the mercury your probably finding was used in rocker boxes with mercury traps or from men not knowing how to pan with mercury and loosing it. That mercury from the dredge probably hasnt moved more than a few meters since, its incredibly dense horrible substance. Often when I am creek crawling on famous creeks in BC, I ll find a peanut butter like paste of gray mercury amalgam stuck in cracks or in gravels. I ll usually use a tiny back pack dredge to clean that shit up, its horrible for the environment and its loaded with gold.

I am sure the mercury in the sluices of the dredge is still probably loaded as well if its still out there.

they refloated the dredge but the mercury was lost. I've only dug at the site of the sinking. It's all of 12 feet to bedrock so it's not hard to find. Plenty of free mercury though. That's where most of mine came from. I only have a couple pounds though.

They're more dense and heavier than you expect. Also, more attractive and more-ish.
Even granted ridiculous premiums, prepare to save more money than you ever have in your life, especially if you get into the habit of buying coins that you are emotionally attached to and couldn't bear to sell.

For me, this is almost becoming a conscious strategy: if I bought too many bars, generic rounds or even too much of the same easily replaceable coin like ASEs, I would be tempted to sell in the event of the slightest hit to my finances.

Whereas when most of your coins are unique you'd almost literally live in a cardboard box on the street before you'd dream of selling.

One way you can avoid massive premiums and still have fun is by buying all the different 1oz silver coins from the big mints. Collect them like Pokémon cards almost, get an ASE, get a Chinese panda, get all those Perth mint animals... a lot of them only go for a little bit over spot, too. Also, Austrian Philharmonics look lovely and are the cheapest new 1oz silver coins around at least where I am.

Also, Constitutional silver is fucking awesome. Not so cheap anymore sadly, but still close-ish to spot, Ron Paul sheds a manly tear when you buy some and Kennedy smiles down on you from heaven, you can fuck around with them in a way you can't with new coins because they're already gnarled and old, they look like pirate treasure, they're a piece of American history. ALSO newly minted 1/10oz of silver pieces are ridiculously expensive, while old silver dimes are really affordable.

Yep, I wonder how my behaviors will change. Up until now my wealth has always been primarily a number on a screen. I have a cousin who separated from the family to go live in his dad's homestate for a while and then he came back a completely different person. He now owns an undisclosed amount of silver and he owns guns and property. It's a pretty big deal, considering his history with partying and poverty and a total lack of education. I admire his success.
I bought the 5oz american samoa "batboy" because of memes. A perfect souvenir for these times. I told my brother I ordered it and he looked concerned, because he thinks only paranoid people stack precious metals. Well, I'm not saying that I'm not paranoid, but I explained to him that the biggest appeal to me is to actually hold my wealth in my hand and say "this cost one day of labor"

several hundred thousand reported ounces of gold have come from placers and hard rock mining in and around San Diego county. Most of the gold has come from lode deposits, with ore relatively close to the surface, a rich oxidized decomposed quartz that carries large free mill gold.

notable areas include
>Boulder Creek mining district
>San Diego River
>Cuyamaca District, Deer Park and Pine Valley districts.

Placer does exist in the area but due to the dry conditions and limited water only a hand full of placer creeks were mined to their full potential.

Im living in Vietnam now and have been out to the gold region in the highlands here
Just talking to locals they say there is buttloads of gold sitting out there in these highland streams, just its in the middle of thick jungle and a pain to get through. One guy showed me a nugget he found that was as big as my toe

Some time ago a big corporate operation cut through the forest and set up two major gold mines, they were mining huge amounts of gold until they had to shut down due to ridiculous government taxes

Now because this region has been cleared out of jungle thousands of locals and illegal chinese miners are rushing there to grab what they can

Still makes me think about what ‘ive heard, that the mountains are still crawling with gold that no one has touched since few people go that deep into the jungle.

Ok, its all to do with geology.

Basically Gold is down under the crust at the contact of the mantle in a brine fluid with other metals. This brine works its way up into rocks a 25-40 km below the surface. each time a fault opens the pressure shoots this brine into the faults and generates ore veins. These than take moments or centuries to cool into ore that than with mountain building are exposed to the surface and weather into creeks or surface soil.
Gold and other precious metals can be associated with volcanic activity, but its a lot more nuanced than just volcano = gold.

