you can do both you know. in fact, a portion of the money i make day trading i wind up putting into long term investments so it actually gives me an additional revenue source i can bolster my long term DCA'ing with. you really only need like $50k, $25k at a minimum, to trade with. all you have to do is maintain that amount and the rest you can do whatever you want with. if i had a million dollars i'd still only trade around $50k-100k position sizes at a time.
