that. Since you are new, I suggest silver first. Particularly since the ratio is so high. The average is around 65 and historically its a lot lower than that. Right now its over 100.

Many people will say, and largely rightfully so, that silver is silver. So it will always sell for w/e the spot price is at the very least. Government coins and fancy name brand bars and what not do carry an extra premium with them for a number of reasons. Ideally, I would say coins are nice, certainly have some and it would be good if it were from your countries mint but it doesnt really matter honestly. You do get more silver for your dollar by getting generic rounds and bars and the bigger the bar the closer to spot and the larger volume you buy at once as well.

Right now with the crazy premiums and this virus shit messing everything up, you might be better off getting as much silver for your dollar if you intend to flip but with the price of the Philharmonics being so low, or the British Britannias also on JMB for the same price I think, you might as well buy those and lose out on 30 oz since you are getting a government coin, recognized, trusted, etc. Those 1/2 coins linked earlier are also legal tender gov coins in Australia but they are rather unknown.

So if it were me, and I were new, I would get the Britannia or Philharmonic coins given their price. It may take some time for spot to rise, years even like in 2008 when silver hit 8 bucks then hit 50 in 2011 for a short time. But by then you would have also accumulated more money maybe and you can buy some more coins or generic rounds or bars.

Maybe other anons can give their 2 cents.

>In 1787, the United States Constitution established gold and silver as the legal tender of the United States[24] at a floating exchange rate. Then in 1792, Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton proposed fixing the silver to gold exchange rate at 15:1, as well as establishing the mint for the public services of free coinage and currency regulation "in order not to abridge the quantity of circulating medium.".[25] With its acceptance, Sec.11 of the Coinage Act of 1792 established: "That the proportional value of gold to silver in all coins which shall by law be current as money within the United States, shall be as fifteen to one, according to quantity in weight, of pure gold or pure silver;" the proportion had slipped by 1834 to sixteen to one. Silver took a further hit with the Coinage Act of 1853, when nearly all silver coin denominations were debased, effectively turning silver coinage into a fiduciary currency based on its face value rather than its weighted value. Bimetallism was effectively abandoned by the Coinage Act of 1873, but not formally outlawed as legal currency until the early 20th century. The merits of the system were the subject of debate in the late 19th century. If the market forces of supply and demand for either metal caused its bullion value to exceed its nominal currency value, it tends to disappear from circulation by hoarding or melting down.

>Just found out that Britannias and other legal tender in the UK are Capital Gains Tax free because it's tender, and in turn treated as coinage
About to go for some FUCKING (maple) LEAFS, but you know what, I think I might spend a little more. Have a few bars and plates in the safe that will get taxed, but hopefully that'll just about duck under the tax allowance for the year for when I short it (then re-invest the money made off of plate/bar into coinage so it only happens for the first short)

Looking forward to the moon mission boys, I might have missed the megadip about a month back, but all isn't lost yet.

What was I wrong on? Dealers and merchants will not pay you the spot price when it comes time to cash in. Nigger please, the world is not going to end. Business and trade will still be going on. When fiat is hyperinflating you think Gold and Silver wont be liquid?

I have guns, and ammo. I have a years worth of food and hygiene. My 2,000oz of silver is going to be traded by ratio's. I'll avoid any taxes by buying assets WITH the gold, IE paying a starving boomer in silver or gold for his house when prices are bottoming.