If glaciation happens, the mountains the gold and other metals are locked in are ground down, and the gold is deposited by streams under the ice into channels where it remains after the ice leaves.

Its even odder if you get into how nuggets form, many times, they basically grow in the near surface rock near ore bodies.

Mostly the government cracks down hard on ANY illegal told mining
But pretty much all gold mining is illegal here, or at least its in a grey area and the government can just confiscate everything if they feel like it.
This is the main reason why PM mining has been so slow to develop here
In Laos and Myanmmar the Chinese have massive ops set up and are pulling loads of gold out of the hills
I imagine here is the same

As for the quality Ive no seen it myself, from what I’ve heard its mostly coarse small grain gold, but lots of it.
This guy who had a big nugget had it on display as a sort of trophy, the rest he said he melts down into bars so he can sell it as if it is “legal” government gold

Premiums here are so fucked up buying State gold so many people don't care about doing it illegally.

>> No.18725870

>>18725743
In Vietnam it is due to past volcanic activity and not glaciers
There are a lot of hotspots along the Annamite range, but few have been developed due to harsh terrain, political issues, and due to the fact that these highlands are all “native territory” which leads to even more trouble.

The government is too pigheaded and would rather import fucktons of gold than just mine the huge amount under their feet, this is 100% because if they import they maintain total control of the gold market.

Depends on how organized they are
The chinese have big dredges and they wash away large areas into nearby reservoirs where workers pan
Some smaller operations just dig bore holes and every grandmum goes down tot he river to pan for gold washing down as leftovers from the operations upstream.

This all is in the area of a large proven gold mine which went bust due to tax/political reasons and not for lack of any gold.
What entices me more is the possibility of more gold that hasn’t been officially identified yet.
The stories of old guys wandering out to the woods for a week and making a little bamboo sluice then coming home with pockets full of gold makes my mouth water.
I just don’t want to end up in a 1m square cage in Hanoi if I ever got caught.

By natives I mean the local tribals, these are a different group entirely from the Vietnamese
in the War they called them the Montagnards and they don’t have any problem with killing people who try to take what they feel is theirs (like panning the wring creek)
The local viets love gold more than any people I’ve seen so they go mad the instant anyone gets word of a big strike.
The main issue is the government as always, technically panning is not illegal, but its not legal either
Any sort of digging requires a ton of permits and other certifications which many just ignore. Its often cheaper to bribe someone than pay the insane government taxes

Mostly its the Chinese who run big grey or black market mining here since if they get in trouble they can cry to Beijing and likely go home.
Me I’d like to try panning next time I go out to the central highlands.
Back in my home country I hobby panned a lot so I have a bit of experience.

Hello Pan Man, firstly I appreciate your posts and have bene seeing your posts for a long time now. I live in an area surrounded by mountains. I know for a fact there is gold, silver, copper, beryllium, germanium... it's polymetallic. I bought a copy of research to do with the area and it seems there is literally everything here. It's been mined since before Roman time too. For the last 20 years nothing has been going on though and it's not because they ran out it's all political. It's all rocky ground. On the mountain there are a number or natural springs that go all year round even when it's negative 40 out. There are rivers coming off the mountain but they are all large as fuck and I'd like to not die exploring them. The banks are smooth peddles and boulders after the snow melt. There are a few small lacks up on the mountains with extremely step shores. I suppose, what do I need to find out or where should I be looking for easy to get to gold?

>> No.18726554

start with looking for places like bedrock in the creeks that feed the main river. Bedrock is solid, continuous rock in the creek bed, if there is gold you will find it there, trapped in cracks filled with gravel.

Look for these signs
>rust colored course gravels mixed with boulders in the river banks
>moss in the water line of the creek, pan here
>deep cracks filled with large river stones and gravel where the river is highest in spring

pan in these areas and you should be able to find something. I have no idea where you are, italy? germany? austria?

Constitutional is great fun, and if you're eagle-eyed, you can even add to that stack in your day-to-day business.

Pic related shows what I've managed to pick up for free since January 1 this year, just out of one Coinstar machine. All you have to do is be willing to check the coin return and around the machine when you pass by one. Silver coins (except war nickels) weigh outside of spec for the machine, and thus get kicked out (CoinStar machines are very picky about what they'll accept, and will kick coins back out for the slightest reason).

