DHT earnings tomorrow are almost certain to be extremely positive because they've been pushing forward the earnings date repeatedly. If so, every single tanker stock will rocket a little. Maybe reach 52-week high or so. After next quarter's earnings, it might head toward ATH. I think it's impossible that it doesn't 2x, extremely fucking unlikely that it doesn't 4x, not very likely that it doesn't 10x. Beyond that, there are too many variables at play, but I truly believe that anywhere from 90% of ATH to 110% of ATH is completely possible. The reasoning is that previous price records were caused by oil surplus nowhere near as high as the ones we're seeing now.
Aviation drives a whole 8% of oil demand on its own, and I don't see every air transport business being bailed out. Some are already filing bankruptcy and I believe many more will follow.
Road transport will take a while to come back still, causing more accumulation.
All forms of transportation combined account for about 70% of oil demand. Even if it were to restart at full capacity right this instant, this still wouldn't help the active supply already needing storage. The nature of tanker contracts means other storages will be freed up first.
This wasn't a thing in the last oil surpluses historically.
Meanwhile OPEC keep fucking with US even with the laughable cuts in place further fucking up demand and pricing. Saudi tankers are still on their way to the US too.
Even if everything started back as planned right this instant, I still wouldn't sell tankers until Q4 and I would still bet on >10x. Moreover, as restarts remain delayed, shit's gonna be even more fucked up. Reminder also that if saudi oil is cheaper than american or canadian oil, nobody's buying and therefore nobody's freeing supply of canadian and american oil.

>Day/swing traders: how long did it take you to make profit? I keep reading first timers invariably fuck up or lose money.
I made a bunch of money immediately. Doubled my portfolio within a month. I developed some very bad habits and lost all of that profit and then some in the following months. Your experience will vary. Recommend doing TA mainly with indicators; some kind of moving average oscillator, some kind of thing that accounts for volume, and some kind of moving average on the chart that allows you to quickly determine the trend at a glance. It's very important not to over complicate TA. The simplest solution is nearly always the best and most reliable.

>Also, is a supercomputer a must if wanting to day trade?
Nope. I'm not a day trader though. The day trading strats I have seen are not complicated.

I think its also almost guaranteed you will get burned really bad at some point. That will humble your early gains and make you more focused on setting %gain/loss targets to remove emotional aspects. Feeling like you didn't let winners run will give you heartache. But having losers drag you into the abyss is going to be a gut punch.

> Reading books from this century
Try A Modest Proposal, it's a satirical essay about eating the poors babies as a solution to the economic woes of the time. It's 100% /biz approved and I have no doubt Johnathan Swift would be an anon here. Here's one of my favorite passages, it's about critics who dare offer alternatives to his solution of eating babies. Keep in mind, this was written in 1729.
> Therefore let no man talk to me of other expedients: Of taxing our absentees at five shillings a pound: Of using neither clothes, nor household furniture, except what is of our own growth and manufacture: Of utterly rejecting the materials and instruments that promote foreign luxury: Of curing the expensiveness of pride, vanity, idleness, and gaming in our women: Of introducing a vein of parsimony, prudence and temperance: Of learning to love our country, wherein we differ even from Laplanders, and the inhabitants of Topinamboo: Of quitting our animosities and factions, nor acting any longer like the Jews, who were murdering one another at the very moment their city was taken: Of being a little cautious not to sell our country and consciences for nothing: Of teaching landlords to have at least one degree of mercy towards their tenants. Lastly, of putting a spirit of honesty, industry, and skill into our shop-keepers, who, if a resolution could now be taken to buy only our native goods, would immediately unite to cheat and exact upon us in the price, the measure, and the goodness, nor could ever yet be brought to make one fair proposal of just dealing, though often and earnestly invited to it. Therefore I repeat, let no man talk to me of these and the like expedients, 'till he hath at least some glympse of hope, that there will ever be some hearty and sincere attempt to put them into practice.

When you start you need to force discipline on yourself. You will almost certainly do better in practice than with real money because having actual risk will color your decision making: make all trades require a higher threshold for greed (and risk) before you pull the trigger.
I'd also set a max cap of money you will put into the market and only use half of that, dipping into the other half for amazing plays you see pop out in a blue moon. Liquidity is your friend.

My issue is that the market does what ever the fuck it wants even if it doesn't make sense.

For example I thought some oil positions were going to get the trump pump and dump. I did call the pump and sold on the trump pump but the pump didn't stop and then when I bought back in that when the pump stopped and I got burned.

With RTX for all I know Thursday earnings are going to be a shitshow and it may drop big or in fact it may drop a small amount. I don't know what the fair price for this stock is but I assume holding it at 60 is still going to be a big discount in a year or two.

Plus we don't know if we go to war with someone all of the sudden or trump pumps it up.
Also am bag holding 40 shares of OKE at avg of 23 bucks and don't know if natural gas is safe now that oil is doing its crab thing.

>My issue is that the market does what ever the fuck it wants even if it doesn't make sense.
the market has always done this. if the market was completely rational, it would be a lot harder to make money. you wouldnt be able to buy undervalued assets or short overvalued assets.

Nah, I don't think it will. But you're right. I should be taking advantage of stop losses. Are there any instances where its beneficial to hang on to a stock while its going down, or is it better to just catch it on the way up? I dunno if this even applies with the cheap stocks I'm buying.

I personally trade short, mostly. Besides my lottery holds and my divy stocks, everything is enter exit within a few days. That doesn't mean that I don't buy back in to certain tickets after exiting them. This banks the profit and allows for an opportunity to grab it at a better price, even when looking at it short term. Why would you hold something that is losing its value/not making money daily for you. Don't be a bag holder, don't become attached to the ticket. Don't think optimistically. Cut your loses and get out.

That's why it's important to time the entry. Get in on the upswing and your stop loss can be set at a point that is still a profit for you, even if it gets triggered.

They even do that to for their military equipment. Like when borrowed their Russian "allies" designs by reverse engineering a couple of Ukrainian owned models.

jokes aside 20%-25% unemployment basically means some 30-40 million people won't be able to find jobs for at least 2-3 years. maybe 50 years. how is that going to work? massive breadlines? high crime, violence, public unrest? literally 1930's? but it is 2020. so surely there will be some differences. otoh, is this the end of the suburbia as a concept? a massive flight back to the cities closer to the food kitchens?

But the only sectors I trust right now are the "safe" plays in the corona-world:
Consumer Staples
Healthcare

I also like gaming (NTDOY), large cap with good balance sheets (JNJ, MSFT), and a little bit of semiconductors (5G and datacenters and gaming: AMD, NVDA, AMAT, MRVL)
