i used to anticipate the big sell-off every night, but now I don't think there will be one. we'll just crab at a slight downhill incline for awhile. then in the fall with the second wave, we'll taper further down. it'll be a gentle decline rather than the big selloff

Massive sell off in March was because there was a lot of big boys that were intending to sell anyway because corporate profits were lagging and made everything overbought. As soon as a selloff looked imminent none of them wanted to be last out of the door.
The only place where that exists right now is tech....I think.

The market can definitely do that for extended periods of time. If you want to see some mind numbing snibby market action, look at the S&P chart from December 2014 to November 2016. However, when crab market settles in you get more divergence from the index in specific industries with plenty of good volatility to trade.

Indeed, mega cap tech has some of the best balance sheets flush with cash. They’re going to gobble up all the competition that doesn’t make it through this and they’re going to become more and more integral in everyday life. The only major threat is government intervention like antitrust and privacy shit.

People are paying up for quality, they’re paying up for growth, and they’re paying up for businesses they know they want to own when this is through.

But the stock prices have gone up very quickly and reflect a great deal of that. However, with market mechanics the way they are, they could pull back 5% or they could stay bought up for years.

Ever since I saw Beijing’s airport, I learned first hand how embarrassing and shameful China is. The CCP has such low intelligence that they can’t even handle air travel properly. China is a weak country controlled by an incompetent government. And what does that say about Chinese people? They must be even weaker and less intelligent than their CCP masters. China and the Chinese people are the equivalent of a poor, homeless, jobless, drug addicted bum. China and the Chinese people are so utterly worthless and poor that they can’t even feed themselves, and often starve to death. Chinese dogs have more value than Chinese people and the CCP combined. I am so happy that many Chinese people have died of this virus. I only hope that the CCP continues to slaughter more of their own citizens, because more Chinese death is a positive outcome for everyone.

The thing about tech is that they aren't really that profitable, despite their scaling. Facebook's major source of revenue (90+%) is still advertising. Netflix can only get subscription fees while they get challenged for bandwidth from ISPs and from content from Amazon, Disney, whoever.

I don't know Amazon's specific bylaws but you start becoming someone you can't ignore if you are 20+% shareholder. You'd have to have 240 billion dollars just to get in there. And why would you bother to do that if you had that much money? You'd have to own your own amazon.

Anon... zoom is now the way boomers are doing business, every money manager is going to have clients who want to know why the hell they aren’t investing in zoom because it’s clearly the way of the future.

Honestly, why the fuck is it so much more stable and pleasant to use than anything else? I’ve never had a Skype or FaceTime or anything work as well, and that’s for 2 people, and I’m comparing it with a zoom for a class of 20+

But what if you didn’t like your Apple and we’re worried it would go bad before it could be eaten? You might really want to sell it before it’s worthless. If no one wants to buy it for $2 you might even take $1 for it.

Now we see why the saudis were so desperate to IPO their treasured company. Didn’t they end up just getting their citizens to buy it up?

Industries that are hamstrung by regulatory hurdles, for good or bad reasons, are particularly dangerous investments. Biotech can't actually be sold until it passes through FDA or whatever applicable agency requirements. These are lengthy, and costly, and you may have competitors. Financing is difficult. Your future is uncertain so you can't take out bonds so you have to keep issuing shares, which dilutes the stock price. Then once it is approved you need to find your market and be able to scale. Or find a big biosuggar daddy to effectively buy you out.
The approval process for biotech frequently requires testing involving academic, government, and other agencies. Any one of them can be a source of leaks no matter how innocent to the big investment boys that have contacts in all aspects of the space.
This means that if bioproduct X looks like it will pass or fail stage Y of trials, the big money will swoop in or out before anything close to a press release (or even "rumors") come out.
On /biz/ its a popular pump and dump target because all biotech can sound promising with its sales pitch and penny stocks are attractive to people with little money. A stock at 0.25 that goes to 1 would quadruple your investment, right? But that rarely happens.
Biotech shouldn't be a meme pump and dump, but its just the nature of the whole sector. AVOID
