I bought an index fund that tracks the whole world but now I saw that the S&P500 gets higher returns, on average almost 10% than the world ETF, which only gets 7%.

unironically look at the highs and lows of both the individual candles as well as the price action in general. it's not hard. the key is that lime green line that shows most recently, higher lows are being made, which is inherently bullish. by definition, an uptrend is "higher highs and higher lows". if it starts making equal highs/lows it's a range and if one side is decreasing in power while the other side stays the same, it's an ascending/descending triangle which usually shows decreasing power from one side and usually results in a breakthrough of the equal side (i.e. a descending triangle is bearish because the lows remain the same and the bulls push it up less and less each time they buy, until they fail and it breaks through to new lows).

>high unemployment is not a crisis, it lowers labour costs

The debt crisis is however real, real estate, commercial property, highly leveraged businesses [ AKA all of them ] are going to have to downsize, sell off and try not to get bankrupt, HOWEVER if we open up in may then everything will resume back to normal

The only catalyst to a downtrend would be if lockdowns get extended through the summer, then we would be seeing some shit go down however the state of George has been opened friday and if only the weak/old die in a few weeks you can expect the entire nation to open by end of may

You're right, it's worse. Everything has been an over-reaction. The sell-offs were tied into ETFs which drug down prices of industries that weren't exposed at all, which caused a further fear sell, and then algos pushed in a supermassive short squeeze that temporarily restored prices and has lasted long enough for people to take while the rest abandon ship, hoping that the likes of AMZN might actually act as a safehaven, but once the price gets too high a few big players are going to have to take or they'll get their asses pounded as the market screams downward.

If retarded shit wasn't happening we could've picked decent fundamentals out of the burning heaps of shit for true value and rode that shit back up over the next 20 years and let the corpses burn for a more fruitful harvest next debt cycle. Instead we've got an over-reacted stimulus bill that might just quash the economy for good as it erects dozens of worthless zombie companies and props up retail investors with FOMO for a second wave loss to wash them dry of any powder they might have retained.

why would high unemployment be a crisis?

There would be a surplus of labour, one that the states could leverage to build new infrastructure projects at fractions of pore-crash costs.

They might have to increase social welfare just to hand out some gibs and keep 30-40 million people from rioting, and there will be slightly less tax revenues from all the unemployed but its not as bad as the debt crisis IMO

That means the landlord, the phone company, the dealership and the bank are all going to eat that impact. The retail store and the restaurant are going to be missing 20m people worth of revenue.

The landlord won't be able to fix the breaking shit, and will miss his their own payments, and their rental company will drop them.

Dealerships will have to sell cars for pennies on the dollar, they'll have to sick the billing companies and repo-men on their clients.

Now all the corporations who are leveraged to the tits in god knows what are missing the next year on earnings and they're going to get railed. They'll stop paying on their bonds and get downgraded, making it harder for them to get credit and building more resistance to growth meaning they will hurt over a much longer period of time.

>Warren Buffet is going to, through various shell entities, tender offers to buy 4 banks next week all of them having one thing in common:

>A bulletproof team of people who do the SBA PPP loans. He's going to leverage them to effectively kickstart the United States economy and his four banks will become some of the strongest banks in the United States since they're smaller publicly traded banks with a niche focus in SBA.

>Since the majority of these banks portfolios are with SBA loans, ie loans that are secured by the government, there's basically zero way they will lose money. Many SBA lending institutions function to effectively make the loans and sell the guaranteed portion to a secondary market resource, etc. Even if the underlying loan fails, since it's secured by the government, the bank won't lose money if the loans perform for 18 months. The SBA(7)a express program will singlehandedly save the US economy and Buffett will categorically deny owning these banks until the cows come home. There will be several no name Single Family Offices behind the deals. Buffett accrued his cash pile and refused to spend it prior because he realized assets were overvalued. He will be running around with a fleet of British Navy frigates sinking everyone by cannon volley due to his cash position.

