Hey all, so recently I figured that I should start trying to build up credit and I'm just curious as of what's a good starter credit card to have? I read that Capitol One is pretty decent but I'm not sure as of what to go with. Any help would be appreciated

Get a 500 dollar limit credit card and connect it to your debit account so you automatically pay off what you owe. Build it up and then get CASHBACK CARDS. Then get a bunch of loans and buy link and pay them back.

>starting credit cards when the credit market is imploding.
>unintentionally based

>> No.18733861

Go with chase freedom or freedom unlimited

>> No.18733882

Us bank cash plus has pretty awesome rewards, stuff like 5% cash back on utilities if your providers in the list.

>> No.18733899

Start with Discover It
after 1 year, Chase Freedom
3 months after that, Chase Freedom Unlimited or Business Unlimited

At this point you can finish out Chase cards or start Amex

If you want to focus entirely on cash back, after Discover IT and Chase Freedom, BoA Cash Rewards, Wells Fargo Propel, Apple card if you own iPhone and don't see yourself ever using Android

So now would probably not be a good time to get a credit card? I'm still new to the market and stuff so forgive my ignorance
>>18733861 I was looking at Chase because I've heard decent things about them too
>>18733882
I can't say I've ever heard of them before, are they really starter friendly?

You almost certainly will not get a Chase card as your first card, don't waste your time and drop your score

I had very little credit history when I got it, they only gave me a 500$ limit but I was able to raise it a few months later, if you got literally nothing for credit history I guess it might be hard to get idk.

>> No.18734200

My very first credit card I got with zero credit history was an Amex blue cash everyday card, they gave me a 7500$ limit so Ima guess just about anyone can get that one, good for groceries and gas.

I tried applying for the Discover It card and it says I was declined so I'd what to do now lmao.

I was going to suggest trying to open an account at your local credit union but I literally just applied for a $500 limit credit card at the bank where I've been a member my entire life and they denied me without explanation.

>>18734200
You got a $7500 limit Amex with no credit history?? What are the terms?

call the reconsideration line if you can get through and ask them why you weren't approved

>> No.18734418

>>18734226
also, who do you bank with

>> No.18734442

>>18734418
I have a checking account with First Convince Bank (Local Texas bank)
And yeah I might consider calling them

Okay nvm I got approved for Discover fuck yeah

>> No.18734824

Congratulations. Make sure you put all your spend on it since the cash back you get is doubled but only for the first year. Discover IT is a good 5% category card that will be useful for as long as the card remains open.

bumping for interest, congrats to OP

anyone used the Self Visa card? My credit score is 640 and I make like $10k/year, who the fuck will give me a credit card so I can get my score up?
