All Microsoft has to do is show that their new Xbox can be used as a general computing platform and can be paired with a stripped down consumer grade hololens.

The hololens 2 is a standalone device and costs $3500.
Why so expensive?
The computing power, cooling, power, etc is all self contained. You pay a premium for the miniaturization.

A hololens addon to Xbox would be powered via the Xbox and use it for computing. Really just a fancy display.

This gives capabilities like HUD displays when playing FPS games.

if they pull out a headset during tomorrows XBox event.

You WILL CUM if you have stocks.

How will AR be used for gaming?

Imagine the use the TV screen for a majority of the action but on your hololens is the HUD.
To reload your weapon, you actually look down and use your hands and gesture controller to reload your gun.

Halo next gen
Minecraft AR
Age of Empires 4
Etc

Desktop/productivity applications.

Instead of buying 2-3 monitors that consume desk space.
A single hololens could be plugged directly into computer and used as a 360 degree monitor/window space while still being able to see whats around you (not a full VR headset).

This is how Microsoft plans on keeping Operating System marketshare.

The software required to virtualize the computing experience into an AR headset.

Something Mac and Chromebooks dont support and would be YEARS behind.

Once again....3.5k hololens 2 is self contained.
However, power its energy usage and computing power by external source (computer) and the cost goes down dramatically.

Package it with the XBox....and Microsoft makes billions.

No. Just a techfag who has been following AR and VR since oculus rift dev kit.

Used to nigger rig VR goldeneye on N64 using 2 TVs and splitscreen multiplayer just to see what maps looked like with "depth".

Microsoft is positioned to take AR mainstream.
Hololens was a test.

Hololens 2 (Microsoft/Microvision) will be primary AR platform.
PSVR2 (Sony) will dominate the VR space.

/biz/ when will you learn?
It's obviously just smoke, lidar isn't anything new, "revolutionary laser beam scanning" is used in dust robots ffs, I thought you were smarter than this...
It might pump again, but don't expect any serious product from a company so eager to sell snake oil. There is a reason desk projectors aren't a thing: they offer nothing more than what a tablet can provide... they only have drawbacks.

Its not what they built.

Its the patents they hold.

China is Intellectual property hell and nothing that comes out of there will ever make it mainstream here.

Being a specialist in this business for >20 years and holding +500 cockblocking patents makes them valuable.

Valuable enough that a buyout is basically buying a blackbox of AR, projection, and display tech.
Something a company trying to speed up development would do (i.e Microsoft)

Like I said.

The +500 patents they hold are their strengths.
They are basically a research lab that create new processes and tech.

Any company stepping into VR and AR market has to navigate around their literal minefield of patents.

These patents take on average 4 years to grant.
So companies trying to get into VR/AR and miniturized display has to get through them first.

Buyout would instantly give any buying company a treasurchest of patents and technology to cockblock their competitors.

They cant just put what they make on their website. Its far beyond normies.

I work a software/tech company myself. The websites and marketing is often dumbed down to the point of hilarity.

Companies that need their tech know where to look because they are looking at patents.
Their website isnt marketed towards normies.
