Reposting
Small-time investor here, am I better off diversifying my portfolio or going all in on a single promising position if I'm seeking out bargains in the bear market? I'm not day trading or being overly speculative so I don't stand to lose much on a position if it dips further next week as long as it's going to be climbing this time next year, right?

I think you must be confusing me for Savanon. The only "biopharma" stock that I'm invested in or have ever seriously invested in is SNSS, which, I have on good authority is going to the moon! I chose this name earlier just because someone asked Savanon (who as far as I remember was not posting at that time) when Sava was going to take off. Seeing that, I though it was funny to assume the name "Savvyanon," especially in the context of a stocks thread. I forgot I even had the name field still filled out when I started posting in the current thread, but kept it when I realized how angry it made that one guy, especially after what he said about Michelle!

there's no harm in diversifying right now - it's safe and pretty much everything is down so you'll still make more. Just set up some automatic investing mechanism and forget about it.

If you want to pick one stock I'd go with Boeing, but you don't know when it'll recover and to what degree.

That's a very good point, but it's not entirely true. Yes, it's true that stocks may be "cheap" for a reason and are not actually a bargain at all. Likewise, stocks may be "expensive," but they may command a premium for good reason, and may be very strong companies with a lot of growth potential. That said, not all stocks are equally cheap now, and many stocks are still not really cheap at all. Looking at competitors to Kohls, take Ross (ROST) or TJX for example. Just to take a PE ratio as a quick measure of cheapness, both are trading at multiples greater than 15. KSS is trading at less than 3. There may be good reason for that difference, but it looks like it merits further research.

Trick question. push() is available on a stack, but Java's Queue implementation only has add().

The most important rule of investing is not to lose money. This is no time to be recklessly buying bull ETFs like SPXL, much less ETFs with 3x leverage. You are exposing yourself to certain near-term loss, which will KILL YOUR GAINS over the long-term. You should always hold investments that offer a sufficient margin of safety, such as SDOW or SPXU.

Yes, zoomer. You are incorrect. 20+ yr Treasuries still have yield to give and institutions, pensions, and foreign countries (Japan) have to buy them (even if they had negative yield. That's OK. Go ahead and throw your hard earned wagecuck shekels away with a 3x S&P fund during a prolonged high VIX environment.

Read the ddnums link. Slightly below 3X is optimal for long-term holding of S&P.
No, 1X is not optimal. Why would it be? Why would it be more optimal than 0.9X or 1.1X?
If the market goes up on average, then you can increase the leverage until it is overtaken by drawdown, which occurs a little before 3X.
(NOTE: for NASDAQ, optimal leverage is roughly 2X, which is why I picked SPXL instead of TQQQ)

No, but for 2 reasons.
1) Options were invented by the Jews as an efficient means for parting the goyim with their money. Stop fucking doing that.
2) Puts are typically used for bearfaggotry. You can't just hold onto a bearfag position and eventually break even. With bullfaggotry, you can. Clear cut example: you could buy SPY at the peak prior to the 07/08 recession and still eventually break even. If you did the inverse and mistakenly shorted at the bottom instead, you'd never make your money back.

no, just another 2008.
the virus and shutdowns aren't the problem as those will end and are relatively easy to resolve in terms of their impact.
but what is not going to resolve quickly is people finding out that the "delay" in paying their mortgages that the CARES act grants is actually just forbearance and that they're going to be expected to pay the whole amount at the end of the 3-6 month forbearance period.
in june-september you are going to have a shit load of people defaulting on their mortgages because they didn't read the fine print to understand the consequences of forbearance, and they haven't been working and their unemployment isn't enough to finance their debt and now they are expected to pay out the ass.
this will cause all the lenders to go fucking tits up, and THAT is gonna be an issue.

but still, not fucking breadline bullshit, just another recession.

>It is unclear whether the proposal, which comes as several workers on oil platforms test positive for the new virus, is still under serious consideration. But shuttering gulf platforms over health concerns would also have the effect of curtailing U.S. oil production amid a world-wide glut of oil that has sent prices plummeting.

>If the U.S. shut down all Gulf of Mexico production, it would cut about two million barrels a day from overall U.S. production of about 13 million barrels a day. Such forced cuts would be controversial with many in the oil industry, the people said.

>The saudis are not hurting nearly as much as the shale producers. Saudi Aramco is not at risk of bankruptcy. The frackers has their first bankruptcy this week, let’s see what happens over the next month.

Look into that. Then look into the amount of oils estimated to be in the Permian vs. the saudi deposits. It’s not the same game.

The saudis aren’t going bankrupt, their cost of production is far less than the frackers.

the price of stock is tied to the value of a company. the value of a company is derived from many factors, most notably something called revenue. as the economy shuts down, revenue is suffering. therefore, the company is worth less money. therefore, the shares are worth less money.

No and there is a mistake to this even some pro analysts showing up on the biz news are, maybe or maybe no sincerely*, making. There is a key difference between event based recession, which this is, and systemic collapse recession, like 2008 and some other notable historic recessions were. Some people are smearing that line and bundling them together like they're the same. Concluding they have the same outcome. That is incorrect. Corona chan ripped the bandaid off hard but the system hasn't, and I don't think will, collapse as thoroughly as it has in the past from systemic collapse recessions. In fact, much to the bears' frustration it may very well kick the 2008 can even further down the road.

With corona chan market I expect a slow but volatile rise that will only gain strength as the balance of news turns to majority positive when the recovery stage is in full swing. This is as opposed to an '08 style where things were slow bleed until reality it and THEN the panic selling began. Corona crash selling has been all upfront and right away with the rapid initial drop that almost hit 1987 level of severity and speed. Now you're going to get a situation where blue chip companies are too cheap to pass up for longs despite waves of bad news washing over everything. Underlying assumption of the market, I think, is recovery period should be full steam ahead by fall at the latest.

The MAX is a functional aircraft but they completely failed at the purpose of its design to be flyable by any pilot with experience flying other 737s with minimal additional training. Now the situation involves specialized training and MAX specific simulators. Fintel turned to shit a bit after they made ownership filings partially premium but the data is still free. You just have to do 3 more extra clicks now to get the same information.
Still way better than SEC's Edgar which gives you eye cancer.
Sqzme has the only actual quantitative edge I know about. He explained everything he does in his white papers which means that you can recreate everything yourself 100% for free.
He provides his stats for spy for free. The rest is meant for professionals. If you want dix and gex for individual stocks or need help in recreating it yourself just ask him on twitter. He will help you.

Fascinating, gobbled up that whitepaper and documentation.
So basically the DIX currently is at a record high > 50%, GEX very low. S&P 500 going down in the days timeframe (GEX) but big rally in month timeframe (cf DIX). Or is that an overly simple view?

Yes, but bear market is unprecedented environment as dix only goes back to '11. No one knows how to interpret it in this context.
Dix basically shows latent buying and is easily negated by aggressive action on lit exchanges.
GEX is volatility forecast but you can also see it as a sentiment indicator. One thing we know is that gex was consistently negative in the '08 bear market. I think we're due for an short term upswing tho.
