If you are new, gold and silver should be your main focus as they are more common and user friendly so to speak.Gold and silver are common household names. Platinum and palladium are a bit in uncharted territories, and not as popular. Not to go off-topic, but I personally love platinum, it's my second highest hold next to gold. The thing is that rhodium is super expensive and is more volatile than most realize. It did shoot from $5.6k to nearly $14k in a quick amount of time. But now it's back to the same. It is essentially not market friendly, and not known to most potential consoomers and investors. I hope that makes sense.

Gold packs more value for the same weight and space.
Remember you are on the 4chins before following advice.
Set a percentage of dollar value you want to have in gold (say, 90%) and silver (10%). This will be your "price." When the value of one stack falls below the percentage, make new purchases to add to that stack, until it is balanced.
My opinion is that gold is more convenient and stable (specially .9999 coins, not the gold-copper alloyed AGEs). You should have some silver too, but more or less as a bet.
In an emergency, the ability to carry your stacks with you is desirable. Even a monster box of ASEs is too heavy.

Hey, I'm new and doing some research, but I wanted to ask for some advice or info sources.
I was looking into silver coins and since I'm in europe figures I'd go for Wiener Philharmoniker. The current spot price as of today is about 12 euros/oz, whereas cheapest price for coins was 17-18 euros. As far as I read it was supposed to sell for 2-3 dollars abive the spot price. Now I understand the price crashed about a week ago, but is the coin price expected to do go down too? Btw I'm seeing that some online sellers are running out of coins and are accepting only orders of more than 300$. I suppose it's not normal?
I also wanted to ask, how fast does the coin value change in respect to the spot price. I'm seeing that coins are currently sold for 4-5€ more than they're bought for. Is this usually the case?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy industrial-application gold rather than coins? Like gold wire or foil or something?

No, none of this is usually the case. We're seeing mass liquidation of the paper silver market (plummeting the spot price) while simultaneously seeing a massive run on physical silver (i.e. coins and bullion).

The skyrocketing demand for physical has completely depleted almost everyone's stocks and so now they have put in place minimum orders plus massive premiums over spot to buy anything. $1-2 over spot is the norm, and now we're seeing everything at like $7-10 over spot, and that's if they have any inventory to begin with.

I don't want to tell you what you should do, but I will say that if you're worried about the future of the economy and the value of the dollar/Euro then even accounting for the extreme premium, the end price really isn't that far off from what silver has sold for over the past year.

If you're a newb, then yes stick with national bullion coins like Silver Eagles, Austrian Philharmonics, Krugerrands, etc. bought from a reputable source. Don't buy based on
