How would I apply for JSA (recently unemployed) when I have a maxed stocks & shares ISA and £2,000 in savings?

Kek, I have a large amount in savings and I didn't realise they checked, I was thinking of going on JSA surely they'll give it out to anyone who is NEET.

(Can anyone advice a better place to ask this? I guess it isn't /biz/ forté)

ISA's make things tricky, it's tied to NI number which DWP have direct access to.

It's pretty despicable t.b.h, I worked my arse off for those savings and was very frugal. But now DWP says my investments are considered capital I can subsist on. What a load of shit.

In reality my savings are £2,000 that won't last long with rent, bills, etc.

Really makes me question who the welfare state is for.... it rewards people who are financially irresponsible and punishes those who save and invest in their future.

>> No.1846891

you don't declare it and the threshold is £16,000

>> No.1846895

Just declare what you have.
If it's under £5k they don't ask for statements. Or if it's been in the last 6 months. Just say it hasn't...

Lie a bit. But they do random checks and people have been caught. Not to bad. The usually make you pay a certain amount back . hardly criminal charges

Probably too late now but you should have closed your is a and gifted the cast to a trusted party before applying for JSA. I agree that it is a shit system that punishes those who actually pay tax, save and don't spend the majority of their income on beer and ciggies.

This I think. Also, bear in mind that what you have in a little safe in precious metals is something no one has to know about, and even if revealed, doesn't have to be yours.
