Ontario, which area of Ontario? I only ask this because ontario has a disgusting amount of gold and silver hard rock mines. Some of the richest mines in Canada are located there. If you want to look for solid native silver ore go research the town of Cobalt and its mineral district.

I would suggest doing some panning but calling around with some geo mates over there working for the Red Lake Mine say theres basically 0 placer, so best to look for ore instead.

from my understanding, your only allowed a shovel and pan in a national forest, but i could be wrong, do some digging on those regulations.

You wont find much for panning as waters not always easy to locate, but here are a few areas for you to try

>San Francisco River has good visible gold flakes and nuggets often found in oxidized gravel beds 50-60 ft above the current run of the river.
>Santa Maria River, the Mammoth or Hubbard hard rock mines are nearby and their ores likely feed placers in this river. Any number of unnamed gulches or river gravel banks could contain good gold.

I would suggest using metal detectors and similar tools in the dry washes of these rivers or steams, some major nuggets have been discovered that way on the San Fransisco river for example.

Holding 1000 shares of SLV through my ROTH. When should I sell?

>> No.18771352

>>18771052
I've ordered quite a bit of PMs from APMEX over the years and I seem to recall that they use all of the major couriers: USPS, UPS, and FedEx. You don't have to worry. They will ship using a method where you can track the shipment and it will require signature release. They know that if you haven't signed for it, they or the courier are on the hook.

>> No.18771386

>>18771279
Premiums will fall as supply and demand match up. Of course, it's entirely possible that the spot price of silver could be higher, thus eliminating any benefit from a reduced premium, or lower. If you don't require physical possession of silver, you can buy PSLV, CEF, or some of the companies that hold vaulted silver for you (BullionVault).

>> No.18771387

>>18771052
I pretty much only us Apmex at this point and have never had any problems with them. However be careful with both the usps and ups, if your package is being sent signature required be prepared for the delivery guy just to throw the package on your front steps even if you aren't there to sign for it. I have had several multi thousand dollar precious metal shipments that I was supposed to have to sign for just left on the porch by the delivery guy if i wasn't there to sign. This isn't Apmex's fault of course, the usps and ups just dont care about you or doing their job is all. Be ready for the possibility of having to get to your stuff before the porch pirates do if your delivery guy is lazy.

In my experience Apmex is good though.

I parked it in chainlink and I ended up in profit. And I also understand that I'm not a daytrader and I never will be. Gold value is blown up like Diamonds. Truth or false?

>> No.18774787

>>18774703
False. If you buy a diamond and then immediately try to sell it, you'll be lucky to get even 50% of your purchase price unless you're going through the wholesale market. You will not have that problem with gold. The difference between your buy and sell price, assuming no movement on the gold price itself in the futures markets, will be approximately 6% in normal times. There is no way you will lose 50% or more if you buy and then immediately sell gold.

One final thing: gold is has a lot of properties of money while diamonds do not. Durability, divisibility, rarity, and fungibility are properties of gold but not any gemstone.

It's mainly a hedge against inflation. Many believe the entire US monetary system is fraudulent because a private banking cartel was given the authority to print legal tender (the Fed) which is blatantly unconstitutional, and they have abused it to the point where the entire monetary supply has doubled since 2008. In the event that this leads to hyperinflation any savings you have in dollars would be rendered worthless, so having a stack of PM with real intrinsic value is a good hedge against that possibility

For the short term ya, silver-dime-mother-daughter-blowjobs for the smart ones.
Long term it is value protection or even leveraging an overvalue in one asset into an undervalued asset, then vice versa sometime later to exponentially grow value.
An example would be hyper-valued gold into post-bubble real-estate, then back to gold again when the reverse happens. you gust grew your value by flipping around consciously.

Skeptics are actually correct that precious metals don’t earn money, but that’s not the point. They have two main uses:

1) As a hedge against catastrophic failure of the monetary system. People who save in metals for this reason only usually limit their holdings to around 10% of their portfolio because in the event of this happening you will need a surprisingly small stack to make it.

