Since it's out in May, you have plenty of time to sell out during a dip. SPY puts and calls have insane theta though so I would try to find an exit unless there's some really really bad news. If the OPEC+ deal fails because the US and other producers don't join in, we can see some interesting things happen in the market. A lot of people forget that a big part of the megacrash was that oil and COVID lockdowns happened at the same time. I really don't think Russia and Saudi Arabia want to make a deal if they don't also kill US shale, which they can afford to because shale will not recover after being broken for years. But I think Trump and shale companies would agree and cartel up prices again rather than die off so we'll see, but that will mean later meetings than this week.

Yeah, I really don't understand why Trump expects SA and Russia to make a deal that benefits the US the most when they sacrifice nothing. Though it could just be his usual art of the bullshit where he takes a retarded stance and backs up on all of it as a "negotiating tactic".

Also, I think this week we will dump back to 260 on Wednesday or Thursday after hitting 270 (most likely Thursday). EOW dump has been happening pretty regularly. Only the OPEC deal will throw a wrench in the dip though, as OPEC news is Thursday and will pump the market hard if it's made.

Also, if coronavirus starts spiking in other states (not NY and what not), I would be more crabbish about next week. NYC and Warhington might have it's light out of the tunnel right now, but a bunch of other states sure as hell haven't.

people are pretty much as retarded as they've always been, same FOMO and FUD, same greed and fear. But now there's computers that recognize the patterns, probably know exactly how to manipulate human psychology without understanding it at all. They just know how to buy and sell, and they've been designed to figure out how to do it ideally.

Besides. you're talking about how the market "should" be? Don't be ridiculous.

They don't need to survive permanently depressed oil prices. They just need to depress oil prices until US shale companies go bankrupt and the industry is ruined (which a majority of them are on the verge of right now). Russia and SA have larger reserves than the shale companies do since they're backed by the state, so there would have to be a literal bailout to save them. And Democrats aren't going to do that. They are not trying to kill the US economy but just US shale. And right now, it's working.

Trump also said they will retaliate against SA if they refuse to cut back on production. also SA are "allies" and they want our billion dollar tank and stealth fighter deals. they dont want to risk losing all that cuttting edge military aid and shit they need against iran, who is actively waging soft ware on them right now. technically a hot war, since if you recall iran launched missiles at SA oil refineries jsut a few months ago. saudis love our fucking high tech weaponry they wont risk losing that. SA also has more room to store than russia does. russia can sell some to china but even china estimates are maybe 10 million barrels a day in consumption for their stockpiles, which is nothing and wont last forever, estimates are china would only do this for a couple months until they are maximum filled on storage as well

world oil prices are not going to skyrocket after a deal on cutbacks is achieved keep that in mind. there might be a slight bump to $30 or $40 MAX from the estimates ive read but world demand is still too low because corona has shut down everything. and many countries are just getting started, look at south america and africa. its going to take at least a year before excess oil is consumed by one analysts account. i dont know just watch bloomberg news and cspan and read drudgereport to make your own opinions. They are just looking for a lazy excuse. I don't know how they aren't paying attention to the changing news, rather than the news that has been anticipated for weeks. They aren't actually looking for evidence that challenges their thesis.

Trump was angry today and rightfully so. when a reporter asked if they plan to do another round of 1,200 Trumpbux he said yes, and this time it would be direct from the feds. he said they tried to do it direct with teh first round but pelosi and the dems wanted it sent to the states first (for obvious reasons). but i think this time Trump and the GOP wont capitulate, they will make it a federal disbursement. the states are too stupid and not set up to account for billions of dollars from a new source

So how exactly do you exercise a call option on Robinhood? If it’s in the money, they exercise it automatically for you, buying your shares at the strike price, BUT ONLY if you have the buying power??

>> No.18329474

US companies persuade Trump/congress to let them join the cuts and break/forgive their current contracts (because they're required to pump even in this shit economy). Alternatively the US tariffs the fuck out of other producers and forces the US to rely on US oil completely (which it really already does), but this just leads to counter tariffs and the loss of US market share (which is still good for Russia and SA).

>>18329336
US shale isn't vital for national security. There are better and more stable sources of US oil than shale (which only started propping up because of high oil prices). And again, it would require the dems to agree to this, who have already stupidly blocked Trump from buying oil for reserves. Trump can't magically get what he wants by acting like a retard. Tariffs would be the only way Trump could partially insulate the industry, but OPEC+ still wins in that case. And even though SA depends on oil, they have more than enough reserves and they are still profitable at low as fuck prices.

There are no good news /as a whole/ at the moment, every instance of positive news is just focusing on individual efforts against the virus as a whole to distract from the fact that 10 million people literally got laid off and rising in the US. Anything and everything else is being used as an excuse to help keep the algos propped up, be it from cutting oil production to getting past the peak. But at this point, it's just burying one's head in the sand and swearing nothing bad is happening while the stocks pump and dump on its own accord, oblivious to the fact that the bubble got popped.

