Why bail anyone out?
People need to learn not to take retarded amounts of consumer debt and have some liquid cash in cash of emergencies. Same with companies as well. Why enable poor decisions and management with government money?

about half of americans have at least $2k on hand. The other half does not.

both halves contain members that vote. Of the ones with more than $2k on hand, probably less than half actually have a single month's salary on hand. Of those that do and even smaller fraction has more than a month's salary on hand.

A month off of work would wipe out something like 2/3rds of US households. More than a month is pushing closer to 80% of americans going bankrupt.

Who do they sell their stuff too if most of the country is out of work, and about to be in mandatory lockdown?
They didn't choose to be jobless, the government is making them for 4-8 months

It's the state goverments that are shutting down businesses.

Shouldn't the state goverments pay these unemployed people? Or provide them with assistance like food stamps, halt mortgages/rent, provide free gasoline?

In principle yes, i reality these qualifications thrown in are just going to stop anyone getting anything by bogging everything down in a bureaucratic mess.

$1-2k per adult US Citizen with no other qualifications.

If the government decides to later tax it back from those who are rich and didn't need it then fine, but just get the fucking money out there ASAP.
