Want the real redpill?

Japan has had negative interest rates for some time.
Japan keeps ticking with clever tactics
The great Japanese bubble was a huge experiment and case study by the USA. They initiated it by giving Japan 0 export taxes, and free technology.

The USA has learned what happens after an impossible amount of fake money is floating around, and how to manage it so it doesn't explode. Japan is a huge case study and experiment of the USA on everything from QE to negative rates.
Notice how Yen pretty much pumps whenever USD is in the shitter? Its all to do with these clever banking tactics.

Dont be surprised what what the USA can pull off from what they learned from their ginea pig

They’re technically loans, so it isn’t just “given away” exactly. They’re supposed to receive it back with small interest. But now that the rates are zero they’re basically giving it away, though of course it still has to be returned to them. That is only for repo stuff though, outright purchases (which they are doing) of course sends cash into the economy in exchange for bonds, which the Fed will hold on to until it decides it wants to unload that stuff back into the market. Theoretically then it will receive some of its money back.

It's not so much that the US has negative rates, but the MASSIVE out-of-meeting-cut that took place to get there.

It's a GFC-era response.

It's not the mortgage rates you should be worry about, it's the housing prices. They are likely to drop in the short term as people who might have been in the market for a house delay their plans due to a layoff, general uncertainty, etc.

However, if you're planning to live in the place long term (as you should be, if you're buying a house) don't worry about it. You can look into refinancing and the rule of thumb is that if your reduced payments would pay for themselves over a year, it's worth doing the refinance.

Interstingly enough, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, etc. virtually all individual stocks that make up the Tech 100 are up +5-10%, while Tech is down as much as S&P500.

Why are the overall market going down, when the individual stocks it is composed of goes up? a difference in volume perhaps?

Memes aside, I'm genuinely terrified about what this means for the near-term future of US bonds.
