Like that recession in 1981. Have that radical change quickly. It’s painful but the economy can move on quickly from it.

At least go to mainland China before typing this bullshit. They did that shit literally out of desperation and they fucked themselves incredibly hard because no one has positive sentiments in regards to China anymore. China's biggest problem has been controlling China which is why all their dynasties have been obsessed with stomping out the past and ending in massive civil war. You really are attributing way too many positive attributes to just being stupid.

now personally, i like charts and TA and whatnot, but i think in this instance, its more about trying to figure out which banks and which corporations are at the highest risk of defaulting on one another. it could easily chain react and bring us MUCH lower than 08s bottom imo, but thats if fed slips
if they dont, im SURE several low hanging fruit will still be lehmanD/bearstearnsD tho. theres just no other way.

Zoomer/millenial here. Never lived through a recession before and apparently this crash was supposed to be the biggest one we've had in a while. How do we know for sure this is the start of a recession and not simply panic? I've heard a lot of people arguing that this panic is the START of a recession, which I could see as being reasonable but what specifically causes a recession in the first place?

For instance, 2008 as I understand it the recession was caused by banks lending out money essentially to anyone who would take it to buy houses, at which point many jobs were lost and so many people couldn't pay their loans back that it caused a collapse. What would be the factors at play this time? Housing is overpriced but inflation has also kept people's wages up so overbloated housing prices I could see, but only in locations with major cities where property is insanely expensive. China is forcing it's citizens to go back to work so while there will be a decline in overall production for a while IF the virus can be contained it will essentially be crisis averted, no? Right now whether people agree with political stances or not at the very least my state has been pretty on top of it (WA) and our governor has shut down every public and private school until the end of April to contain it. Although the death toll is worse than many virus' with the current numbers (excluding China, I don't believe they're accurately reporting theirs so I don't want to assume their infection rate and death toll has actually leveled off).

TL:DR: What specifically would cause a recession in these scenarios? Why are people selling? And for those that are selling, why? Cash seems like it would be pretty much useless in any recession, physical goods seem to be the only safe haven. Ironically toilet paper might be worth more than cash if the worse case scenario projections happen

I actually kinda believe Trump is correct when virus goes away and people go back to normalcy things won't be as bad as bears are saying.

1) Every decent store will have sold more food and household goods then they have in five years - earnings will be insane
2) Any streaming service stock (including Apple) will have subscriptions through the roof
3) There is a miniscule 0.005% chance March Madness gets pushed back to April if this virus blows over quicker than people think this causes travel stocks to explode along with reassurances government will bail them out
4) Tech stocks will suck ass nothing ya can do about that
5) Medical stocks are going to be LITAF when companies are getting government contracts to make COVID-19 tests and various sniffles drugs make companies like Walgreens 80 a share by end of year - its basically like a year long cold and flu season
6) Chinese stocks are going to lead the way and have mad gains soon

When Bush and company pushed through the Patriot Act, the military did not give a fuck and willingly went to go make profits for the military-industrial complex.

Korean worker takes a $40k field engineer salary with a happy smile and does 80 hour work weeks because he's an insect brain Korean. Same for Chinese and other countries. US construction and O&G companies used to be kings of multinational contracts, especially with people like the Saudis and Emirates. That golden era of petroleum engineers traveling the world making $200k-300k salaries on the King's payroll is gone. That's why Fluor is shitting the bed. That's why Halliburton, Parsons and KBR are consolidating. Bechtel is privately owned, but they can't win contracts anymore. They're getting bids that won't get financed because O&G is too fucking cheap to be profitable for the foreseeable future.

Maybe Trump increases our Strategic Petroleum Reserve to 1 Trillion barrels, maybe the Saudis and Russians realize how fucked they would be if they do this for more than 3 months. You can profit from this in the short term, but you can also lose everything.
But for the long term, I can almost promise you that American O&G as we know it is gone. It's been in a bear market since 2015.

Still its hilarious he embraced a path to capitalism before the end, and that in the end Trotsky though of soialism/communism as though they had created "merely a new system for repression" and that these people who cut their penises off to fit into oversized dresses still worship them, in spite of the fact the fathers of socialism disavowed it, and every socialist leader of the 20th century would have had them shot for being decadent freaks made soft and effeminates by their spoiled consumerist parents.

The fed should just be buying shares on the public market directly rather than rate cutting/repo/treasury/MBS bullshit

they're giving money away for free to banks and the banks aren't nibbling - all these banks are sitting on hoards of cash. Cash isn't the problem.