2) as a place to park savings and ensure they aren’t inflated away over the decades. Arguably this is actually even more important if you are a poorfag.

This is why personally I don’t even listen to killjoys who insist you have to buy big bars and shitty generics.

Doing that would kill the fun and discourage me from stacking so if I actually did this I’d end up stacking less.

A good way to not go crazy though is to buy A) relatively affordable antique coins that seem likely to gain collectors value and B) coins that are affordable but still nice and give you that collectors’ kick like Canadian maples and philharmonics, for example. They still look great and have only a slight premium over spot PLUS demand for them is higher and hence other people are more likely to want to buy them from you over generic rounds because they’re trusted and don’t look like shit.

For me at least, despite the premium meme I end up saving more value than I do when I buy other bullshit so on the whole it’s making me richer than I used to be.

Now you get it. Consider the following, understanding that up until 1965, all coins larger than 10¢ were 90% silver in the US...

A freshly-minted dime bought a gallon of milk or a dozen eggs in 1964. Price in USD: 10¢.

Today, a 1964-dated dime still buys a gallon of milk or a dozen eggs. Price in USD: $1.09.

Only difference between those two exchanges is that you'd have to sell the silver dime for fiat before trading the fiat for the goods in 2020, vs. just taking the dime to the store and giving it to the cashier like you could in 1964.

Same coin buys the same thing, 56 years apart. If that doesn't show you PMs are a store of value, what will?

You mean the people who held gold illegally, and risked federal jail time and 500k+ fines? Are you really willing to do that? Do you even own your gold? Or do you own a note? You can because gold is a very dense metal with a density of 19.3 g/cm^3. A shoebox has dimensions of approximately 12" x 8" x 5" = 30 cm x 20 cm x 12.5 cm. If we multiply everything out we get:

30 cm x 20 cm x 12.5 cm x 19.3 g/cm^3 = 144,750 g = 144.75 kg

144.75 kg ~= 318.45 lbs

Get a slightly thicker shoebox and it will easily hold 370 lbs of gold.

1 lb * 1 kg/2.2 lb * 1,000 g/kg * 1 ozt/31.1 g = 14.615 ozt

One avoirdupois pound of gold is thus 14.615 ozt * $1,700/ozt = $24,856.54

Proof coins are coins that are typically minted using highly polished planchets and the dies are not used to mint too many coins before being replaced to ensure that the struck images are sharp.

The designation "proof" comes from past practice where before a new coin was minted en masse for circulation, a few proofs (samples) were minted to be inspected by the appropriate monetary authorities. The inspection looked for errors and general quality. Passing the inspection meant the coin was ready for circulation; failing inspection meant new dies and another proof process.

18784250

>>18783907
On a relatively recent historical basis, platinum is indeed cheap and probably should be bought, especially if you have a lot of capital to invest and are willing to take a little more risk. Platinum would have to roughly quadruple to get to its more recent relative price to gold. Depending on what ratio of silver to gold you use--50:1 or 20:1--silver would have to double or quintuple to reach its "appropriate" ratio to gold.

You do have to recognize, though, that platinum, like silver, is also an industrial metal which means its price will be heavily affected by its industrial uses. In the case of platinum, one of the primary industries that use platinum are catalytic converters for diesel engines. After the diesel engine scandal in Europe, industrial demand for platinum has dropped and that's one of the reasons for its depressed price. It's possible that in light of the extremely high prices for palladium that manufacturers for automobiles that use an ICE will replace the palladium in their catalytic converters for platinum.

However, that will take time and we are in the throes of a global depression which will very severely curtail automobile sales.

If you're taking physical possession of your precious metals, it can't hurt to buy a bit of platinum. Platinum seems to costs more to store in a vault than gold so that's something to consider if you're keeping your platinum in a vault. Of course, depending on what you believe the "proper" ratio of gold:silver should be, you might conclude that silver is a better bargain than platinum.

