I'm going half and half with mine. Spend 600 on an entry-level ar15 and 600 on precious metal. Thinking of going mostly silver with a little bit of fractional gold just for diversity. I already have a pistol and shotgun so I might decide against the ar15 and go 1000 in metal and 200 in bitcoin for my first purchase.

Palladium and platinum both have limited numbers of primary mines operating today. To this day 40% of platinum mined world wide comes from placer deposits, mined small scale in places like russia and alaska. Palladium only has I think 3 operating major mines running right now, and those are only short term mines unless more ore is discovered. these metals values will go nuts eventually as fewer and fewer mines can meet global demand.

All are good - easy to recognise. When stocks get back start buying 5-10oz a week with your pay-packet. Keep them with the dealer until postage becomes worth while (normally at 60oz). Everyone that works should be doing this. For every 100oz of silver you should also buy 1oz of gold. When stocks are back to normal, buy fractional coins so it's easy going. The premium of fractional coins in gold are OK to live with especially from 1/4oz.

As for the type, I can do 180 ounces bars on Scottsdale but those niggers are slow and my last order a month ago is still processing so im hesitant. Or I can do JM Bullion with their "5+ days shipping" and get 140 oz in 2020 ASE's since mints are closed, mines are closed, I figured 2020 will have a limited number and I heard it is the last year for the current design so these might be worth more than usual for an Eagle.

Or I guess I could just get 20oz of 2020 ASE's and use the rest on bars. I could get like 160 oz that way.

I'm a stacklet who recently purchased some silver. I'm trying to understand more about what actions I should take with my silver when it comes time to act. I understand that precious metals are a store of wealth, but at some point you'd want to spend that wealth which would involve selling for currency or using the coins themselves to buy assets. In a hyperinflation scenario when people are rushing to buy precious metals the price will soar, if I sold then I would gain a lot of currency. But in hyperinflation any currency I earn may become worthless pretty quickly right? So is there some protocol as to when to sell your silver for currency? Do you wait until there is value of the dollar starts to increase or do you wait for the scenario in which the dollar is worthless and a new currency is issued? At which point I would have retained my wealth and would be able to sell my silver for new said currency and then purchase stocks or whatever. If the goal is to use the silver as a means of trade how does this happen? I find it hard to believe we will really go back to using precious metals as money because hardly anyone has precious metals.

In a serious hyperinflation situation what often happens is that individuals start ignoring the laws on what is and isn’t legal tender.

A mix of the best alternative currency and metals takes the place of the national currency. Precisely what is accepted where is at the whim of that individual merchant.

A look at history gives you an idea what that looked like. Before the 19th century you had much more of a free market in currencies, in many countries a mix of coins people were most familiar with were used in markets and stores. In the US this was a combination of Spanish, US and sometimes Chinese silver coins although the latter over time acquired a reputation for being forged.

Basically you can imagine a future where only the most widely recognized and trusted coins are in broad circulation (probably pre-1960s junk silver and gold dollars because they’re hard to forge along with kruggerands and maybe gold maples) while coin shops will be happy to accept a much wider variety of new old and foreign coins.

That’s basically how commerce worked in much if not most of the world before the 19th century.

The spot price has been real for a long time. I've bought at close to spot for coins for a few years now. At this moment it's not happening but it will come back. From my own analysis more physical gold and silver was bought since the start of March to equal more than an average year of sales... and I suspect if there was more to sell even more would have sold. However it's clear that larger dealers have been told to slow down sales, stop sales etc. I've already covered the offer of paper gols/silver being offered now from phyz dealers. The problem is getting your hands on it from a reputable source. People that have a lot of money to drop aren't interested in eBay and secondary markets they want straight from a real dealer. The way gold and silver sold out was as follows: dollar coins first of 1oz size then everything else, followed by dollar coin bars (which there are very few of), followed by non-dollar coins then bars, followed by small bars, then large bars then meme coins that are over priced then 400oz bars. Basically, all that happened over less than a week at most major dealers. It wasn't like there were tens of thousands of peoples rushing the dealers to make the fill... in some cases a couple dozen orders cleared dealers out of almost everything. Today some dealers got some stock back and are open for business.. though I suspect the sales are not going to start backup as people with real money wait and see where they should throw their money at. It might end up being at the COMEX as they are stocking up and if they believe the end is neigh they don't care about coins anymore and it's all about quantity. I don't believe this is that moment though.

it's a fucking oddball because you have to take certain things into accountability. Personally, I hate any silver that isn't government minted due to shitty stores acting like non-government silver is worth half of whatever the current spot will be, so I stick to silver eagles....which before this tyranny test came into play already carried a premium.

It's now a bullshit situation because you have people massively panicking for 101 reasons...silver mints can't keep up...silver mining spots are closing...silver is all sold out at every store....fear from stock market crashing....fear of forced vaccinations causing a Civil war...inflation happening by stimulus checks...

It is beyond a shit show. There is no more controlling this rollercoaster. The longer all this lasts as it is, the higher the prices will go.

Ordered two "in stock" 10 ounce bars from JM on the 2nd and they haven't shipped yet.

Sooo.. 5+ means whenever we can. Cant blame em. But just be aware. I got my 25 ounces of silver casting grain in 5 days from rio grande though!
