I don't know if there is a general rule is, but from my observations if a dividend is above 10% you'll be lucky if you get one or two distributions before the dividend is cancelled. A high dividend is normally caused by a stock crashing in value - eg a 5% dividend becomes a 30% dividend (6x up) when the stock goes "6x" down (loses 85% value).
