Using this as a rough guide, what price do you chainlink hitting eoy? I’m thinking 15-25$, then maybe 50-100 in 2021

If the market cap was x, not chainlink

So how is it getting there? Crypto rallies to 2 trillion total, almost triple the old ATH, and link climbs into the top 5-6 coins? That would put bitcoin at like 90,000$ givencurrent dominance. That seems unlikely this year desu

If the market cap was X and chainlink captures Y% to be precise, still just an inconvenient way to say what I first said

Lots of other shitcoins out there. Bitcoin could go to 20k and chainlink could still be $100. Even if btc dominance stayed the same there's still bitcoin gold, bitcoin diamond, bitcoin platinum, bitcoin cash, bitcoin satoshis vision, bitcoin for dogs, 0xbitcoin, brap, dentacoin, niggercoin, kleros, grounder, cardano, xlm, etc. If all the shitcoins that don't do anything dumped hard the total mcap doesn't even have to move much for chainlink to hit double or triple digits. The chart in op is cool and I've always liked them but they are way too bearish since it only considers current mcap of shitcoin at rank X. How you'd go about accounting for what I mentioned leaves me clueless though, the creator of the image did a great job as it is. Too much effort to add in shifting caps like that but in the real world that's how it will go. Take those numbers as a very conservative estimate.

Top 5 account for 165.33b. That leaves 35.03b left. All others won't really go to zero so let's just say it averages to -50%. That's a potential 17.65b for chainlink to absorb. Keeping it simple we'll say link marketcap is 17.65b. That gives us a price of $50.27 and that's with the current top 5 staying the same, just pushed around a little so link is number 3 and bitcoin cash now number 6.

How much does life cost? I see 5% thrown around often as staking rewards. Average household income in US is 63k. 63k*20=1.26m. 1.26m/17k=$70 linkies.
Say steaking comes out and we're still at $5, just hodl and let your stack increase. A year of $5 link is 850 link vs 4.25k usd. Just hodling could make that 5% feel more like 25% if you wait for it to become 21.25k at $25 linkies. Thats not even accurate since there will be a compounding effect here. In a way we're better off if prices stay low a bit after steaking since services are paid for in USD or whatever but steakers only get paid in link.

With the social distancing meme I smell an unexpected usecase for trustless self executing contracts. Don't want the 'rona? Hate making offers and counteroffers in a cramped conference room while still hoping both ends hold up their end of the deal so you don't have to go to court? Write a smart contract over a webconference call, have both sides audit, sign, and be done with it. This isn't oil or some boomer brick and mortar store. It's not just resilient, chainlink can flourish in these types of environments.

i just want to make enough to let my parents retire because they suck with money

cash out a a sizeable amount then buy an index fund when it has dropped enough and withdraw 1-2% a year for their income

I don't want luxuries, just want less stress about money
