All bull and bear team shit aside I really think todays bump is unsustainable with such low volume and the sentiment not really being behind the move up. I think we'll get down to the 210-230s again then make a surprisingly quick recovery back to the 300s by August. Once ventilator production ramps up and there is a halfway decent drug therapy available things will start to open back up. The purpose of flattening the curve was to allow time for production and hospitals to tool up. We probably won't be allowed to have gatherings of 25+ people for a while. Non essential businesses will have to adapt somehow to allow for lower volumes of people to be inside their stores.

What do you guys think?

Can smg explain something to me?
So if I sell a covered call at a strike price very close to the current price of the stock, the premium is more because of the "risk" but the consequence is... I give you my 100 stocks that I already bought at a lower price. So the consequence of the strike price for me is... I didn't get the gains I could've got from holding? Why... Would I not just do this again and again with the same stock?Buy for 10 strike at 11. Oh no you hit my strike price, thanks for the 50 dollars or whatever, take your prize... oh wait you still have to buy the prize from me... For 11 dollars and I paid 10 ... I... Am the loser in this?

What am I missing here? Why can't I purposely set a price I know will trigger so I can just collect premmies?

if it goes way up, you gain less than you would've
that's it
you seem to grasp the fundamental qualitative art of it (do I make money or do I not); but you might not understand the explicit math of it, the quantitative part.

The best /smg/ example is dobber. He's smart: he found a great stock and executed a great strategy. He was selling covered call on AMD. He made good money on that last year.
BUT he lost overall in opportunity cost; if he had been BUYING the same AMD calls that he was selling, he would have made a lot more in 2019. a MASSIVE amount more if you consider compounding.

it's one of those things you have to do some math or experience over time to understand. two sides to the coin, or something like that...

ah the point is: if you find a stock that you KNOW is going to moon (compared to the IV that the options market is pricing in) you buy calls
it's not better to sell covered calls on a stock that is going to PUMP or going to crab from your perspective, you just want to make sure it doesn't go down.
If it moons, it's fine, but just sub-optimal. If it goes down, that's the issue.

options are complex because of the two extra variables: time and strike.
the way to simplify it is to try and think on both sides of the trade: what value is the buyer getting, what value is the seller getting.
Options as an instrument were meant for hedging and positioning originally, not for wild leveraged speculation. if you make options buying/selling the main thrust of your strategy, you had better know what you're doing ! much better to make buying stocks your main focus and use options as a side project (if at all) IMO

Fuck this clown market. I am so sick and tired of idiots dumping money into bullshit and raising the prices so here's the plan; long non leveraged etf and inverse etf. When the zoomers and Jerome pump the etf is sold and when it tanks like it should the inverse is sold. The only real risk here is that it never goes down to the point where the inverse etf will make money but come the fuck on, it's bound to burn. Anyways see you retards at the finish line

While you're at it, there are educational sections in there as well. Highly recommended. And if you have the time read the intelligent investor and securities analysis. This will give you enough of a fundamental and theoretical basis to begin investing.

I think it's ultimately all on Russia. Trump has stated willingness to lower military aid to SA so they'll likely be weakly incentivized to propose a cut, but there's no such incentive for Russia. If an agreement is made, expect it to be minor cuts from all parties.

US domestic oil production will likely slow regardless of the conclusions of the meeting. A 20% cut was proposed in Texas to be decided on mid-late April. None of this addresses the bigger issue which is poopy demand.

The US is a major consumer market for oil. They basically can't just ignore us if we put a tariff baseline down, they have to deal with that. It bites into their revenue even harder and gives our domestic producers the slightest bit of life and wiggle room which would negate the intention of Russia/SA to effectively kill off all of them for a long time. It's kind of a brute force measure but it's effective when we're talking about a brute force measure like mass dumping of a commodity to kill global competition.

The most relevant use case for natty has in terms of price movements is interior heating. For this reason, prices are known to move in response to long range forecasts indicating colder or warmer winter. Colder increases demand because people use heating more which in turn raises the price. And opposite for warmer. This winter, for instance, was warmer than average and nat gas price slumped earlier this year and late last because of the expected lesser demand.