In short, yes, the market is doing great now as it's been given cocaine and hard drugs to get the party up and running again. But until VIX goes near 20 again, there will never be a bull market, only rallies, and the stimulus done to prop the economy up is going to create fallout well into the foreseeable future. The DOW is still down 7k from its peak and that 1600 point swings are possibly the worst thing you can see because it's purely decoupled from any sense of reality.

Being a permabear or a permabull is fucking stupid. Do your research, invest wisely, and follow short-term patterns, not trends. Sticking to one camp and only doing calls or puts is stupidity in a volatile, manipulated economy. Hello frens. SOXL is the answer. Face it; semiconductors are crack in all but name. The desire for newer, faster, more is insatiable. Computers, GPUs, self-driving electric cars, AI enhanced smartphones, medical devices, microcontrollers, networking gear, machine learning, surveillance, infrastructure, military, the list is endless. No matter how many cores, how fast or efficient, demand requires bigger, faster, cheaper, better. The clamor for fresh silicon gives nary shit for national identity, creed, hue, gender, asshole virginity or other vain conceit; the multitude speaks in singular. The plea: semiconductor.
SOXL couples a single ETF entry point with the the best companies the space has to offer then pushes these already stellar returns to the limit with 3x leverage. With SOXL your economic interests are aligned with powerhouses TSM, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Intel, Broadcom, AMD, Micron, Texas Instruments, Applied Materials, et al. Real tech companies with innovative products people want, not """tech""" """companies""" pushing shitty ads. And like all leveraged ETFs, SOXL is rebalanced daily, deftly mitigating margin risks.
Aside from the coronavirus meltdown, SOXL has exploded over 55x yet still we are early. Semiconductor growth will proceed exponentially until every viable space is saturated with it. This is a fait accompli; the sheer number of interested parties and compelling outcomes make it so. The injection of increasingly compact and efficient sensors, microcontrollers, information processing and storage into everywhere and everything will be this era's seminal revolution, a revolution with SOXL holders planted firmly at the receiving end.
Stop waiting for more "pullback". The crash was a gift but fretting over the exact bottom is meaningless. Deliberation is over; waiting is a failure mode. Now. Buy it now.

Here's something I wrote a while back regarding this very point. The percentages need adjusting but the main idea stands
SSO (DBPG for euroanons) is a 2x leveraged ETF based on the S&P 500 and it is one of the few leveraged ETFs that existed before the Great Financial Crisis of 2008. Had you bought SSO (DBPG) at the literal top of the market before the recession in October 2007, as of this moment, you would have gains of 176%. Had you bought the underlying SPY on the same day you would have gains of 98%. So had you bought the leveraged ETF, even at the worst possible time, you still would have ended up with almost double the gains today.
Remember this the next time somebody throws shade on leveraged ETFs because of volatility decay. Buy the index based leveraged ETFs and win. Simple as that. And start buying now. Coronavirus could be as bad as the GFC and if you start buying in now with a little money and buy in more later as the prices drop you will still come out much better in the long run than buying SPY or worse, doing nothing at all. I'm buying and I'll be here when this thing is over to brag about my gains. Do not be afraid. We will get through this and this is your opportunity.

I'm about to crash but I'll type this quick. There's a thing called volatility decay and it is real but don't let it deter you completely. If you're going to buy leveraged ETFs, stick to ones based on broad indexes and certain sectors like tech or semiconductors. Stay far away from commodity based ETFs like any based on oil or gold or whatever else like that. You will lose mo ey on those. You want to look at ones like UPRO which is based on the S&P, TQQQ (based on the Nasdaq), TECL (tech sector), SOXL (semiconductor companies). If you want to play things a little safer, maybe consider SSO since it's only 2x leveraged. Also throw in some TMF, a 3x ETF based on bonds for diversification. Good luck. Same also applies to shorting a market that is being kept alive by the fed...
So what should I do?

Question, instead of halting trading whenever a circuit breaker has been tripped , why not freeze the market price instead, that way sellers can still get out without losing much money and without lowering the value of the asset?

I'm torn between answering your question and pointing out how incredibly dumb it is.

It's literally the same as halting trading , if no one wants to buy then it's just there. What I want to know is why not do it this way instead of totally stopping everybody from doing anything?

You are way out of your depth if you have any money in the market.

Go to investopedia and learn what the stock market is.

LMAO. you can't freeze the price unless you hold buyers at gunpoint and force them to be willing to purchase a stock at a certain price.

I've yet to lose money in this market in my humble 2 years of investing. Now if you don't have anything smart to say then shut the fuck up and don't ever reply to me ever again smartass.

the futures market works like this, where trading is not halted but rather it goes limit up or down. people can still participate, but you will notice there is extremely low volume because the market has moved beyond the limit price, it just won't show up on the chart.

Someone or no-one. It's not inconceivable that someone would buy at a halt-price. Not that I expect volume to be high.

On somewhat related note, why not just make it illegal/impossible to sell at a lower price than you bought something? It sounds ridiculous, but in practice it'd be better than what central banks are trying to do now. It would mean panic-price drops would be impossible. Everyone would have to think long term. If a company is worthless, there is no selling it, you go down with the ship, so you have to think about the investment seriously. There is no short-selling. It's a pyramid scheme that is supposed to go up with inflation.
