Is Disney too powerful?

>Buys Marvel so they own the MCU
>Buys Lucasfilm so they own Star Wars
>Buys 20th Century Fox so they own The Simpsons, plus the entire history of 20thC Fox movies

Also I was just reading about the "Big Five" Hollywood film studios, and Disney's market share in North America is FAR greater than ANY other studio (thanks in part to their 20th Century Fox acquisition):
>33.5% - Disney
>13.9% - WarnerMedia (Warner Bros.)
>12.1% - Sony Pictures (inc. Columbia Pictures)
>11.5% - NBCUniversal (Universal Pictures)
>5% - ViacomCBS (Paramount Pictures)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_film_studio#Current

So that means Sony's NA market share is MORE THAN DOUBLE that of the next biggest player, WarnerMedia.

Why has the American government allowed this to happen?
What benefit do Disney's acquisitions give to the general public?
When will a new Teddy Roosevelt come along and break up the trusts and conglomerates?

That's not what's going to happen. What's going to happen is that one conglomerate is going to eventually control all of the "intellectual property" until humanity decides to abolish intellectual property and usher in a new era.

it'll be interesting to see where disney goes in the upcoming years, as there were a whole bunch of problems surfacing right before the virus hit

>there is no one in the Disney family atm currently involved with the corporation
>last person was Roy E. Disney, who left in 2005
>CEO Bob Iger didn't have any creative vision, just purchased stuff that he thought could make money
>Marvel made a lot of money, but the future is uncertain as Endgame has finished and there all of the major players/characters have finished their runs/contracts
>Star Wars did not generate the revenue it should have(due to the whole franchise after acquisition being a clusterfuck)
>Remakes are making money, but excitement and attitude are changing
>Remakes also show that the corporation is lazy and would rather recycle old stories/content and have people consume it rather than try to create new IPs.
>Next CEO Bob Chapek has a history of skimping and cutting costs on theme park attractions
>The creation of Disney+ may fall short due to the beginning of the streaming wars
>underlying issues with woke culture
>hollywood being creatively bankrupt

I think I covered all the issues but I may have missed a few. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney loses some of it's popularity in the coming decade

tldr disney needs to cultivate soul

Disney did not buy Lucasfilm, Marvel, Fox, with money they have saved over the years.. they borrowed the money, they currently (before 2020) had 40 billion $ in debt.

The government can bail out Boeing, the Cruise industry, Airlines, they can bail all sort of companies out that are reasonably affected by the corona virus. Much harder to bailout a company like Disney or Facebook, which shouldn't be in any trouble because of corona, if they have trouble it would be themselves that are responsible.

I suggest you don't worry as much. An entertainment pseudo-monopoly is nothing to worry about. Entertainment is not a necessary good and unlike oil that can just be stumbled upon even by retards, crafting high-quality entertainment needs actual talent. And with the autistic nepotism that comes with these empires, Disney will eventually just collapse on itself by giving big franchises to absolute retards.

What's more disgusting is that the copywrite law is unconstitutional. The constitution specifically states that Congress is allowed to protect authors and their ideas. A company can't be an author because it's not a living thing and when the actual author dies, he can no longer be subject to territorial rights.

To be honest I think Comcast (owners of NBCUniversal, i.e. NBC and Universal Pictures) and AT&T (owners of WarnerMedia, i.e. Warner Bros., CNN, HBO, etc.) are far too big as well.

Those three in particular - Disney, Comcast, AT&T - are far too big.

And the biggest question, as I said in the OP, is what benefit do companies of this size give to consumers? Lower prices? Fucking doubt it - when companies get this powerful, they RAISE prices, because they know they're the only people you can get a decent service from.

I think I saw an interview with Bill Gates once where he said he preferred taxes to pitchforks - that is, he thought more taxes on the wealthy were a good idea, or else rising wealth inequality would cause the rest of society to grab pitchforks. I can't find that quote, but here's a similar quote, from another rich guy:
>In fact, there is no example in human history where wealth accumulated like this and the pitchforks didn’t eventually come out.
https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/06/the-pitchforks-are-coming-for-us-plutocrats-108014

If you think I'm just ranting because other people are richer than me, instead of what I'm actually doing, which is highlighting a problem which is OBJECTIVELY growing, then see pic related, which is from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wealth_inequality_in_the_United_States

There are also tons of other graphs showing how wealth inequality in western countries has been rising over the last few decades, and continues to rise today. This is a trend which is unsustainable. There will be a straw that breaks the camel's back.

They're not too powerful, but they're too corrupt, arrogant and bloated. The FOX acquisition was one of the most moronic and pointless ventures they ever dared to take and now its backfiring on them hard.

Now that any of it matters now. The parks are their primary source of profits. Without them, they're fucked.

They are 50+ billion in debt and currently shut down. They are just another massively overleveraged company using debt to buy back their own stock. They will eventually fail on a long enough timeline.
