6. Payment of Indebtedness Upon Demand. The Customer shall at all times
be liable for the payment upon demand of any obligations owing from the
Customer to Robinhood, and the Customer shall be liable to Robinhood for any
deficiency remaining in any such accounts in the event of the liquidation thereof
(as contemplated in Paragraph 4 of this Agreement or otherwise), in whole or in
part, by Robinhood or by the Customer; and the Customer shall make payment of
such obligations upon demand.
7. Liability for Costs of Collection. The losses, costs and expenses, including but
not limited to reasonable attorneys’ fees and expenses, incurred and payable or
paid by Robinhood in the (i) collection of a debit balance and/or any unpaid
deficiency in the accounts of the Customer with Robinhood or (ii) defense of any
matter arising out of the Customer’s securities transactions, shall be payable to
Robinhood by the Customer.

You agreed to these terms when you opened your account. You're on the hook for that amount. You WILL get a judgement against you, and they WILL garnish your pay and come after you in other legal ways. Your credit history? LOL.

$6k, they might just lump it into a bunch of cases in small claims. $60K? That's debt they're coming after, or will sell it to the highest bidder.

Every lending company outside of major banks and truly shady shit these days uses its own custom ML solution that auto-rejects you if you have a bankruptcy anyway, either through an analytical layer or by virtue of weighing your score down immensely.

Anyone who ends up in this situation without family to bail them out for almost a decade is truly screwed and will wind up in Section 8 for years and years.

This happened to my friend.
He thought he was free from the debt, because he didn't hear much about it. First he got a certified letter. That you got to sign for. He was smart enough not to sign for it. Few weeks later he noticed some signs that someone was trying to break into his apartment. A week after that he got a call. Hard to understand at first, but it said give me the money. Stuff kept getting weird and weirder. Then some guy in a suit came and told him something like you haven't seemed to get the message. Give the money or something bad is going to happen. My friend got scared and went to the cops, but the guy in the suit was there shaking hands with our local mayor.

that's unlikely since they'll really fucking come at you to get at least one upfront initial payment, and if you don't make one or future ones after, they'll begin increasing the amount and get really on your case; even to the point of threatening to get police involved

i told them the truth: i had no idea i owed the money and that i was a teen with no job, they'd just say "well go ask someone for money or we'll charge you more"

the calls became fucking unbearable, to the point where they know for a fact it's harassment: 5 calls in a row, texts, an hour passes, 5 more calls and it would go on for weeks; this is in addition to emails and threatening law enforcement + house visits

that experience was such fucking shit that i've made sure i've never had to owe any money to anyone since then and now (age 25)

Robinhood is shady but it does have an excellent interface and is an objectively well made program, leagues ahead of most big name brokerages. But the process for moving liquidity in and out is suspiciously slow, and its full of little design quirks that are clearly in place to subconsciously encourage riskier plays. Its really no wonder people from reddit are going bankrupt on that app when theres 0 screening for advanced options privileges and they make it as easy as possible to jump right in with no experience, something unheard of with legitimate brokers (who actually care about your money).

Before you even see an options tree they present you suggested contracts that are pre-priced (at mark of course, im sure they actually put them through as mark +/- a few cents and pocket the difference) with an "option profit calculator" using current price and volatility data extrapolated to the theta of the expiry date. It's useless junk data if you understand the amount of math behind options, but a very deceptive way to make safer contracts less appealing to the naive. I also have a bunch that they prioritize executing losses and high risk buys over profit plays. More than once I've attempted to sell green, highly liquid contracts at desirable prices during peak times that should have been instant fills, only to have it sit there while the price starts drifting.

Its a great app for casual trading if you can think for yourself, but id be worried if I had significant holdings wrapped up there.

A glitch in the Robinhood Markets Inc. system is allowing users to trade stocks with excess borrowed funds, giving them access to what amounts to free money.

Dubbed the “infinite money cheat code” by users of Reddit Inc.’s WallStreetBets forum, the bug is being exploited, according to users on the forum. One trader bragged about a $1 million position funded by a $4,000 deposit.

It taught me a lesson about being naive though, and it's perhaps the most important financial lesson and life lesson I've ever learned.

It applies to everyone, including casual social interactions. People who have red flags will fuck you over deeply. Don't tolerate that and hold standards for yourself and interacting with them. I didn't and got fucked over because I saw red flags and ignored them thinking they could be fixed.
