I'm new to this so this is probably an obvious answer to a dumb question.

But why is everyone talking about job report / unemployment numbers?

What does it have to do with stocks?

ELI5?

Is SQQQ some sort of /biz/ meme? Or is it legit?

What is it exactly?

Triple inverse against NASDAQ. It shorts NASDAQ, meaning value goes up when NASDAQ goes down. It's triple, so for every -% it goes -3(-%). I don't know why people opt for SQQQ as NASDAQ has consistently outperformed S&P and DJI. Either way considering the action at EoD I suspect tomorrow is going to be interesting.

>>18082017

So basically if one buys SQQQ, and tomorrow everything goes to shit due to the job reports, NASDAQ go up SQQQ go up?

>> No.18082226

>>18082200
No you brainlet. NASDAQ goes up, SQQQ goes down by 3% for each 1% and vice versa.

I mistyped my bad.

Why would NASDAQ go up if economy is shit?

Economy takes a shit == SQQQ goes up

>> No.18082846

ECONOMY TAKES A DUMP -> NASDAQ GOES DOWN -> SQQQ GOES UP

The argument would be to buy SQQQ right now, assume we'll see large unemployment numbers tomorrow, and as a result sell off will occurs, hurting the NASDAQ and increasing SQQQ.

>> No.18082874

I'll try to keep it simple.

When it comes to monetary and fiscal policy you can choose to either grow the money supply or shrink the money supply. If you grow the money supply it tends to increase inflation but reduce unemployment. If you shrink the money supply it tends to reduce inflation but increase unemployment.

Right now the government is doing everything it can to grow the money supply using both fiscal and monetary policy during a disaster yet unemployment is still spiking. We haven't had something like this happen since stagflation under Carter during the oil embargo.

Because unemployment means a shitty economy which means line go down,

Last time we had line go down bigly with unemployment was 1929, and that the depression @ 20% unemployment

30% unemployment currently projected with potential for it to become a protracted state for society.

People modelling current market on past events are getting scared, fren.
