So far the flight into the dollar has curbed fears of inflation. But Powell is now going way overboard. Not talking about the "Oh no, they killed my puts with a 2% pump oh nooo!" stuff, but the general unlimited buying of US securities.
All while every other central bank is already knee deep in QE and has not many measures left.

I fear we might actually see a real inflation of the dollar. Also depending on oil of course, but that kind of lost its correlation when the US became the ones producing the most oil...

I was that guy. I also recently wrote an article about QE. I'll past it in 2 sections:

Hello all. As you may know, in recent times, there has been a considerable amount of QE injected into the system. How much? Well you can do the research yourself. A little about me, I am an avid analyst, I have an interest in business systems, economies, etc, and the behavioral patterns of different aspects of differing economies, among other things.

Today I proposed the question of, is QE good? And the answer is, well it can be. QE works great when businesses do not continually hoard money. So say for example, 3 trillion is injected into the economy, 1/2 of that is given to the top, and 1/2 is given to the bottom. If the bottom (consumers) profits and incomes/savings do not grow in parallel to the top (large businesses, etc.), then it becomes an issue of wealth transfer. So realistically, QE works well, in an economy where wealth is not continually strategized to be sapped out of consumers. In America this is very much the case. Millions if not billions of dollars are poured into R&D, consumer solutions, consumer research/analysis, and so forth. Company profits have soared cumulatively (by my estimation) over the past who knows how many years, yet wages have not, nor has consumer buying power. In fact it has shrunk in comparison to QE by the looks of it.

So how is this fixed? Well. QE must be given equally to all aspects of society. QE is meant to address liquidity issues, and when it is given to businesses, and not consumers, the liquidity overall is not exactly beneficial to the economy as a whole. So essentially, QE must be given to everyone, considering it causes an increase in monetary base, and subsequently, inflation. As we all very well know, this has not been the case. The spirit of QE may have been pure, but the utility of it has been far from competent and it’s application has been less than ideal.

Sorry, 3 sections.

As a result, I believe this has been a large driver in increased consumerism, increased poor money management, and so on, from the consumer base. After all, if you are going to slave away for x amount of years, might as well have some fun, right?

Now here's the kicker. In order to benefit equally as a consumer, you must also leverage generally in line with how businesses do so.
The issue here is that, businesses are hedged, from bankruptcies, acting as separate entities, and so on, where as the consumer, cannot default without accepting liability of debts, and become insolvent. There is no way out of consumer debt, unless by grace given or some sort of deal is worked out. Generally I have not seen much of this. So, in order for inequality to be alleviated, the debt/leveraging/credit playing field must be equal for all sides. Granted, consumer spending does not generally produce GDP directly, but it is the opposite side of businesses. In the case of America, we see a considerable lopsidedness to the benefit of the businesses, so the wealth will continue to flow upward, and the working class's buying power and economic mobility will be continually lessened as time goes on, unless the issues are addressed, or fixed, or unless the businesses start to feel the pain, and send wealth downward a bit more.

So, what does this tell us long term? Well, start a business. It doesn't matter what it is, get out of exchanging time and labors for a devaluing commodity (the US dollar) and start a business. Today, this week, soon. The longer you spend at the bottom, and do not create an entity to have the same advantages of these larger businesses, is the longer and harder a road it will be to accumulating a considerable amount of wealth. It's not just the boomers, but bad policy, and an in-dispensation of justice and fairness in the American economy. Long story short, being an employee and being economically mobile will become more and more challenging as time continues. You may or may not personally notice these challenges sprout up in your life time due to it’s subtlety, but regardless, there is a split between the two as time goes on, and this gap grows wider with each passing day.

I hope you all enjoy this, and hope you can benefit as well.

Be honest biz I bought calls when I should've bought puts right? I get the feeling I finally went against my own intuition in regards to what to do with stock options and I went heavily into lfar out calls. But after what happened with the Fed and treasury I have no idea what's going to happen short term to stocks and would have rather just sat on the sidelines or bought shares (or just happened to make a bet that this thing swings toward the same direction as my options).

A Leap is a long term option. It allows you to profit of good conditions with a small risk but a high upside.

MSFT rose 60% in the last year.
Buying a LEAP call on MSFT Jan. 1st 2019, holding it for a year and selling it on Jan. 1st 2020 would have returned a 1000% profit easily.
You can get a huge return for minimal work. The problem now is the volatile market that makes these things harder.

