Saying there will be a depression or even a recession again is like saying small pox or polio will ever be a major issue again. We know more about economies and how to manage them than we ever have in history. Trillions have gone into the research. Simulations have been run around the clock for decades. We have conquered the very concept of a downturn. We have slaughtered your black swan and made foie gras out of it. This is hard to accept, because it requires you to both accept that 1. there are people out there FAR more intelligent than you and 2. they have things under control. As a result, your life is not and will likely never be that interesting. You're a component of a controlled system. A recession or depression will not rescue you from the high quality life, the best quality of life currently available quite frankly that can still allow stability to be maintained, that you have been given. You might be feel trapped, but that's a good thing. It means the system is working and it also means NO recessions or depressions. We have "beaten" economics

At this point I'm seriously curious as to whether shit will continue to collapse. I don't mean the stock markets.
I mean society. Like to the point where even local governments are token government structures at best. Right now the Federal government to me is all but irrelevant and the state government is only providing some general guidance. The local government is still functioning, but only just. Police protection stops at the town line and even the highway patrol aren't even pulling people over.

It's beginning to look a little mad max. If we begin seeing reports of roving gangs I'm fucking done.

Curious about this situation myself. Direxion, who runs GUSH, recently stood up a bio tech/pharma leveraged fund. Does that mean with all this crazy shit surrounding the oil/energy industry that they could kill GUSH?

In other words, what percentage of your portfolio would you entrust to a long GUSH position. Because depending how far back you go into GUSH's history, a return to prior levels could see anywhere from a 50x - 2000x ROI.

Crucially, the concept of a "return to historical levels" isn't a thing with leveraged or inverse ETFs.
It doesn't exist, there is no "historical levels" or "normal" to return to. You have to be able to understand that.

>> No.18234043

>The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday asked companies to stop selling all forms of the heartburn drug Zantac, after concluding that a potential cancer-causing contaminant can build up in the drug when stored for long periods.

>The agency also recommended that consumers who use over-the-counter forms of the drug, also known as ranitidine, stop taking it and that they should dispose of any tablets or liquid that they have. People who take prescription forms of the drug should speak with their doctors about other options before stopping treatment.

>Most manufacturers withdrew their products from the market several months ago, after an outside pharmacy raised the alarm about the drug last year. Large pharmacy chains, including Walgreens, Rite Aid and CVS, had also removed all of the products from their shelves.

Why do people think we will get a vacccine for the new one? It's not going to fade until the vast majority of people are infected, delaying the spread is only prolonging the social and economic harm.

Healthy young people should be having coronavirus parties to purposely spread the virus to increase herd immunity and protect the most vulnerable.

I can't speak for the rest of these but I don't think the insights of mathematics are purely ultra specialized. Studying mathematics causes you to see structures and relationships in everything. The problem is that the field of maths is so extensive that you'll never even start to scratch the surface unless you dedicate your life to studying it. But if you can accept that and lower your expectations for your self, and just pick one small part of it you want to understand, you'll find that whatever it is you choose to pursue in maths will alter the way you see things in a very satisfying way.

My BA $100 24apr put recovered today but my SPY and QQQ puts expiring friday failed to recover at all. I would need tomorrow and Friday to be 20% drops both days to get in the money. I basically wasted about a grand on those shits. I have a couple SPY puts expiring 24 apr that are holding at about -50%, but I think they'll recover if we keep sliding steadily. We just can't pump and crab repeatedly.

I bought more WES and MRO and put a limit buy order in on PAA at 4.85, I expect that to execute at open tomorrow unless we open well into the green. Overall I'm down about $500 on options overall and my stocks portfolio is down 25%, mainly on PCG and BHC.

It's a holdover from WW1 and WW2 nationalism propaganda. It worked in the 1900s because so many people were in fact veterans who had in fact deployed and fought wars overseas. It was a metaphor they understood and identified with. It started to fall apart with Vietnam and the negative reaction to that war and completely fell apart as a propagandistic tool with the wars on drugs, poverty, and AIDS. We only haven't updated the language because boomers are fucking stupid and think people still identify with the term. Obama, a millenial, didn't call his healthcare plan a war on healthcare. Yeah, that's how it works man. Then I sell when I net a hefty profit during the next bull run. I'm also buying lots of BTC for when that moons. My target is $2M in liquid assets that I'll the invest in safe divvys and bonds (and a little bit of crypto and PM and real estate) to coast the rest of my life on $100k/yr passive income. I hope to hit that goal in the next eleven years at the latest, but hopefully much sooner (depending on BTC mooning).