It's who the fuck is going to lend money to business at this point of time and more so, what business will take out a loan now?

better just dump the 700 billion into equity markets and the taxpayers will get 100% of that back plus more once this blows over

this should've been their second course of action

and this is why its so easy to subvert
we do not live in 100 years ago bud
we live in a psyop memestate surveillance hell
and its MUCH worse than it was in 2012

first ones down to such events are the people that lose everything
the people that know the score try to inform the others of whats what, and everyone has a clear goal in mind (very specific retribution against key individuals/entities).

then come the memesters, trying to proselytize their "holy books". more numbers are always welcome, but THEN come the saboteurs. and you know what they look like?
they look like the memesters. and they act like em too
eventually everyone is pissing and moaning aver irrelevant shit because, obviously, the only common ground anyone has is the want for some sort of justice against those who wronged them. and in almost ALL cases, such individuals are extremely specific, while almost everyone else (sometimes even their own """porky""" peers) are collateral damage as well.

do you think low hanging fruit hedgefunds dont lose their everything as well? do you think they feel GOOD about losing ALL of their clients retirement funds, as well as all of their own money, and even their own jobs? and do you think that these guys are the ones that set the rules that make the whole market so absolutely FUCKED?
fuck no, theyre little fish themselves

its only the big fish that need to be fried
being specific and concise in your retribution/action will get you much further than trying to "re-educate" some blue collar bydlo on why he should have a poster of lenin in his bedroom

It's actually kind of funny, Lenin even very earlier on admired the fordist production framework in America and did his best to copy it. There were some ideological sympathies between the two countries earlier on, despite the foreign intervention: two continent spanning movements overthrowing the old ways and creating modern industrial societies.

Ideology and economic systems are not the same thing anon, and this is the first thing you'll need to learn to understand history. Socialists have historically been very poor proponents of socialism compared to the capitalists (with the exception of the capitalist state).

The economic and historical contradictions that marx pointed out all those years ago have largely not gone away, the possibility for the expropriation of capitalists in advanced countries remains. However, I expect that the threat of this expropriation is what will define our new epoch more than its realization, unfortunately.

market forgot how to exist without the free infinite money glitch
ten years of fiscal autopilot, and a bunch of banks starved for rates
here we are

i mean let's be honest, it doesn't matter what anybody does, untill corona chan is cured no amount of money will fix anything and shit will keep going down
at this point i'd say we should just halt global trading markets

Many businesses will go bankrupt in a few months if they aren't bailed out.

Omg, this is where you will get a kicker. I know doctors in both Seatle and New York. You should check the following:
1)the average age of the person included in the mortality rate
2)how low the mortality rate really is

You guys still think this is going to be way worse than it really is.

Yet they're not turning off that glitch, they're just tossing in trillions of dollars, discussing bailouts, etc.
I don't think we will ever see a "hands off" economy in America ever again. They can't help themselves, they just NEED to interfere.

Futures are a strange thing. I would Take them with a grain of salt.

but when they hit the limits and don’t budge then it means something. Either the buying pressure or selling pressure is extremely high. The limit for futures is +5% or -5%.

The stupid thing is that because central banks are fucking with the prices on everything, it means there is no price discovery. They buy all the bonds, the yield goes to zero, people have to buy shit assets to get any yield, credit bubbles start to form. Companies start doing stock buy backs rather than invest in capex.

Central banks have a lot to answer for imo.

i was talking about volpcolypse and the 10yr yield spike specifically. yellen did it so slow and the rates were still so low that it didnt matter.
we shouldve raised the rates out of the "lol literally nothing" range as SOON as we got out of crisis. that way we wouldnt have had larger corps who were OBVIOUSLY never planning on paying anything back, borrowing money on lev to buy their own fucking stocks

but they got greedy (AGAIN) and then just shorted the VIX for like 8 years, while the corps figured theyd never have to pay over 0.25% ever again

>I don't think we will ever see a "hands off" economy in America ever again

Yep. And he’s been saying it this whole time, with the exception of the “my oscillator says start buying something” moment. Which, if you did, you had plenty of chances to sell at a profit. If you got too greedy like me, well now you’re holding MSFT for a 20% loss.

He also said Microsoft has a AAA rated balance sheet so they shouldn’t go under... r-right guys?

No one needed a crystal ball to see this coming. Virologists have been warning about this exact scenario since SARS. The emergence in Wuhan happened last year. That's what's so retarded about his comment that no one was thinking about this a month ago. You'd have to be dumber than a nigger not to have been watching this since the start of the year and preparing, yet we don't even have the silly parking lot testing sites up and running with expanded testing capabilities online.

What was it earlier, that one fag that was asked by a reporter if he had the number of people that have been tested and he didn't actually have the number? How the fuck do you hold a press conference and not have that number?

the media is irrelevant, even to most normalfags now. yet they somehow dictate whether or not things get done because polis are scafred of the 3 people that still consume MSM will stop voting for them
its all so fucking fucked
