We took some furniture, books and other stuff from old place when moving to new one, and cash was there. We pretty much lived with that and absolutely forgot about it, that's why surprise money went to gold to continue "store that value".

Where I live we had like 4 different currencies in last 30 years so people here are used to that paper money changes from time to time and you'd better not to rely on it too much.

I have 120 ounces of silver I smelted back just at the end of highschool when I was getting serious with prospecting / mining and about 15 ounces of smelted gold at the moment. I had 30 this spring, but i converted half to cash to help pay for this years diamond drill program on my hard rock silver gold claim. I think 10 oz is reasonable to buy a modest house. That's assuming gold gets close to $20k/oz, which I don't think is unrealistic if you look at the dow gold ratio. It's hit close to 1 twice, Once in 1929 and the other time in 1980. A lot of people think it will even go below 1.

10 oz gold at $20k/oz means 200,000 dollars. Housing market is going to crash to, so prices will come down, so yes, I think it's completely realistic to be able to buy a house within the next 5 years for 10 oz of gold.

I don't think the other currencies are any more credible than the USD and there's not enough demand for them. The basket of relatively hard currencies left would be the Euro/Canada Dollar/Australia Dollar/Swiss Franc/British Pound/Singapore Dollar/Swedish, Norweigian and Danish Kroner.

Yeah I’m not super familiar with the company structure but yeah I’ve heard of those names. Those are indeed gold mining companies. GDX owns those and other companies - so when you buy one share of GDX you own a sliver of Newmont, Barrick, etc. so you’re basically buying a basket of mining stocks. That should in theory give you similar returns with lower risk (say if Newmont goes bankrupt for unrelated reasons GDX will take a hit but won’t be worthless like if you just bought Newmont itself. there's a huge disconnect right now between spot and physical premiums. so you can't really use one to talk about the other. miners, mints and retail dealers also need to make a profit so absolutely no one is going to sell you at spot or near spot, unless they have a new buyer promo in which case it's generic bars anyway and that is their "loss leader" to get you to make an account and buy more later on. it worked with me and that's how i started buying from jmb when they offered beautiful sunshine mint eagle rounds as their "buy at spot". now that deal has evaporated since sunshine mints are seen as far more desirable.

spot gold and silver will tank again like in march but only if there's a massive tank in overall stawk markets. but it's tricky because further news about mine or mint closures is also going to mean lower supply and higher premiums. they're called premiums for a reason. the makers of these beautiful bars and coins also need to earn a living.
