I have a question: Why did Tesla choose China and Germany as the only two places outside the US for manufacturing facilities? Please base your reasoning off macroeconomic factors such as GDP, GNP, income levels, and population.

China = cheap labour

Germany sites test efficiency theories for production, then Tesla gets China to implement and build on a fraction of the cost

Every automotive company is in those 3 markets.

China & USA should be self-explanatory.

So why Germany?

- 80 mln people market, biggest country in Europe, Russia doesn't count since it is a poor shithole

- German government gives very big donations on R&D and electrification, soon will have good network of charging stations

- lots of automotive integrators that are high-class

- mature laws & automotive sector regulations as well as lobbyist

- just behind the border you have Poland which is to Germany the same as Mexico is to USA

t. works for Tier 1 automotive supplier, has 3 centrals in Germany, China & Canada/USA, while having supporting plants & backoffices in Portugal, Poland, Mexico, Romania, Hungary etc.