One final note: Marc Faber, who has over his career been a pretty successful investor, is of the opinion that platinum is cheap. I agree with his opinion and have bought platinum over the past two or so years but have yet to see any real profits. My purchase prices were $1,000/ozt, $800/ozt, and $675/ozt. When it touched $625/ozt, I was too frightened and sickened to buy any more.

No purely fiat currency has ever stood the time. It is almost certain that the US dollar is going to lose its reserve status and suffer tremendous loss of purchasing power. The question that no one knows, though, is when that will occur. However, in light of the more and more outrageous actions by the central bank, we are surely in the end game. Precious metals will protect your purchasing power if the game ends in your lifetime, which is highly possible. I don't have the chart with me anymore but the history of reserve currencies shows that they don't even last 100 years before a new power takes over. In the case of a purely fiat currency being a reserve currency, we are already in uncharted territory.

It preserves your buying power or enables extra buying power through the years. So for example in 1974 an Oz of gold cost $184. That same Oz of gold is now worth around $1700 dollars. Had you saved that $184 in fiat, it would still be only $184 but the purchasing power would be greatly reduced from inflation from 1974-2020. Same goes for silver, although it's more volatile. In 1964 a silver quarter could have purchased a gallon of gas. That same silver quarter can still purchase a gallon of gas, plus some. Had you been issued a cheap bi metal quarter in 1964, it would still be worth only .25, except that fiat quarter can no longer purchase a gallon of gas.
>>18784527
No problem. Fiat is debt based. Meaning just to print the money they are guaranteeing you pay interest through taxation, on the currency being printed now. It's like a means of monetary serfdom, and the dollar they're giving you constantly loses purchasing power through the years

Depending on how wealthy you are, might want want to increase the amount of cash you hold because gold and silver could go down and stay there for a few months or years. I've got about 25% of my net worth in cash, 30% in precious metals, 5% in long Treasury bonds, 25% in private equity, with the remainder in relatively boring equities that pay dividends.

I was almost 85% in equities and maybe 5% in precious metals in 2008 when the crash came. I was well aware that the housing bubble would crash and wipe out the banking system so I picked stocks that avoided those sectors I thought would fail. However, I still suffered a fairly significant drawdown and the relatively small cash position I had made it such that I had no dry powder to buy near the bottom.

My cash position was large enough that I had a few years living expenses in the event I lost my job, which I eventually did.

My point is, cash totally sucks especially in this environment but you still have to have enough to cover expenses for about a year or so in the event you lose your job. The bills don't just go away and you don't want to be in a position where you might be forced to sell at a bottom to raise cash for expenses.

PM tickles that autism for me and helps me spend money and save it at the same time. Like >>18780477 said there's a lot of guys who enjoy shaming stacks but it comes down to personal preferences and what you can reasonably spend to hedge against fiat. For example, I really like these cryptidcoins. The last batch of 9oz was the same price as a 10oz bar, but they're way cooler and are a nice fit between stacking and collecting. But there's a lot of BS out there so just shop around a lot so you don't get burned.

i was warning about this. Barrick and their chinese creditors went too far with their bullshit in PNG.

Also doesn't help that PNG is crazy corrupt and want to squeeze even more money out of companies working on their land.

Nice, what are those boxes you're storing them in?

I currently hide my 140 oz stack in a plastic bag where I keep my sex toys. I tell people less and less how much metal I have though. Really just close friends and family. I told a co-worker how the USPS fucking just left $700 worth of silver on the doorstep of my apartment, and after I said it to him, I realized how fucking stupid of me it was to even mention it, considering the state of affairs the world is in right now.

6 months of living expenses. For me that's about 6 grand, which is 10% of my gross pay. Because of the recent Corona-chan fun time hoax, I only have about $400 in my account right now. Job security looks pretty good for the next few months tho, so I will be able to build it back up.

