Should I buy gold now or wait to see where prices go when markets reopen soon? Or wait a few weeks or months? Afraid of a big boomer sell off by FOMO buyers who want cash back for expenses when coronachan goes away. Though every pandemic does come with a larger wave 2 and that might hit us by Sept/Oct and the buying of PM's begin again. But that sell off will tank prices and I can get more gold for cheap than pay now.

Thats if prices drop though. China and Korea are re-shutting down things for spikes in cases and Texas has new spikes after they re-opened 2 weeks ago. This wave may just extend until the 2nd wave with no price drop off and even shorter supply of PM's like gold.

What do?

the real problem isn't so much keeping fakes out of your collection. That's easy. Just buy from actual dealers.

the real problem is trying to sell your collection later. Not that anyone here plans to sell. But when it comes time to sell something that has millions of fakes it becomes more difficult to find someone willing to buy second hand.

some of them are steel and fail all tests. Some are lead/antimony and fail some tests. Most are silver and don't fail any test.

basically you pay a $12 premium for an ASE and it turns out to be a generic Chinese round that might or might not be pure silver. Most of the silver ones are a weak alloy.

we store your ID for 3 years at best. Most of us don't store it at all once the IRS forms have been submitted. 1 year. And if you want me to search my records for your sale it's going to cost more than the coin is worth. And even if I do that doesn't prove that you didn't fake a robbery or that you didn't substitute a fake coin that was later stolen or offered for sale.

essentially nothing you suggest is good proof of anything. Once the coin leaves my hands I have no evidence of what you did with it.

That is part of what I do yes, when people hire me to look for gold on their placer properties I usually end up getting side commissioned to optimize their setups. The shit people build on a budget to go mining is nuts, and some of the crap they buy thinking it will make them rich is even more insane. One crew I worked with last year bought these giant 9ftx9ft plastic spiral concentrator setups from a Chinese supplier. Its funny how real gold fever is especially when the price gets high. I deeply regret not picking up a cheap claim on the American river in California back in 2001 when gold was only worth around $375 an ounce.

value is in the eye of the beholder

1) lumping all people of a certain group into all thinking the same thought just proves your ignorance

2) I personally buy gold and silver bullion because is it a proven store of wealth and has acted pretty reliably for the last ~5000+ years of human civilization, that's good enough reason for me

By "goldbugs" I'm talking about Schifftards and everyone else who thinks gold has "inherent value because of the effort it takes to mine it".
Regular investors aren't "bugs".

you are right to say "proof of work" is not a sole source of value. To come up with a generally unanimous definition of value, it is such a complicated formula with many different variables it is too hard to make it simple.

However proof of work has inherent value certainly, whether it be in mining and producing fine gold/silver, or digging a trench as you put.

>> No.19147600

>However proof of work has inherent value certainly
It's an argument you can sort of use in certain cases, but it's not going to stop prices from dropping waaaaay below manufacturing cost if demand isn't there.
In such cases, manufacturers will be more than happy to sell way below manufacturing cost just to cut some losses.

The problem is Schiff says gold has "inherent value because of the effort it takes it mine it", in contrast to fiat in his mind.
And more than one person in these threads agree with him.
Absolutely horrifying.

Instead of acting like an autistic child memeing, makes whatever you say look really stupid. You seem to be a knowledgeable individual in all actuality and I can now respect your opinions.

>The problem is Schiff says gold has "inherent value because of the effort it takes it mine it", in contrast to fiat in his mind.

did he really say this as the be-all, end-all of his reasoning behind gold? i feel like this is a mis-quote taken out of context that people heard on a JRE episode and parrot it as their own reasoning. Probably just a miscommunication/mis-quoting. Not to say that people who hear that, then believe are themselves ignorant.

I have two of Schiff's books and he's definitely not that stupid.

>did he really say this as the be-all, end-all of his reasoning behind gold?
Yes.

> i feel like this is a mis-quote taken out of context
It is not.
He's directly contrasting gold and fiat, saying mining effort gives gold its "inherent value" while fiat is printed without effort and thus has no "intrinsic value".

