checked. and yeah, the daily transaction volume is the most bullish chart for Monero right now. In the past week, we were twice close to breaking our all time high in daily transactions despite a literal recession and bear market, and this past month has been the highest monthly amount of daily transactions. It proves that Monero is actually being used.

You may use monerujo on android or cacke wallet. On a desktop I use the official cli wallet, but GUI is fine too.
Once the fundy are in your wallet, you are anonymous.
Monero has a small linear inflation, that will start in 2022. But despite the FUD the supply is not unlimited. In fact monero has the smallest inflation of all pow coins today.

my monero is a pretty lightweight wallet. The monero gui is also pretty cool. I've heard good things about cakewallet.
you can buy monero directly on kraken. Most exchanges have btc/xmr switches too. If you are really paranoid, you can use local monero.
>does it stay completely private wherever it's traded?
pretty much. Once you get Monero from an exchange, transfer it to your wallet. At that point, you are essentially anonymous.
This is for a few reasons:
1. Monero uses ring signatures. Meaning your transaction is mixed with 10 other dummy transactions. A person observing the block chain would have no way of telling which transaction is the real one.
2. Monero uses Ring CT, which makes the transaction amount unknown. (There's complex math behind this, but essentially it makes it so the amount of Monero you send is unknown to people observing the blockchain).
3. Monero uses stealth addresses. So instead of your public wallet address linking to your wallet, your public wallet address is mixed with the transaction, creating a one time address that only your private key can unlock. Because of this, it is impossible to know what somebodies wallet contains even if you have their public address.

two mining pools occupy 59% of the network. So it's really not the end of the world, especially when the Random X fork just assblasted ASICs (and ASIC farms are really the biggest problem with centralization). All this means as that indiviual miners are, 59% of the time, choosing the two largest pools. It would be a problem if these pools were centralized organizations like Bitmain, but they aren't.

Nah he was pretty clearly just trolling Ethereum and moonboys who kept diving into "new paradigm" scams. He'd gone out of his way to prove that trust is a liability, and you need to do your own research instead of dick riding on hype marketing. Here's a followup tweet he made: https://mobile.twitter.com/fluffypony/status/867514780617236480
To be honest with you though, at the time this happened I was pretty pissed. But after getting fucking shat on later by (in retrospect) blatant scams, I now appreciate what he did here. You are correct that the Monero community was divided about it, but there is no evidence he profited from this, as he has made it pretty clear what his intentions were in his follow up.

Decent joke and I'm sure he didn't trade it but I know his chink friends would have.

Funny thing is people weren't mad when he announced the announcement. If he used the "announcement" to talk about any of the ongoing development work (of which there was lots) then people wouldn't have been upset. He used the announcement to prove a fundamental point about Monero development happening transparently and out in the open while also demonstrating how stupid and superficial all the other projects are. Bullish long term but that's definitely not where peoples heads were, which is ironically what prompted the joke.

Name something with a larger anonymity set.

Zksnarks or starks or whatever are not even off the table for Monero. Monero has hardforked in plenty of changes to make things more private. If zksnarks developed to the point where the tradeoffs were worth it, it is likely Monero would implement them.

Churn your outputs if you don't think the current setup is private enough for you.