You sold for a reason and that would have some bearing on what I would recommend. I don't know if your entire liquid net worth is in cash or not. If it is, I'd buy something like 10% - 20% of the cash in CEF or PHYS to hedge its purchasing power. If you have other assets such as equities or bonds in a different account, I'd do something different but, not knowing your exact situation, I cannot make a good recommendation.

I'm assuming you sold in earlier this year because you thought there was going to be a substantial correction? Well, you didn't buy back in when the indexes were down over 30%. Was this because you felt that the valuations were still too high? The markets have recovered nearly their entire drawdowns and yet the economic outlook for at least the next six months looks terrible.

For what it's worth, I bought nothing during the crash because I felt that valuations were still out of this world and they are even worse now. However, I am also not 100% in cash or bonds because the central banks have become dangerously reckless and I feel that there is a risk that high inflation will appear suddenly, not gradually as the central banks hope.

Yeah I didn't buy the dip because I was expecting it to continue on for quite a while longer, certainly my mistake. I'm currently about 15% in physical PMs, 30% crypto, 5% liquid cash, and the remaining 50% in cash in my IRA. If I bought in right now I would still be at a net profit at least, but like you said the economic prospects for the next 6 months are very bleak. At the very least I want to consider my options with the IRA money since it is not liquid. I don't own any other stocks, bonds, or equities at the moment. I may hedge with mining stocks as well since whether we crash or moon from QE they should still have good long term prospects.

I'm not sure what I'd do if I were you because I don't quite know how to classify the cryptocurrencies. I'd probably consider them an extremely speculative asset that may catch a serious bid if there is monetary mayhem. I'd probably consider any one of the three actions, if I were you:

1. As you are thinking, put 5% - 10% of your assets in good mining stocks

2. Put an additional 5% of your assets in precious metals

3. Put 10% of your assets in equities. It appears that emerging market equities are quite a bit cheaper than developed market equities (US equities are by far the most expensive on the planet) and prepare for a very unpleasant, volatile ride. If there is one final crash coming in this cycle, the emerging market stocks are likely to get hammered worse than developed market stocks but they should recover more quickly and do markedly better over the next 10 years or so.

I am basing the EM hypothesis on valuations and the research put out by GMO. GMO projects its EM Value asset class to return 11.8% real (~14% nominal), compounded over the next 7 years. It's been awhile since I've looked at the country allocations that make up GMO's EM Value but I do remember it being quite different from MSCI's EM index.

Personally, I buy into the EM idea but I want to reduce exposure to China. I think and hope that the west finally sees how bad it is to do business with China and can somehow say no to a fast buck to do business with less corrupt partners. I'd think that South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan should do well. Malaysia and Singapore might also do well. I hope the west avoids doing business with Vietnam, India, and Pakistan. Vietnam is just another Communist country that will be about as crooked as China and will play the same IP theft and engage in the same unfair business practices as China. India and Pakistan as utterly corrupt and the bulk of the population is too unskilled to do anything useful.

While you are right that this series of banknotes (50 had a sunflower, 250 had a lighthouse) had a less personal character than their predecessors (pic related), it doesn't make them any less iconic or patriotic. The snipe is a common bird in Dutch landscape among lots of other birds that call our distinctive landscape home. As you may know, a large portion of Dutch soil is reclaimed land which used to be flooded by sea, which, besides economic power, resulted in large natural reserves and the snipe reminds us of our intricate bond with nature, pride, and our rich culture. These things can not be seen apart from each other. Similar for the sunflower which symbolizes a flourishing economy, harvest, and optimism, and the lighthouse which symbolizes our victory at sea, not only have we reclaimed land and turned it into paradise, we also dominated the world with our fleet for decades. These banknotes are as based as it gets. Even though they were introduced in the 70's and there may have been some marxist ideology involves in removing our heroes faces from our currency, our national pride is unshakable.
