The low fees mean anyone can easily create a large number of txns in their cache and then push them to the network - causin lsrge waves which is harder for nodes to deal with if you do it faster than they make blocks (I believe (but Thisbe isn’t only a guess based on reading the logs of the idena node) that idena uses the tendermint protocol for block consensus so if a large number of nodes go offline the overall security is reduced). You can do this with the RawTxn method rather than sendTxn. Meaning someone with enough ram and bandwidth could flood a few k txns a second. The mempool Ian limited to 64 txn execution slots per block and so the mempool fills up - not only doesn’t this crash the low power vps it means that others txns have a hard time getting into a block. Just think the ramifications of such an attack if it was committed just before a validation session! It could be truly catastrophic. Hence the reason I proposed an adaptive fee that changes for you based on the number of txns you sent so far in the last 4 hrs, increasing the fee to arround 0.01 DNA and a transaction tier system that would be more complex but would work nicely IMO.

So yeah - I do have the knowledge and I’m not just some clueless teen who wants to flex his ego by knocking out a few low end vpses.

Because you don't just limit it arbitrarily. You run a proper test, you measure what the network can handle, you profile the node in the process to find parts of the code that are bottlenecking performance, optimize them as best you can, and *then* you write 5 lines of code that set the restrictions based on what you found. Oh, and the most important part: you don't do it when you're in testnet.
Just spamming the network brings nothing of value, not in the least because TX spam test was already performed in a drama-less way a month ago and devs have been notified then.
