1. Don't chase dividend yields. All that is is the dividend divided by the share price. However, a high yield could mean that the share price went down significantly. Study the company and decide if you feel confident that it will rebound.

2. Buy and hold forever. The higher the share price gets, and the higher they raise the dividend the less you paid for it in the first place.

3. Always maintain a cash position in your portfolio. This is so you can buy more stocks should the opportunity arise instead of selling. Furthermore, do not do DRIP. Let your dividend stocks build your cash position and then you buy what you want with that money.

4. Rule of thumb: Value stocks (Assets > Debt, Share Price < NAV) pay dividends, growth stocks (Assets < Debt, Share price
> NAV) do not.

We are a practical and efficient people. We don't have time for European pseudo snobbery rooted in centuries of super classist society.

Warren Buffett has a shitload of KO and that's good enough for me. Utility companies and food are also solid.
Also, consider monthly paying index funds or ETFs. SPLV is mostly utility companies, so if they go under, we've got bigger problems than losing all our money. Vanguard has a ton of bond ETFs divided into corporate/government and short/medium/long term themes.
QYLD is another monthly payer that uses a covered call strategy. Options are a bit above the ability of a brainlet like me to understand, but it's weathered the recent storm fairly well and I'm buying the dip. DIV is another buy and forget monthly paying ETF. I'm not as confident about it long term, though.
