Happy you want in. I would recommend joining the Discord first; it gives you a quick rundown of everything, they also have links to video tutorials. Here’s a brief summary:
>download the node from idena.io
>join the discord, read the intro, and submit a couple good flips (you can generate practice flips in the idena client) and someone will send you an invite code
>you don’t have to make any flips yet. Just be awake and ready well ahead of time for validation (time listed only bottom left of node). If you don’t, you’re a huge chode-smoking ballsack and your inviter doesn’t get their bonus
>after validation, make your flips and let the node run whenever you can. Turn off mining status manually when not running the node or you’ll get a penalty and have to mine without profit until it’s paid off
>and so our story begins again

Be nice in the community, and help fellow idenabros and future idenabros out. To address your other questions:
- no, it’s not heavy on CPU or other resources, and can be run as a background task (check discord)
- if you want a second node, get a VPS on Vultr and find a tutorial on the discord
- older nodes get better rewards
- you must be successful in a few validations to unlock your stake/mining rewards
