There are cases where people aren't counted as fully recovered yet. According to the site 8% of cases are severe and 92% are considered mild.

Recovery takes weeks, even up to a month in quarantine
For a death to be reported the person just has to be found dead. A ton more of those active cases are going to be recoveries, it should level out at about 4%

South Korea death rate is low (and more accurate) primarily because they aggressively tested and discovered it spreads fast but most people can't even tell they have it whole getting a headstart on treatment of severe cases

Italy didn't test anyone and weighted their results to the cases displaying the worst symptoms, simultaneously allowing it to rapidly spread among their particularly old and vulnerable population, now beds are overwhelmed as all the worst cases come at once and lack of treatment exaggerated the death rate further

Chinese sources that MAY be the case and IF so the ancient strain may be deadlier etc. This garnered immediate debate and refutations, as viruses exist on a spectrum anyway and if you select for the worst cases your results obviously show the worst cases. Media ran with it because it's a scare story, bow it's gone because it properly isn't true