Nat gas is closely tied to oil price most of the time as it is a byproduct of the drilling process.

the way i think about this current stock market is this:
no one wants to sell their equities to others at a discount. the government will bailout certain people, and those people will take advantage of their position by buying cheapies or buttressing their own stocks.

it's a game of chicken right now, and everyone things there are 50% gains on the other end of this pandemic, so the smart money isn't tossing away their equities regardless of how many bartenders are out of work.

more importantly, this is true internationally too. If the US stock market tanks more than China's or the DAX or CAC, then those countries will buy up cheap equities in US businesses. this pandemic has caused a cold war of central banks: no one is going to let their equities devalue and allow other countries to purchase their country's valuable equity.

People believe that either Jerome's going to pump enough money, or all the stimulus spending is going to fix everything, or that COVID is going to be over in May, or that because the projections were off by a week everything will be good, or not wanting to miss the bottom to buy into the stock market, etc etc. There's a reason why most credible brokers say we are in a recession and that we haven't reached the bottom.

>Are you holding over this weekend or dumping before Friday?
>you don't think market is going to retest?
What in the absolute fuck do you mean by "are you holding over this weekend"???
What the fuck do you think I am? Some kinda little bitch?
I literally just fucking said I'm not selling a single fucking share until we hit a new all-time high and I fucking meant it!

Late stage COVID-19 patients on vents are hypercoaguable & have microangiopathic thrombi resembling TTP/HUS, confirmed on autopsies of COVID-19 patients. Our Intensivists use therapeutic lovenox on vent patients for AC. TPA also studied #COVID19 #SARSCoV2

Any thoughts if this will reduce death count in a meaningful way?

>It's fine to ride SPXL up, but if you're actually waiting to reach ATH's you're going to get rebalanced out of all your money before then.
It would take a single day 33% nose dive for SPXL to get blown out like what happened to XIV.
I really am waiting until we hit a new ATH before selling.
I'll post my social security number before I sell. Screencap this, you little cuk

The market goes up now because there is confidence we are peaking, but does that actually mean anything for business?
That is the peak with out current shutdown. We still have to wait out the tail or risk an immediate resurgence and a new peak.

I don't see a return to complete normal even at the EOY. This is a news driven emotional market.
$1200 in trumpbux isn't going to sustain consumption with over 6 million still unemployed.

you may be holding a very poor long term investment for quite some time, and that pleases me greatly.

Ackman promised hell was coming and people believed him. Now we're seeing society didn't fall apart and maybe we have some hope of finding decent treatments. This anticoagulant shit shows promise.

So now the market is shifting from too pessimistic towards too optimistic, and blowing out my inverse etfs in the process.

Woowwwww. Not even in FAANG and you have to do the whole design documents charade.
That was one thing I miss about non-FAANG is that I could pump out 1000 lines of code, and nobody bats a fucking eye.
Brand new files. Whole class abstractions, code style choices. A quick thumbs up in half an hour from the boss giving it a glance and my shit was in prod.

>Nice. I don't want to go into FAANG because I just think it is annoying having to do all that studying for the interview

AWS is stressful as shit, but almost anything else isn't too bad.
My plan is to just do it a couple years, then pack up and use my skills to mow shit down as an exec back home.

>why did it peak so much earlier than anticipated?
We are just now seeing the results of our lockdown, but we have not peaked yet, because we have pushed the peak far off.
Too far off, which is actually the same problem swept under the rug and delayed.

Does this mean that, whatever is building right now is just going to come crumbling down when that reality hits? We haven't reached the bottom yet if that is the case.

there will be ground state changes post april

- weather changes
- behavioral changes
- treatment changes

It's not going to return to the state that led to the same sort of peaks from March in USA.

At the same time the top-star treatments like plasma / antibody will be hitting for Fall.

We likely won't have the sort of reaction that leads to -35% market again
