Is it really that hard to beat the S&P 500 index? Why do so many seem to say that's impossible and very difficult in the long term on here, when I see investors everywhere with portfolios of like 10% a month?

I read somewhere that buying stocks that are 'unfairly' beaten down is a good way to beat the market.

The more money you need to pay with to make that 10% means you'll either need to buy many more different types of funds, or buying just a few different ones will turn you into a market-maker. And you'll have SEC rules you don't have as a small trader
