Chicago is a great city. Aside from a few city blocks in the shitty southside, its one of the safest cities in America. Low cost of living. Best restaurants in the US. Best architecture. Northern Europe is a pretty loose term. I will agree Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Holland are largely nice. Northern Germany is expensive as fuck near any decent sized city. You will NOT be buying a $200k house near reasonable commute distance in Rotterdam, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen or Hamburg.

Also nearly everything is WAY more expensive in Europe than Chicago. Eating out, alcohol, cars, gas, electricity, TAXES.

I'm sure you can show me an advertisement showing a house for sale there at $200k but buying a house in Europe is a major PITA due to all the regulations, taxes, bylaws, whimsical home sellers.

I've dropped a lot of money on my house for things I know are not monetized. For instance, I rigged my RO water to my ice maker so my scotch doesn't get shit residue in it. I installed Toto toilets so I never have to unplug a shit in my toilet ever again. I built a professional 11.2 channel / sound proof home theater in my basement for vidya which is paying back HUGE during Covid 19. All this shit is money I probably could have gotten returns in the stock market on but my family and I enjoy the fuck out of it.
