Doesn't mean much, there is still plenty of people holding CFDs on WTI.

Also, WTI is at 25$. So clearly people are buying into it.

Also. European Corona infected per day is increasing again, showing that ease of restrictions was too soon and hinting at a second wave of the pandemic. If that happens it will reach the highest about 14 days since the ease of restrictions. That ease begun in May 4th. 4+14=18. So in May 18th we might have huge infected numbers showing up again.

Guys, keep an eye on the new daily infected numbers. If that is true, we need to reap the rewards and dumped the stocks fast, no time for divvies. Also, dump your other stock you might have.

18th 19th time frame will be CRUCIAL.

On one hand re-infection is pretty bullish on tankers cause it suggests we won't be opperating at full capacity yet and oil will still be in a glut. On the other a second wave could be the next negative event not priced in causing the next leg down in the market which will wipe everyone out.

If you disagree I'd like to hear any opinions.

>> No.18952034

Most brokers have stopped allowing arbitrage for future contracts since oil market go boom boom, so that should take away some OI right? Wrong. For some reason OI and volume has stayed (roughly) the same... My conspiracy this time? Oil companies need to have these contracts to prevent well shut ins & breakeven, even if there's no storage. Trump said he wanted to rescue energy and store more oil in petroleum reserves. If you're Trump and an oil glut has occured, the libbies are going to blame you for it. So what do you do? Pump the shit out of oil! I doubt he's doing a backroom deal, if he just buys up a lot of the future contracts then he can inflate the price of oil to prevent companies from going under AND say he's doing great politics for the oil sector.

>On the other a second wave could be the next negative event not priced in causing the next leg down in the market which will wipe everyone out.

It was April 20 that oil went negative. Go look at SPX, it went down on the 21.

So I predict that on the 18 we might actually see Oil down plus it's a monday so the new numbers will have been digested by monday.
So SPX drop starts monday at the same time WTI drops to a second bottom.
Tuesday 19th SPX continues drop like it did March 17th PLUS reacts to the WTI drop too like it did 21 April.

If both those things happen, not even the tankers will withstand.

Also, minor event, DHT ex-div date is 18th as well so 19th might have a drop on DHT affect other tankers too.

By not letting oil fall apart they're fucking USO bagholders though. Plus normies don't know about the reverse split and were getting greedy as fuck seeing USO go from 5-20. oil "looks" very bullish to the avg retail investor. But inventory is filling up like crazy; Oil not failing yet is bullish for tankers, just not in the public's optics. Think about it. the more oil keeps getting pumped out the less space there is to store it. Trump cant let oil fail, but oil wells need to run at at least 60% to not get damaged. They go below that and smaller companies start going out of business. Demand just isn't there yet, and if second wave rapes USA (Spanish flu second wave raped harder than first) you know that oil isn't going to reach full demand anytime soon. Okay, so basically the play is crude oil prices staying low and we stay in the oil glut, which basically causes the shipping companies to have to hold the oil in contracts which increases their value when the price of eventually oil goes back up(projected in June)?
So unless oil goes back up sometime this month this is a solid play, even better if the oil situation gets worse.
Also, regardless of it is a decent play I should invest in, I've learned about something really cool today and never realized how much of an impressive feat of engineering these ships were.
They are so advanced they are a viable method for storing oil for long term oil gluts, absolutely fascinating.

Exactly. There's a lot of fundamentals in order that predict a bullish year for tankers, but we've been struggling with the market acting in the opposite direction and that's the primary concern until yesterday. When earnings came out these companies dropped over 20% earlier this week, despite massive profits. We're seeing gains past few days though. Another thing we're concerned with is whether or not we can exit this play before economy rolls over.

>>18953649
Price doesn't matter, demand matters and our argument is that demand won't be able to reach anywhere near supply. But supply literally can't be shut down beyond 60% or oil wells get damaged and go bankrupt, which no country is going to allow.

