i'm still kind of memeing the thought, but i guess i was also memeing the thought that my exams would get cancelled due to corona, and that happened as well.

is this the point where we should start prepping for the imminent collapse of the world economy?
the virus makes no sign of slowing down, even in western countries that have long been locked down, and some of the countries where corona is only starting to spread (us and uk) are badly prepared both in terms of their health care and their leaders trivializing the issue.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but if we continue to follow the 1929 trend, the Dow will have a somewhat crab day and then tomorrow it should fall by a large amount (coincide with the unemployment numbers date) and then it will continue to fall for something like two or three weeks with a few green days, and we will see the (temporary) bottom for... Easter. And then we enter the second phase of the depression and everyone thinks it's over until the third phase begins around September. Honestly, I don't think Trump has chosen this date randomly, it makes quite some sense.

If you've already trimmed labor costs through automation, maintaining the minimum amount of staff to keep operations running might not be as daunting a prospect if you're still supplying the market with product. Additionally, if you were running what is currently a 500-person factory with a crew of 25, your margins would be to the point where you could literally pay those 25 to be 100% housed, along with their families, on premises through the end of the pandemic and effectively quarantine your entire company and not skip a beat with production. If you're the only one manufacturing ANYTHING that is needed on a worldwide basis you are going to capture 100% of the market.

>potentially a million
Son, have you looked at any government projections for this shit? It's potentially over 4 million. 700k+excess deaths from medical supply shortages is the current low end since we missed the 200k boat.

Between new regulations, government bailouts, being required to go all in on emergency stockpiles, losing a fuckton of long term patients that they milk for cash, bans on elective procedures, people treating hospitals like leper colonies until this is over, whatever bullshit's going to happen to the insurance industry, all the supplies going unused due to dead patients, the flood of excess supplies once this is over, and the very elevated death rate among hospital staff that's going to happen, I cannot even fathom the shitstorm that is coming for that industry.

The healthcare industry's going to be a complete shitshow.

Not for a while yet. You'll want to keep an eye out for several things. (1) A reduction in the daily infection numbers. (2) Redeployment of the workforce. (3) As much as people REEEE over this, government support of business and workers (there really is no other options at this point, we're at a stage where the system is too big to fail). We've got a pulse on (3), but the other the other two are complete unknowns.

Do your DD on the companies you're interested in opening long positions on and only dip your toe in the water gradually at entry points you feel fall within your risk tolerance. You can also do some TA and compare to previous downturns to get a feel for how the market momentum/volume is changing on the buy/sell side to gauge where market sentiment is ON TOP of the daily news cycle, which is absolutely chaotic at the moment. Don't try to time it, because you'll only know the bottom after it passes.

>>18072553
I think the upfront cost will be much lower than the opportunity cost if your industry allows you to maintain your supply chain in events such as this and keep whatever raw materials you need for production flowing into your manufacturing. And, of course, outside of black swan events like CV, you'll still have cut labor costs tremendously, which will bolster your bottom line over the long term.

>I wouldn't sleep on self-driving tech at all.
I've got friends from graduate school who did their post-graduate work in ML, and I tend to agree with you there. I think with the full weight of the trucking/logistics industry, as opposed to a lot of the push-back their getting now for potentially cutting a large swath of jobs, then engineers would find solutions to current self-driving technical challenges FOR LOGISTICS. I'm not as plused for everyday around-town driving.

I sold SQQQ at a $1600 loss as futures began to soar ;_; my previous gains of $2100 from SQQQ have been almost entirely eliminated but at least I didn't get completely slaughtered (I put 18k into it). Might buy back in when it drops today in anticipation of tomorrow, or wait to see how the paradigm changes on thursday before making another move. Maybe I'll feel stupid again today if stocks drop but it felt like I was being tortured for a day and a half straight and I just couldn't take it, I have too many obligations to allow myself to be completely rekt.

Just take whatever anons say with a grain of salt and figure out whether or not you want to invest or gamble. Nobody here knows what the markets are going to do, but there are general economic and market trends you can figure out over the long term if you go back to history and compare with and pay attention to what's going on now. Apart from that, it all boils down to your risk tolerance and investment time horizon. There will be a recovery, but nobody knows when or how long it will take (U, V, etc.).
