i don't get it. it's more or less impossible to figure out what's going to happen when you hold overnight. maybe you win big, maybe you lose big, who fucking knows? only intraday can you use TA to know wtf is going on at any given point in time, to find good entrypoints to any given trend, to have reasonable risk management.

seriously explain it to me because i don't get it. as cliche as it is, and i know it is, you guys must hate money or something. trading regardless of time frame is literally about nothing except risk vs. reward. for all of the people who went long on oil at $20 i don't even know what to say to you, whether to laugh at the absurdity or cry. i honestly sincerely don't get why you hate money. we are unironically in one of the most unpredictable and volatile times in the market in human history and you hold overnight. why? why do this to yourself?

im not even joking, why? i just hope you guys didn't invest that much compared to your total capital. i hope you gambled an amount you were totally fine with losing completely. if not, i hope you kys and don't reproduce, at least save the gene pool from your utter lack of intelligence, jesus fucking christ.

it's the same thing as day trading but with more risk, i don't get it. day trading doesn't have gaps or periods of time where stop losses are meaningless. "a small gap is fine" okay but then it gaps down 10% and you're fucked from some unforeseen circumstances.

it's not that you can't get lucky, it's that you're purposefully, in the long term, choosing a method where you can't control risk appropriately and where it is far more unpredictable. it's the same thing as day trading except worse, probability-wise. the people who hodl for 30 years are just risking time and opportunity cost instead of money, and the fucked up thing is that they could STILL lose in the end. it's about predictability and risk management, and you're purposefully choosing the worse one.

>"a small gap is fine" okay but then it gaps down 10% and you're fucked from some unforeseen circumstances.
Part of risk management involves not going into stocks that are liable to gap down 10%. It's perfectly fine to daytrade pharma or biomeme companies, but you would never, ever swing them.
The risk is higher but it's also less work, and with a larger upside. You don't need a win rate anywhere near as high to get similar gains to day traders, because your wins will carry you far further. You also don't have risk of slippage and aren't anywhere near as sensitive to volume. If you start making big money daytrading you will have no choice but to start also doing some longer-term investments because of these downsides.
Ultimately though, which of the two strategies you prefer is mostly based on personality, they're both basically the same thing.

that's not how it works, anon. it's more like the deaths have remained static but the population who has antibodies, but hasn't died, has grown by a wide margin. basically we didn't know the total population of infected and now we have a better understanding of it in comparison to the death rate, and the infected who didn't die are beyond expectations, way way more than we expected. a bunch of people likely already got "a really bad flu" and it was actually coronavirus but they didn't know, and they came out fine and now have antibodies for it.

Looking into glass and paper stock. I think movement in these industries suggest possible big moves coming. I'm currently watching:

>Glass
ASGLY
- Japanese, trades on NYSE
- Good-looking fundamentals, negative free cash flow is because of a recent acquisition that seems promising on paper
- Former glass-only company, now does a wider array of materials and chemicals
- Fairly cheap
- Don't see them dying soon, especially since they improved their diversification with recent moves

>APOG
- Just solid overall
- Recent insider movement suggest an uptrend is expected
- Analysts are bullish on it

>Paper
>WRK
- Timid but bullish insider movement
- They make boxes. People are buying a lot (think amazon). They'll be OK
- Decent discount

>VRS
- New VP recently
- Good insider movement but mostly from said new VP
- Recent mill explosion driving the price lower than it should be indicates a good entrypoint
- Specialty paper products (craft, prints, etc.). Not entirely clear how they'll fare

Thoughts?

Oil etfs hold the current month's futures contracts and sell them over time while buying the next months contracts. They have to sell all their futures before they expire to avoid the liabilities associated with actually claiming the oil associated with the futures contract. When current month futures are cheaper than next month futures, the entire size/value of the fund shrinks because they are selling assets that are down in value and buying assets that are up in value, even though both assets represent 1000 barrels of oil.

For this month, USO would have bought those futures at like $30/barrel and sold a lot of them lower, some of them as low as -$40 a barrel. They need to use that money to buy next months futures, however those are much more expensive, meaning the volume of futures they can buy dropped drastically. Meaning anyone who owned USO in the last month got the majority of their stake in the oil futures market permanently wiped out. But people are still buying into oil etfs because they don't know how it's structured, so all these oil etfs are way over-valued compared to the oil futures they actually own.
