Trade with a longer time horizon so you can go days without checking price movements. Limit your losses with stops so you know the maximum amount you can lose on a trade, and balance it with your return average. Overcoming your psychology is the hardest thing to do in trading. Put your orders in at the end of the day so you aren't wasting time looking at the pips.

>> No.18786531

I have been down 70%+ of my initial investment and held until recovery. Once you do that you feel nothing at drops of 5%, 10%, or 20%. I think doing that has made me a more emotionless trader and to also realize that you should have an idea of what price you want to get out at for a profit or you are willing to accept at a lose. It also helps to never put in money that you would need for immediate expenses.

Its all about time in the market. Never use leverage above x3. If you need to use more leverage then you don't have enough to trade with. Impossible to be liquidated so you can just go AFK and have some sell orders at 5% 10% 15% etc increase. Most people try making tons of profitable trades a day and it turns into an addiction that always ends in disaster. Patience and think "I could lose everything if I take any more risk" instead of "damn only did x3 leverage if I did x20 I would have made so much!"

Turned $3,500 into half a mil in paper gains, cashed out about $20,000 ... watched the rest go back down to about $40,000.

Once you watch your portfolio swing positive then negative tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars in a matter of minutes a few times you tend to get numbed to the stress of trading. The first time my portfolio swung -$30,000 in a matter of hours I felt physically sick... now I just don't give a shit.

Well I think of it like this. If I had 30,000 saved right now I would bet $8800 (current price of btc) that bitcoin will go above 50k at some point. I also wouldn't touch the stock market right now because of coronavirus, but if I had to I would invest in stuff like AMD/intel/nvidia, all stuff that I could sleep on and randomly sell one year for a huge profit. The biggest thing is time in the market, your goal is to sell for more than you bought. Too many people get caught up in making more than what others are claiming to make.

I am only invested in bitcoin and have been for years. I started in 2014, I DCA when the price is below 10,000 and have my sell orders at 15k 16k 17k etc. I only use bitcoin and USD, I still keep 75% of my funds as USD. I don't bother with stocks because I don't need any more income unless it is risk free. Risk management is huge. Holding while btc crabs for months and selling for a profit is how it should be done but most people are way too impatient and will either panic sell if it drops (when they should be buying the dips) or getting rekt because they tried using leverage. If my bitcoins magically disappeared I would still have 75% of my portfolio. I don't have any losses because all I do is hold, buy dips, and sell above 10k.