It doesn't matter. None of this matters. The virus doesn't matter. Worst case it kills 1 million Americans. Then what? People just sit in their houses? Fuck no. People are already tired of that shit and this America anyway, the government can't keep people locked in their houses cuz people will just tell the government to fuck itself and the government will indeed fuck right off. Especially since Trump would be in full agreement anyway.

I fell for the memes last week and bought a couple 4/17 $8 SPY $210p and then a couple other bear options on the way up and another of the same SPY puts for cheaper thinking the market was gonna turn sooner, now down to about 70%. You guys need to be buying more on the way down like I am. Yes you can make 20 dollars here and there swinging between TQQQ and SQQQ but the more you do that the less you're going to be in the right headspace to catch the real rip all the way back up. You'll end up selling out 10% into the move and never getting all the way back in. I already stand to turn this 60k into over 200k when this is all over. As we move down I'll be putting another 100k in that's sitting on the sidelines. If I get that positioned the way I want I'll be sitting on half a million before the year is out. Sure I'll miss a few grand trying to trade the support and resistance but in the end I'll make a whole lot more.

Most companies need to run continuously to maintain cash flow. Cash flow determines their value and eligibility for loans. If they stop getting money for a month, they can't pay suppliers, they can't pay employees, they can't pay rent, they can't pay interest, they can't pay bonds, they can't pay investors. Where are they going to get money to stave over disaster when they were already using it to grow the business? Companies are greedy and stupid just like normal people. If you couldn't pay rent for a month or two, you get evicted, then you can't pay credit cards and get hit with fees and interest, then you cant afford food and you get sick and then you're done. Exact same thing for a company but on a larger, more complex scale.

This. Some hospitals are at max cap and medical staff are getting sick. Lets say you need a appendectomy. Well you go in and during recovery you get corona from the nurse who has no symptoms. With corona alone you might be fine but now you're recovering from corona and surgery. Now you need a ventilator and you should be fine, but oh fuck they gave you a shit barely working one from 1987. Also something weird about corona is that people exposed to more of it seem to get it worse. Some are theorizing the virus has an abnormally high survival length outside the body.

The running on debt has been a concern in the US since the 1970s. Like 90+ percent of American households literally do not have enough money/assets/etc. to meet their financial obligations for more than 30 days. I don't know what the numbers are for the corporate world but I'd expect it's even greedier. The EU has different sets of measures but are also more centralized power, at the top level, bankers and corporations and governments are basically the same thing so they just all agree to not fuck each other. You guys aren't getting it. People aren't social distancing. I drove to the beach earlier and took a picture that I posted in the last thread of a large group of young and old people queuing up at a restaurant like nothing was happening. No masks, no gloves, nothing. Just chilling out as normal. The hospitals are going to get overrun. This will happen very soon and it'll suck bad. In short order many of the most vulnerable will be dead and they won't need medical care any more. The problem of hospital space partially solves itself. The rest of the solution is US industrial capacity going full retard on ventilators, makeshift hospitals, and bringing enough warm bodies up to speed so there are enough health providers to go around. The problem gets dealt with and life goes on. Maximum 3% perish then as I said above life goes on. The vast majority of the population wouldn't have died in any case and many people on the edge will get enough care to pull through. Simple as that. Terrible disease, people die, the rest move on. People are social distancing where I am.and just imagine the outcry when the government decides to just leave people on the curb and let them die. No one who can prevent it is going to do that. I'm not saying your idea couldn't work (I don't think it would) but I very strongly suspect Trump will continue the shelter in place order past April and maybe May.

I’m 24 with no debt, no girlfriend, make 80k and live with my parents. I will continue to do so for the next 2 or 3 years, so I might as well try to set myself up with something interesting to go along with my 401k. I don’t know enough about this stuff to try anything crazy

Should probably throw in some SPY or VOO or VTI. They are some good ETFs that will pay some dividends and diversify without needing to think about it yourself.

They are all pretty similar in that they hold a wide variety of reliable companies. If you want to know more youd have to look at the actual holdings and see if it has companies you like. Otherwise in reality there's little meaningful difference. You could even just put $50 in each and see how they each perform.

Herd Immunity does not exist. It's an unproven MYTH. If herd immunity exists why do we keep getting THE FLU? Oh yeah because it fucking mutates into 4000 different strains!! COVID-19 has already mutated into 40 strains.

Stop believing lies they taught you in 5th grade. It's all fake.
