So what is the difference between bitcoin and a rare video game skin?

I am being dead serious I bet none of you can explain how these boomer tokens got put on the internet and somehow being rare = value?

A video game skin is also rare and impossible to hack a rare item in the game so how will zoomers ever take toy money (Bitcoin) seriously?

It's really fucking over face it this was a rhetorical statement.

>> No.18427049

The game developer and server host have the power to alter or restrict your access to your skins

>> No.18427106

A better analogy is that they're basically digital mill coins. It's basically fiat because a small group say it is and it has nothing backing its value

Same with Bitcoin it is controlled by the mining community which is not decentralized which defeated the entire purpose years ago when mining went to China.

Yes I trust valve more than some stinky opportunistic chinks.

It's trash dude you can't even defend it anymore. Prop the price up, but the technology? Lmfao what a joke it's just toy money dumb ass. It is not backed by weapons, no different than a video game item. Truly a fucked investment.

Just warning you, I was once convinced to shill this shit to other people and what a foolish thing to do.

All money is toy money.

Even if you want to argue that mining control is too centralized, miners have no incentive to crash the price of their own investments. As opposed to fiat where governments are actively incentivized to devalue the currency

Are you saying price manipulation doesn't occur with Bitcoin? I've never seen more wash trading and fake pump scams... The video game market is actually more stable.

OP has a point actually. I have been investing in rare items and I find these to have more value than Bitcoin with a better demand. I sold a dota 2 hook I won in a contest for $700 no shit.

The video game item market is hot right now.

>delusional

You're a tard if you think Bitcoin is worth shilling you didn't explain why it is better than a video game item. I am pretty sure that video game items can be worn in the game. What can bitcoin do? Even less, that is a very dumb concept to just put money in to something that is a ticking time bomb...

they are the same thing technically, the thing is video game skins are more volatile, people could lose interest in the game or skin, the game could introduce better even more rare skins or the game could just stop being played.
crypto doesn't have to worry about people moving on to the next thing as much.

Cryptocurrencies are mathematically secured in that they cannot be artificially duplicated or created outside of mining which gives a predictable output of coins.

Based on your post I'd say you are too low IQ to even have a chance of understanding, because otherwise you'd already know this from basic research.

You make a good point OP. I think the only real argument is basically the fact that we as humans agree that it has value. In that sense, Bitcoin is just like a rare game skin. However, can’t the same be said for gold? Yes it has a few industrial uses, but it’s value comes from 1) rarity and 2) irrational human desire. It is worth something because we agree it is and people want it. This is why Bitcoin is not destined to fail. I’m bullish.

well hard assets are valuable because we know governments have a 100% fail rate at managing their own finances
so going forward we will always need an agreed upon measure of store of value
some thing that can be hidden, easily traded and verified to be real outside of the state controlled system

bitcoin meets the criteria pretty well

The only value anything really has is what people are willing to pay or exchange for it.
This is true whether it's about gold, fiat, or crypto.

Gold has an $8T market cap not because of intrinsic value or anything like that, it's because of the cumulative amount of money of everyone who considers it a store of value. Warren Buffett has it correct in saying gold is also a speculative market, which is not a type of investment he is interested in (understandable but stupid imo).

USD's value comes only from the vendors who accept it as payment. If you went to a country that does not accept USD natively, it has no value there, except to trade it for local currency at the money changers.

Even crypto scams like Link and BSV have value because all the memes have convinced some suckers it has value, so their money is the value it has. In BSV's case, the amount of money Calvin is willing to throw at it to pump it adds to its value. The only risks are the premines, like how Sergey holds 650m of the 1 billion supply.

Bitcoin's value comes from the total cumulative dollars on the buy order side of the order books on exchanges. Nothing more.
And if they decide

Bitcoin is the most secure network on the planet. It is the only way to move $1 billion for $0.6 cents in 10 minutes without a single entity being able to stop it. It is the first of its kind. It is secure by a lot of energy, thus high cost, and game theory. It is also highly deflationary. There is nothing like it, but cheap clones. And most importantly: it doesn't need your understanding for having value. It will most likely live longer than you.