>>18953716
Almost there, we've been seeing green past 3 days. The string of exceptional quarterlies have bucked the downtrend; Next 2 weeks we see a lot of calls expire, storage filled, june futures. Could blow up this month. More likely next month.

It's simple in the sense that getting tanker stocks means:
>You bet against American oil
>You bet on an oil glut taking longer than June
>You bet on opening up not going as planned
>You don't feel comfortable investing in other stocks right now even though they are mooning no matter the bad news
Which - in my opinion - are logical stances to have if you read into the numbers and not believe all the meme news.

the media (most of it), Donny, oil companies and((analists)) have been positive for weeks now. We have yet to actually see it happen as we are blasted with bad news. Tankers have become a meme in the sense that their viability is fully connected to the oil glut now - which it isn't. No oil glut means tankers are shit. In reality, tankers prosper on the spot market as well where they thrive on volatility (this is where that story came from of that one tanker that refused to unload it's oil because the next day would give a higher price for oil). We don't need full fledged Contango at all.

>I believe oil tanker companies are one of the select industries set to profit and excel in this environment. Oil storage assets are highly valuable if oil remains oversupplied and the contango in futures increases, which incentivizes traders to buy now and store for future sale. This combination drove up tanker rates to extremely high levels in March and April 2020. VLCC rates rocketed to upwards of 200k per day, which is extremely high by historical standards and rivals the circa '05-'08 tanker boom days. Tanker companies have started reported earnings and the results are very good, but the guidance is even better, as the sky-high rates will mostly be earned in the upcoming quarter. DHT reported in Q1 2020 VLCC's operating in the spot market achieved an average rate of $66,400 per day, and thus far in Q2, the average rate is approximately $110,000 per day.

>Last year at this time, VLCC rates were around $30,000 per day. Interestingly enough, many tanker stock prices have barely moved despite the huge upward shift in earnings. For example, Frontline (FRO) is currently valued by the market less than it was a year ago, at $7.70 per share rather than $7.82. It seems the market is either inefficiently pricing these companies or doubting the sustainability of current earnings. For reasons above, I see little reason tankers cannot continue to profit substantially and excel over the intermediate term. There are headlines that tanker rates are "down over 50%", but that is very misleading, as they have only come down from the sky-high levels (that will be reflected in Q2 earnings) and are still above historical averages. Unless VLCC rates crash down to $20,000 or $30,000 a day in the near term, these companies share prices can rise substantially.

They're very good. I've worked for Salmar before, and while work time and pay was better, the general leadership was shitty. For example, the day before new years eve in 2018, i had to (admittedly "voluntarily") pull off a 20 hour day in extreme storm. But unlike land jobs, i was well compensated and it was worth the risk.

Marine Harvest at least has a strick "if a worker can't work that day, then he can't work that day", and never have i felt pushed to say yes for extra work (again, compensated well, for example, a sunday night job on your time off will give you 400% overtime if you agree)
That said, while one would think you mainly deal with raising fishes, i had a lot of strange experiences. For instance this picture. We found an abandoned ship drifting, no registered call sign, no sign of any crew ever having lived on this ship yet it was full of cargo. No reports of any company missing a cargo deliverance either. But obviously we had to tow it to the docks. Shit like that will puzzle you unto the grave.

To entertain you only lightly, because of the simple fact that oil demand will be lower. In opened areas, traffic is still well below normal. Social distancing is fundamentally changing many businesses, making experiencing them less pleasurable and profitable and lowering capacity. The economy opening back up doesn't mean much because social distancing and general fear is holding people back by regulation and now fear of lawsuits. Combine this with the death of certain businesses and transition of some work to home services also lowers demand for oil. Furthermore the oil crisis started prior to corona and lockdowns, this and the oil war has only accelerated what was a "normal" level of crisis to cataclysmic levels. Even IF demand returned to normal for oil, then production would have to lower so demand overtakes supply. Unfortunately for oil, production cuts are not fully working, many are being ignored, the rates of shutting down operations are overall not lowering as expected and those who are complying are trying to do a bit more as they can meaning they are basically fearing for their lives. Trump can tweet about oil and demand all he wants, but oil usage is not something he can alter, only speculative price through sentiment. And when futures rollover, sentiment disappears and you are only left with actual revealed price. Which we saw April perform. Furthermore, due to all supply issues even IF demand overtook supply in the coming months we would still have such a monster backlog that oil prices will remain volatile and low enough for years which makes tankers extraordinary (recently consensus seems to be don't expect recovery for oil to "return to normal" until 2022 at earliest).

