imagine thinking quarantine will ever be over. This is it now for the foreseeable future, to "save lives" we will indefinitely sacrifice basically all of our freedom and most people will lap it up.

Here in the UK the new laws basically allowing police to do absolutely anything will be in force for two years, and you can bet by then we'll be used to it enough that they can keep it. IN CASE THERE IS ANOTHER PANDEMICCC

>> No.18285067

Elective surgeries are being cancelled due to the virus, but the virus will be an issue for about four to five more months at absolute most from that perspective. A new great depression will go well beyond when the virus has ceased to become a serious issue. Anyways we've still got surgeries going on in the OR, but obviously at a significantly decreased rate. People are still getting breast cancer, bleeding out of their various orifices, breaking limbs (though less now since people are going out less) and other such things that require quick intervention. OR nurses take a good 10 months to train up with no OR experience so we're valuable enough that none of us are getting laid off. Hell I'm still getting paid for 40 hours even with reduced hours for everyone

Are you an idiot?
Consider that both businesses and consumers are burning through their savings right now (assuming most of the 10 million aren't on unemployment benefits).
So businesses require a certain amount of liquid to be able to maintain operations. Restaurants need to have enough to buy ingredients and pay for gas and electricity, factories also similarly need to maintain equipment and pay the bills. So assuming that most of the people who just lost their jobs are either from companies that are small and burning their own savings or corporations that don't give a fuck about them (and thus have slower hiring mechanisms), it's going to be some time before any of those businesses can get the liquid they need to start back normal operations again.
But lets say all the businesses DO start up again. Who's going to buy shit? The consumers who just lost all their savings from staying inside all day for 2-3 months? People don't spend money unless they feel secure that they have enough in the bank for an emergency and much of the savings most people are using right now were saved up over the course of years. So people are going to continue to save most of their money for the next several years until they feel like their emergency fund is strong enough.

You have no idea what the lifestyle of the average American is, do you?

Also, did you seriously just make an argument for the collapse of business' based on the need to purchase produce and maintain factory equipment when there are no fucking customers and the business' are closed in the first place? You do realize that in order for a restaurant to make food it has to actually be open right? The only thing restaurants are paying right now would be property taxes, and if a business can't go for a month or two without an income because of poor money management they deserve to go bankrupt. Moreover most Americans don't have any emergency savings in the first place, over 70% live paycheck to paycheck.

> Is unlawfully fined £800 for it

> Reaction of the average British person: "Support the police, convict her now!"

Legislation has already been passed, with hardly a murmur of dissent, which allows us to be locked up in a mental asylum on the word of a single doctor; and we can be fined £1000 for refusing a coronavirus test. Meanwhile, the police, using drones, are stalking innocent dog-walkers in the countryside, and maintaining checkpoints on the roads. This is now the country we live in; and yet in the comments sections of British newspapers, bootlickers are actually begging for the army to come in and "break the arms and legs" of those who resist the quarantines.

This is way of thinking is probably why so many NPCs aren’t worried about the economic consequences of all this. If they had their way, they’d follow Bill Gates’ suggestion that we quarantine for 10 more weeks (bringing us into mid-June). No. We need to set a firm date where we just return to work and cut our losses. The depression will be far worse than the virus. I’m not worried at all about the virus anymore.
