the price of bitcoin is largely determined by supply and demand, this makes bitcoin more similar to a security or a traditional commodity than a currency in some ways.

The supply of bitcoin is not growing much larger and will eventually no longer grow at all. This means that bitcoin unlike US dollars or Yuan does not loose 1-5% of its value every year to inflation.

This also means that as the demand for bitcoin continues to increase as it has been for the last 5 years the "price" or the US dollar value per Bitcoin will likely continue to gain.

this can easily be understood with a simple example:

say there are 100 "shitcoins" and they represent ~$100, based on market demand or how much money people have already payed for the coins.

Now say 5 years later there are still only 100 shitcoins because the shitcoin network will only ever allow this many shitcoins to exist. except now there are large shitcoin exchanges where millions of dollars of other currencies are traded for these same 100 shitcoins every day.