>>18725150
Constitutional with the modern appearance (Rosies, Washingtons, 64 Kennedys) can be good or bad, depending on your stacking purposes.
They're newer, and thus have higher silver content due to less wear, but could also be mistaken for the clad/fiat versions and rejected by the bottom half of the bell curve should they ever be needed for trade in a post-hyperinflation economy. It's easier to be able to get people to understand "old design == silver" than it is to get them to understand "before 1965 == silver", since the latter requires them to pay attention.

There's a space at about knee height where rejected coins fall to. All you do when you go by is look there. It's like checking the coin return in a vending machine.

Because CoinStar (the company) has to be extra careful about how it does business, since it handles money, after all, the machines are made very sensitive and there is no internal reject bin. These machines would rather reject a coin than fail to count it if it's American clad, or accidentally take something foreign and worthless.

Because of the previous, silver dimes, quarters and half dollar coins get rejected due to their weight, since silver is a denser metal than copper.

Taking all the above into account, what will usually happen is a customer will dump their change, and then one of the two following situations will occur:

1) the customer walks out without even checking the reject tray. this is when you'll find random fiat change (save to buy silver). If they happened to have a silver coin in their dump, it'll be in there too.

2) Even if the customer feeds the rejects back in, the silver and other foreign coins will keep getting kicked out. Eventually, everything in the tray will get rejected, and if it looks like a bunch of foreign, they'll just leave it behind, and silver will likely be in the mix.
This situation provides the somewhat-common scenario of walking up and finding just a silver Roosevelt dime (rarely a Merc) in the reject tray.

i would buy a batboi if they: (1) had 999 silver or at least an S marked on them and (2) came direct from U.S. mint with COA and box. call me crazy but america the beautiful coins ought to have a premium and come in box + COA to justify the premium. i would not want to buy just a raw coin in some shitty plastic case. even the Germania coins come in plastic and a little COA note, it's not that hard. plus the batboi's design is ugly.

The dragon and unicorns are non-existent in US and go for ~$90 each (2oz).

I ordered them through a silver shop in germany for ~$50 each. Only reason they werent sold out is because you have to VPN to make it look like you are in Germany. Your bank/CC throws a shitfit when they see an international transaction coming FROM germany IP.

The amount of hoops I had to go through was more than most are willing or able to do.

But getting an automatic 2x multiplier to value is a good feeling.

Bought 3 dragons and 4 unicorns to complete 3 sets eventually.
Going to give extra unicorn to nieces who are into unicorns.

I think there's just something about holding that first silver coin that turns a person into a stacker. Hold a nice chunky 1964 Kennedy half dollar (don't worry, there's MILLIONS of the things, and they even made them dated 1964 into 1965), and understand it's real money. The value in it never went away. That's why you probably had to pay close to $7 for it (or you lucked out and found one in a roll for 50¢).

When total debasement occurred, even the bills had to be changed to show that you couldn't turn them in for silver anymore. If you ever see a 'blue seal' note for cheap, pick one up, and spend time actually reading what's on it.

Hello fellow stackers...

I began stacking in 2015, silver. trying numi bullion first, like kookaburra and stuff.... Then I noticed shit, either I sell to ever more aging boomers that want to complete the collection not understanding that they already had the collection full, or sell back to bullion deale/LCS and they only pay bullion buyback price, no premium on top.....
So I became a closest to spot bullion buyer.... then I noticed that during certain times anything that is not a guv minted coin also gets hosed on the selling side.

I have 700 ounces now and want to buy more if premiums ever go back to normal, otherwise I say I have enough silver.

Now Gold... I bought 10 x1 OZ Goldphilharmonics and 13 20 pesos coins (15g fine gold, 900 pure)..

Why? because I lived in Austria and now in Mexico. Here comes the best part: This shitvirus is shtting everything down and exit roads are closed.

If it gets bad and Ill have to leave for the woods there is no way, because not dilation of me getting the 1 ounce gold into the prison wllet, and the same applies for the silver, as it is just too much..

Lesson learned, do not buy coins bigger than your prison wallet can take.

