1. Use a 24 PPI sponge filter from an aquarium store. This filters the shit out so the water is not toxic. The filter also oxygenates the water so they can breathe better.

2. You need to be sure the water is not too acidic or it's not hard (rain water, not from a deep well where there are minerals).

3. Room temperature, if the thing freezes over the shrimp will die.

Anyone else do any other animal agriculture?

When I get a property, I'm getting into rabbitry.

>NZ and California White cross gives a litter of 5-8 kits
>In 6 weeks with ~$6 in food, the kits will get to butcher weight
>skinned and boned (easy bc they are small), they are ~4lbs.
>it's the leanest and lowest cholesterol red meat and you can sell it to fine dining restaurants and soccer moms at farmer's markets for $4/lb.
>Sell pelts for $2-$3 to craft supply places
>Potential of $13 profit per animal, once your equipment, like hutches and such, are paid off
>low maintenance
>fine living in cages, since they are 1,000's of generations removed from their wild cousins

Pic related for a good rabbitry guide. Storey's guides are made for other animals as well.

I had a friend in highschool who grew pidgeons, they make for nice soup. But I don't think they are valuable.

IMHO short pidgins, long shrimp. Carp are a falling knife.

>> No.18688946

>>18688825
If you want to maintain the whole pelt, you calm it down and hold it up by it's hind legs and whack it with a priest (that short bat fishermen use to whack fish, funny name). Hard and fast.

I couldn't find a link, but there's this specialty rabbitry supply store that sells this thing that's like a bar you bolt to the wall with a long bar that's welded to one end of the bar and comes off of it at like a 20 degree angle. You slide the rabbits neck in the wide side and slide it over to the skinny side gently and then quickly yank its hind legs and it snaps the neck at the base of the skull. Even a kid could kill a rabbit this way without feeling too bad.

getting into aquaculture is great. I'm at a 3rd world country and have a property bought for 500k USD for aquafarming. Milkfish is a reliable money maker here. On average, I get 80k USD a year for virtually doing nothing. I just hire a few people and pay them 200-500 USD a month to feed, raise the fish, harvest, and ship to the local market. It's good money in the 3rd world, where 3 bedroom luxury condos in the capital cost only about 1000 USD a month. The hard part is scaling it. It's hard to find cheap property as well as handle logistics. And since you're in the 3rd world, hard to find workers you can trust to not steal your shit. Nowadays, I just save the bulk of the money and pour it into crypto and stocks. Looking to move to a 1st world country in a few years, this place is a shithole

Just collect some rain water and test it for acidity with PH paper that changes color based on the level.

Well water I think is 'hard' because of minerals - the same reason why washing clothes requires a different amount of detergent based on the quality of the water. Though a shallow ground water well would probably not be too hard.
I'd say if you want quality water then use rain water. Aquarium stores also have products for treating tap water so it's suitable for fish.

bring those chefs 1/4-1/2 lb sample of your product. Tell them your shrimp are: 1. artisinally grown 2. a local product 3. better than the usual pakistani aquafarmed garbage they get from sysco
keep trying. One of those chefs will buy a pound or ten from you.

if you're going to be raising a lot of them for market, it's better to get one of those airpowered boltguns.
it's faster, cheaper, and more humane for the shrimp.

look up whatever high value herbs and flowers grow easily in your region. This is the kind of thing you can try at a small scale and then ramp it up if you like it.
There's a lot of ways to sell herbs and flowers, too. Don't overlook the spiritual herbs market.
And there are often value-added products you can make and sell, too. (Soaps, extracts, hell some things you can soak in everclear for a month and sell it out by the half ounce.)