You are fucking braindead lmao. It have nothing to do with schiff, and everything to do with the most basic principles of economy. Even a 5yo kid can get it, all you have to do is follow basic logic by agreeing with these few points :
- gold is an inert natural ressource
- everyone can have access to gold, since it's literally in the ground
- yet gold is very expensive
- because it's rare
- thus, it require a lot of MANPOWER to extract
- thus, you don't pay for a ressource laying on the ground, but for the manpower it took to extract
- if it was easy to pick up and in abundance, you wouldn't pay for gold, you'd simply bend the knee and grab it in your garden
- but since it's rare, you pay for other people to do it for you
- this is the price of gold

Well boys, once my next order from jm comes in I'll have 4 oz of gold and close to 200 oz of silver. I cant really justify buying more gold but i would like to get my silver stack to at least 500 oz. If things stay stable for the next few months i will probably pick up 100 oz per month, but my feeling is that the time is upon us where we will start to see severe breakdowns in the market.

Many of you are waiting for the inevitable paper crash, my thought is that in this case of all cases, time in the market will be much wiser than timing the market. Im getting quality, tested, goverment rounds as close to spot as possible. When the music stops i feel like the pickings will be... shall we say... slim.

And i do understand that silver is far more undervalued than gold at the moment, but why should i ignore gold completely? Especially when it is likely to be the primary metal in any new monetary paradigm after we finally print the dollar into oblivion to pay off our debts. This is not just another market fluctuation.

Sounds like a legit stack/strategy. It's too hard to say what is going to happen with stocks and PMs and crypto. Personally I don't think it's possible for the economy to not show serious cracks going forward. And when people stop hearing about the economic strain in the news and actually start feeling it in their purchasing power or job prospects - then reality will hit. I can't imagine most crypto/stocks doing well as an outcome of this. Sure there's plenty of money to be made in stocks and crypto if you've got the money to risk but I personally don't. I'd rather throw my money at PMs instead of gambling. Just go with whatever ratio you want, everyone will tell you something different but there's no way to know who is right.

I highly highly doubt there will be a collapse or reset and that if there was, we would more likely adopt some crypto/digital currency than go back to a gold standard. China is on its way to abandoning their shit for CCP backed digital currency soon.

bars are as cheap and close to spot price as you can literally get.

Also it is as far removed from subjective speculative value when selling as you can get.

>sell bar
>bar weighs 10 oz
>here is your money, sir. $ x 10 = payout

vs

>sell coins
>they get valued on their individual years
>if they're tarnished
>if they have scratches
>what design on them
Not worth the headache

You're highly, highly trusting of things as they are.

America is going to collapse, and the jew banking system will collapse with it. China and Russia will become the world powers following that, and both of them are heavily invested in metals.

Digital currency is jewish and will only come about during a world government near the time of Christ's return. The trend is towards nationalism, not globalism. Globalism is on its death throes until further notice. Even the EU is poised to collapse.

That's our national symbol used on many pre euro currency. It dates back 1000 years. I'm trying to pinpoint the exact origin of this specific design but it's hard. Apparently it was first used during crusades and then adopted by dukeship Nassau, who became influential in Dutch history for the past 500 years. It was also used as a national flag during the Batavian Republic, a revolutionary time where patriots used this symbol to do away with authoritarian aristocrats. Sort of like the Gadsden flag. The basis of our current constitution was founded by them, and was eventually adopted by our first king Willem van Oranje-Nassau when the French retreated, which is when our modern currency was introduced, with that lion on one side and the monarch on the other side. Which, coincidentally, is the family shield of the Nassau bloodline. It's funny because everyone was at war at the time and we sort of founded our own constitution without bloodshed and kept our sovereignty when the Russians defeated the French. It lasted when we became part of the Eurozone, and it's time for another revolution.

That looks like a lot to read, but it's not really. Read all of that and put it into a grand picture. Britain has already left the EU. Germany, its chief country, is going to leave it. America is collapsing demographically, economically, and ideologically.

There will be no central authority to oversee a digital currency as there will be smaller nation-states that prefer national forms of currency, most easily used in the form of tangible wealth, such as gold or silver. The jew banking system has destroyed itself, and there is no global government to fall into now. That's later, and nobody can say how much later, but it's not now.

Precious metals are the past and the future for some time to come, and especially the near future.

This, never ever had an issue selling bars. Ever.

Tried selling some brittanias on eBay and christ, got return requests for half of them due to the odd tiny milk spot or some scratch someone found with their loupe. Never again, poured bars and frosted coins (silver krugs) only.