Well a few methods you can check your own coins:

>Ping test
Silver has a very specific ring to it, go ahead and test that. You can find the sound all over the internet, it's very different than the sound a clad fake would make
>Neodymium magnet
If you slide one across a silver coin, it should slide off somewhat slowly. So not entirely attracted, but also not so attracted it sticks. See gif related. No it's not slowed down.
>caliper
Check to make sure your coin/round is the proper diameter/thickness.
>rim
This one is an instant spot. If the coin has a reeded edge and shouldnt, for example, you know immediately that its counterfeit.
>Weight
Probably the most common check. If it's over the official weight, it's 100% counterfeit. If it's only a bit under, then it may be counterfeit. However, some really worn coins can be significantly lighter due to the wear.

all good points. i would chime in and say the magnet test isn't 100% guaranteed, since copper also behaves similarly with magnets. the easiest test i do is dunk the silver half-way in hot water whilst holding the other end, and see how fast the whole bar gets hot. and then see how long the heat stays in the bar. silver is the fastest conductor of heat and electricity. the bar should get hot within seconds. the same wouldn't happen with steel bars. the only problem is, it also doesn't rule out that it's clad with copper interior.

frenly reminder we still live in clown reality. look at what they choose to highlight in their top nav bar. this is why i don't really like investing dot com. dude weed, but never dude silver or dude gold, until that day when it's too late.

maybe i'm being paranoid, but wot if, wot if the IRS looks at how you spent your trumpbux. they gave you direct deposit, they have eyes on all accounts, they know you are buying PMs and not food. i am going to jump through extra hoops and pay using money order instead of the bank acct in which they deposit my trumpbux, assuming they deposit it at all.

i have never heard of mason mint before...be careful fren and do your DD just like with any "investment". my opinion is that with silver, you are better off with a dual strategy: get high end beautifully designed coins and bars from reputable mints, AND accumulate lots of silver through purchase of 10 oz, 100 gram, and kilo bars. but i personally would not want to buy a 10 oz silvertowne or a 10 oz. "mason mint" bar.

coins/bars i like, and with justified high premium: germania, perth bars, britannia bar, st. george slaying dragon....the 5 germanias i bought are now sold out and going for higher than what i paid. premiums and spot prices are a meme. if you pick the right coins with great designs, they will increase in value above and beyond fake and gay spot price.

i've stopped buying sunshine mints because even those get faked. to the point where they had to come up with a decoder lens. that's the big risk in general, especially if you don't buy from the most reputable dealers.

price is what you pay, value is what you get. i would rather get a 10 oz. bar from scottsdale:

Well desu I used my CC, ONLY because it put me at my spending point of receiving a $200 cash gift. The price difference between using my CC and ACH was $35, so I pulled the trigger to get the $200. And even if I did use my bank account the IRS doesn't have access to my statements. It doesnt work like that. There are also no conditions on the stimulus. So yes I think you're being slightly paranoid, but rightly so as the IRS is illegitimate from the get go.

I'm officially done.
For real this time.
I got 6oz of 40% half dollars to add to the stack of 2011 koalas on the way and then another purchase inspired by an annon here.
My first Gold buy.
Hope it doesn't take a dive. Still kicking myself for not buying before Gold hit a grand wayyyy back but I had little capital,an addiction, plenty of cynicism and little credentials.
Now I'm ready to learn.

Litecoin seems undervalued but I never bought crypto. Thinking of trying it.

Started buying 1/4 oz gold pieces earlier in the month. Why are silver premiums over spot so high compared to it? Is it from the price barrier dampening demand?

>Why are silver premiums over spot so high compared to it? Is it from the price barrier dampening demand?

The spot price is mainly dictated by the paper silver ETF market, which people are mass liquidating to finance their businesses (or just their personal finances) due to the Corona virus screwing up the economy. At the same time people are rushing into the physical silver market due to the panic of an economic depression, causing severe shortages in the real world supplies of silver. These retardo premiums over spot are just more reflective of the actual price, as now we're in a situation where there's a price disconnect of the paper market vs. the physical market.

I really can't answer that question, no one knows for certain what the future is going to bring in the coming months. I will say that even factoring in the extreme premiums, the actual end price you're going to be paying for silver isn't all that terrible from historical prices.

If you already have an little emergency stack prepared for an economic collapse (20+ ounces) I wouldn't feel compelled to buy more. If own zero silver it might be a good idea to at least get a little now, if for no other reason as a long term safety hold. We could see a lot of price fluctuations in the coming months in both directions so it's usually a good idea to go in to owning silver/gold with long-term safety in mind and not fretting over what the particular price is on a given day, otherwise you're just going to stress yourself out (particularly in the current situation).