Even if oil tankers transport and don't park full time after we start seeing improvement, the backlog of supply ensures tons of transportation and holding as the market continually adjusts itself. Tankers will thrive.

I never finished highschool even (our equalence past the mandatory 10 years) and never been in a boat before. Now i can control cranes and drive medium ships (as well as do maintenance on them) in challenging waters without issue since when i started in the industry, it was still "learning on the job" and non-regulated. I know that 80% of jobs now require a certain high school path, as well as certifications to use cranes, ships etc. But Norway is on the forefront of this compared to salmon industries elsewhere so i'm sure you can find a "learning on the job" job, seeing as nobody but Norway has really focused on this industry.
Simply find the local sea farms and apply to them i guess? Never thought i'd get a job at sea either but here i am 5 years later before regulations here changed.

In case you're actually not a goldman shill.

Don't believe the news that tells you the economy just opens up. We're in a bad spot right now and a ton of small businesses are going to shut down. A LOT of jobs are going to be gone. And this IS NOT THE END OF THE RECESSION. Even if we retrace 100% and head for ATH we're still fucked sometime later this year. This isn't recovery, this is a fucking melt-up. You don't go through recession in 4 months retard. And if you think we're only going through recession cause of covid you're fucked. because we never truly re-balanced after 08;

we kicked the can down the road to 2020 by: inflating the largest corporate debt bubble ever, debt which they used to buyback stocks. Here's a fun stat. On March 2020, 1/6 of ALL publically traded US companies did not profit enough to cover the INTEREST on their debt. They survived due to ATL interest rate environments effectively zombiefying the economy. The only AAA firms in January are MSFT and JJ. Trump's tax cuts meant to stimulate the economy just lead to more share buybacks, inflating the shit out of the index. (Buybacks ATH in 2019; money all used to pad CEO pockets but not to pay down debt, or do MnA or RnD, or put in the war chest for RECESSION)

This inflated the equity bubble, which was already overinflated due to Boomer pensions and the passive investing phenomenon. Speaking of Boomers, they're all retiring within the next few years, so their spending is all winding down, while the next generations are BROKE. Millenials have no money, and a HUGE portion of them are stuck in another fucking bubble; The student Debt bubble. There's no money in the economy, and the FED's recent actions have distributed even MORE wealth to the top echelons of the economy; By allowing them access to the free money first, the Cantilon effect allows them to spend the extra money before inflation hits; Inflation, AKA devalueing of everybody's savings/wages. There's NO MONEY 1/2

And then there;s the problem of Pensions in the US, which are a PONZI SCHEME. The money being paid is going directly to the largest wave of retirees ever. There is no fund. It's bankrupt, and won't be there by the time you retire. It takes an avg. 50000 USD per person per year to support it; 50% of boomers have no savings, and are living off your money that couldve been spent in the economy. Their lifespans are also getting longer, so you're on the hook for more years, their 401Ks got raped in 08 so they probably didn't invest back in as much as they should've, (and got raped in 2020 too). check out pic.

All this is JUST KICKING OFF. Your economy isn't going to look good anons. To loop this back to oil; Trump can't and has said he won't let oil fail, but oil needs to pump at 60% capacity to not damage the wells or cap the wells which would bankrupt many companies. So, our economy is shit, Covid magnified this, less and less spending everyday in the micro and macro, oil is going to get bailed out one way or the other, oil will keep pumping, tankers in the short and medium term gonna have a lot of business as economy will not recover like you predict. And tankers benefit from low price fuel too. 2/2
