Seriously when is the government going to bail out landlords? I’m really worried about them.

Landlord here. Most of the hate landlords get comes about from government compulsion. Section 8 vouchers ruining cohesive neighborhoods while sucking up supply and driving up rents, ultra strict anti-discrimination housing laws, zoning restricting suply and driving up rent, rent control resulting in deteriorating buidings low supply growth, open borders to artificially boost population growth overwhelming what little construction there is, licensing/permitting laws preventing people from building their own homes. It is ironic that the people who complain most loudly about landlords are the same people who vote for the policies that fuck themselves. I do my best to subvert all these laws, which is why i have 100% of my tenants still paying rent, and with the small fraction paying a reduced rate, im ok because they are people I want in my neighborhood.

Reminder that landlords are facing the same reckoning that airbnb owners are: during boom times they bought up a ton of properties relying on the demand Of others for a place to live or stay to ensure they get their money. That caused scarcity in the housing market that made owning a house impossible for average people who just wanted a place for themselves to live. Now people cant afford the insane premiums to live in these places carrying over from boom years and we’re seeing what happens to individuals who scoop up lots of real estate that isnt just for themselves to live on.

I dont have a single tenant of latino origin, mostly because they always ask if they can move into a single bedroom apartment with their 8 children and undocumented parents. There are unscrupulous landlords that will rent to such tenants, even though those 8 kids represent a ~$200,000 a year tax burden via public education and resulting lowering of average performace in said school district. Ive lived in japan, and ive delivered into the ghetto for work, ive seen first hand what works and what doesnt, on top of my experience as a landlord. People are not equal, and there is no passive or friendly-to-everyone way about maintaining a good neighborhood, certain people cannot be allowed a foothold.