>PPP loans generate a 5% origination fee, Buffett has come up with some pretty sweet financial engineering to hyperaccelerate the financial system for the small business economy through this

>Easy no brainer trades are shorting Capital One and go long on gold/silver. I know the guy at Morgan Stanley and he was the one who told me someone is trying to short a fuck ton of CapOne on Monday, so it confirmed my thoughts from weeks ago. These are actually all trades I had done since there was a ZeroHedge article weeks ago so I'm not really giving you guys anything sensitive. They apparently are fucked because of oil derivative exposure, and this was when it was at like $20. I loaded up on shorts because all the SMART oil guys I knew said it was going to get worse. Now we have negative oil, how long will the bomb last before detonating? They got excemptions to NOT file reports about how bad it is. We're fucked more than 2008 with oil, things will be different forever LOL.

what's different about this time is that the economy was leading the stock market. jobs and businesses were lost in lockstep with lockdown duration.

There are a few interesting conclusions I draw from this: (1) a large part of the real economic decline is going to happen almost immediately, whereas in previous crashes it was only after quarters/years of slowly declining sales and revenue. This lets unproductive capital fail much more quickly and with less of a drawn out painful death. A slowly failing business is like a boomer on life support, bleeding their loans and whatever else dry and pushing the burden onto lenders. The lenders are already tightening significantly which should greatly help reduce the duration of this crash. (2) the fed is slowing down the crisis for medium and large caps, where we'll see a traditionally long recession. (3) credit related to property, traditional discretionary spending, anything bordering leveraged financials are all getting hit hard and fast and we definitely haven't seen the real shakeouts and bankruptcies there yet. (4) the first wave of bankruptcies will really set the tone for the rest, nominally happening about 3-4 weeks after the first major cities "reopen" and realize it's not going back to how it was.

>I wonder if 2008 played into that reversal

how so?

>he's got a team of people handling his shit now
i meant how he initially earned his wealth, he did the Big Short on the british pound.

>Soros had been building a huge short position in pounds sterling for months leading up to September 1992. Soros had recognized the unfavorable position of the United Kingdom in the European Exchange Rate Mechanism. For Soros, the rate at which the United Kingdom was brought into the European Exchange Rate Mechanism was too high, their inflation was also much too high (triple the German rate), and British interest rates were hurting their asset prices.[69]
>By September 16, 1992, the day of Black Wednesday, Soros's fund had sold short more than $10 billion in pounds,[62] profiting from the UK government's reluctance to either raise its interest rates to levels comparable to those of other European Exchange Rate Mechanism countries or float its currency.
>Finally, the UK withdrew from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism, devaluing the pound. Soros's profit on the bet was estimated at over $1 billion.[70] He was dubbed "the man who broke the Bank of England".[71] The estimated cost of Black Wednesday to the UK Treasury was £3.4 billion.[72] Stanley Druckenmiller, who traded under Soros, originally saw the weakness in the pound and stated: "[Soros's] contribution was pushing him to take a gigantic position."[73][74]

Price to earnings. A good holistic indicator, and should never be the only one, appraising the overall stock market valuation of a company versus the money it brings in. Good to compare companies within the same industry to get a sense of over/underbought. Such an old metric that companies will routinely play accounting tricks to inflate earnings. Also can't really judge if an entire industry is over/underbought.
In practical terms it might give you a sense of the likelihood of returns from dividends. A P/E of 10 means that, for example, a company could pay a dividend of 10 cents for every dollar earned and that would be a 1% return for investors holding the stock.
Zoom would literally go bankrupt if they even offered a dividend of 0.01% with their nearly 2000 P/E

A leverage ETF tracking, for instance, the S&P will seek to move 200% of the S&P's move for the day. So, using a 2x leveraged ETF, if the S&P closes +1% the 2x ETF will close approximately +2%. It's never exact but it's usually pretty close. The 2x is only calculated for the single day, there is no carry over calculation between days. Over time, a leveraged ETF will tend to degrade due to the way the calculation works, which makes you risk higher and odds of underperformance higher the longer you hold. However, 2x S&P ETF backtests well for long hold and does outperform the S&P. The greater the leverage the worse the decay and the greater the risk.

If you are doing a leveraged ETF tracking futures contracts of a commodity, like oil for instance, there are additional problems you need to be aware of related to futures contract rollover.
