Now is not the time to pick up div stocks when you can grow your money with thousands of other options faster. I'd argue that buying corporate bonds right now would give better "guaranteed divvys".
When the market settles down...whenever that is you could put your non divvy stock play gains into divvy stocks. But really, the divvies get sacked by taxes anyway and will be outperformed by growth stocks.
Divvy stocks exist for passive retirement accounts and nothing else. The market simply gains so much more over inflation to make that a dumb passive play.

This is a strategy called "dividend capture". Some people do exactly that. The problem is that stock value is adjusted to account for dividend payout, so you have to wait a bit for it to recover. The trick is that some stocks recover extremely fast from dividend dips, so if you know what you're doing you can have a different stock every day of the year to capture into.

>> No.18812787

>>18812764
You typically have to hold the stock at least a week before the dividend payout day. People still do it but its a lot riskier than you realize for minimal gain.

Could someone please explain how to buy bonds? I did some research, but wanted to clarify a few things. So the price is the percentage of the face value? Lets say for simplicity 150 would mean +50%? And if the yield at maturity at the face value is 10% then if you buy at 150 and hold to maturity your effective yield is 50% less, so 5%? Does the coupon rate matter in this case?

Not all that much. Making that kind of software is extremely technically complicated so you need to hire a few experts but any big name company could theoretically do it. They seem to feel it's not where the money is and at the same time, big companies have this tendency to punish overperforming and reward laziness. For example, if a team makes a perfect zoom clone and then improves upon it, they get a bonus and then they get to stay where they are for the rest of time, no promotion or salary rises. They're dead in the workplace. On the other hand if they produce buggy crapware that's just good enough to let retards fall for it but not good enough for anyone to switch to it, they get a raise and a bonus everytime they introduce, and then fix, a single bug.
Smaller companies are a lot more agile in that regard, it's literally the exact opposite in that sense (barring office politics). Hence, zoom gets to produce the zoom software while microsoft has the absolute joke that is nuskype.

The HY corporate bond market I think actually reflects the real sentiment about the economy, not the stock market. And its actually quite depressing what names are on some of these. Macy's, JCP, Hertz, RCL, CCL in addition to literally all the small oil and shale guys.
I am mainly looking at this because Tupperware doesn't have huge rent expenses like a retail store chain and (should) be relatively ambivalent about the state of the economy for demand.

I am pretty sure no blue chip stock dived more than 50% of its worth. Like one of the few holds I have is USFD and if there is a "return to normal" they are one of the few firms that is most likely to rebound even from supply chain disruptions. And if it doesn't then it means things are really fucked anyway.
I've already doubled what I put into it. And it might double again very soon. I fully intend to put that money into blue chips or longer holds later.
I think the one exception is oil. I do think there is a good thesis there with some of the big oil companies but I do think the hold there is going to be months if not a year or more. Same with airlines.

If you're rich enough that you are already planning for retirement in the short term (say, 5 years), you should be in cash right now. Wait until corona-chan is completely over and then get into safe dividends, which will be around 5-6%. You should have enough money that 5-6% invest-and-forget should net you enough to live your target lifestyle. If that's not good enough for you, your tactic won't work either. You are too young to retire via age, so you don't have an excuse that you're too poor to afford to retire but you're near retirement age.
If you are not rich enough to retire and you're at your age, you should invest in growth stocks (aggressive, paradoxically safer) or high-yield beaten down dividend stock (less aggressive, not as safe as most dividend stocks will either cut their dividends for a while or will die), assuming you're not into actual trading. If you are into trading, you're in the best time you'll ever get to actively trade and make tons of money this year. Don't worry about the stock except for the implied price movement (e.g. higher chance of being assigned otm on a written option, more stable prices on dividend stocks, dividend-related price movements...)

AMD trying to compete with Intel is like any Chinese electric car company trying to compete with Tesla. It's just not in the same league. Sure, it may win over certain customers with aggressive marketing, but how long can that growth last?

AMD stock is worth $8 and not one penny more. This isn't a company that will consistently grow year over year. It's one that will explode due to novelty at first, and then pitter out as it becomes harder and harder to acquire additional market share. They're playing checkers, Intel's playing chess.

Buy quality stable stock at a discount. Shit like banks (but not quite yet because it's not clear they'll be fine with all the mortgages), utilities (they also tend to have great yields), REITs (likewise), and royalty funds for large food chains. With another part of your budget, go with solid growth stocks like msft, amzn, etc. However they're currently overpriced so wait for the correction assuming it goes down far enough. Invest the growth stocks back into the divvy stocks as you age. 20/80 is good if you're very young, but by 10 years to retirement it should be about 80/20 or 90/10.

Federal Long Term Capital Gains plus State Capital Gains (if your state even has any) - not regular income, no Social Security, no Medicare and you get a standard deduction plus you can use tax writeoffs. Explain how your IRA or 401k is better please.

Because that's the default mode of operation of the options authority: they auto-liquidate if it's ITM but not before. Some people properly check their theta, others don't. The primary purpose of options is hedging, and for this you really do only want to exercise automatically: either it's worthless and you didn't lose the value of the stock and then some, or it's not worthless and you got the stock at a superior price, you weren't trying to profit so much as preventing risk on a fixed timespan. Dips also don't necessarily mean anything, so panic exercising WILL also fuck you up. Finally, some exchanges have steep exercise costs (like $25+).

Welcome to the world that many of us have been dreading for some time. The bubble was bound to burst, and we kept kicking the can down the road, enjoying it while we could. If it doesn't finish popping this time, who knows what the next crisis might be like. By rights, it should be quite painful now. -37% should be a contraction in comparison.

You probably watched it when you were too young to get the original ending. The plot makes no sense, but the themes are being addressed and resolved in a really beautiful way. I saw it for the first time when I was 24 and absolutely loved it.

It has to do with lending money between banks and storing money as a bank. Also trading securities for other securities.
For a bank a 0% Bund is a way to pretend to invest money, while actually just storing it in a safe place.
>ASUKA BEST GIRL
Never watched it actually.
>>18814510
They should allow it.
Even a 100$ cash account should be able to write covered calls and cash covered puts since no margin is involved.

That said, writing options can make you responsible to infinite losses. So know what you are doing.

In what way? I've always treated EoE as the events that unfolded prior to, during, and after instrumentality, a complete picture, if you will. On the other hand, the TV ending presents solely the instrumentality reasoning process that Anno, I mean Shinji, went through to solve his personal issues. They always seemed complementary.

>> No.18814617

>>18814589
The plot of Eva is batshit insane anyways with more holes than I can count. What's going on in Shinji's head is a lot more interesting and thematically relevant than what literally happens.

It’s an ego thing. People want to be BIG WINNERS and make the BIG PLAYS by speculating on growth stocks. Reality is that there is no real empirical correlation with a company paying a dividend and it’s growth potential. Even if there was, it gets made up in the compounding effect of DRIP which equity fags always conveniently ignore.

>b-but it’s no different than selling a share for income

Bullshit, you just discharged the underlying asset by doing that. Guess what? Can’t sell covered calls on stock you don’t own. More saliently, I can take the same retarded logic that growth tards use and say that if you are speculating on growth there is no point in buying shares at all, you should be buying calls instead.
