Here is what the market somehow fails to see- if Shell is slashing their dividend that means they have done a lot of research on the global economy. The oil industry is connected to every industry around the world, so they have a lot of data on oil consumption in different industries and countries.

If they are slashing the dividend that means they are not seeing a recovery as soon as all those forecasters are predicting. If they were seeing a recovery in the next 2-3 quarters they would have kept the dividend.

At this point I can only believe in action and every action points towards a long-lasting recession. Companies cutting jobs and expenses, reducing salaries, slashing capex etc. etc. I can believe those actions much more than I can believe big bank analysts, forecasters and credit agencies. It only shows me how disconnected wall street is to main street.

Yes and no. For big companies like IBM at their prime, they can definitely 100% survive 10 years, and most likely up to 40 years. They might zombie (IBM is such a case) but they will survive and their stock will keep going up.
For young companies, yes, this is trickier to predict.
For older companies, the chance of a death event is increasingly likely, especially in fields like tech.
However, in any case, just because you invest on a decade timeframe doesn't mean you should put your money in there and never reassess.
Additionally there are other options that are even safer (but also have less return) than individual stocks: you can buy an ETF, or manually select holdings from an ETF and rebalance every year. This will provide limited exposure to any single component, making you immune to all but an entire field shutting down.

However, when they do this they get a black market on their permanent record, and typically an analyst downgrade, which will limit the stonk for years.
