Is it true most boomers don’t plan to give anything back to their kids?

My friends parent are selling the house, taking everything out of their retirement and spending their golden years and cash reserves traveling and consooming. My friend will not get one cent of it.

It might depend a bit on the area. I think in the country they are more generational and about the family line. My parents are passing on the assets and land that have been in our family for 4 generations to my brother and I with the only stipulation to not sell the land and try to add to it if we can.

other anon said it, but they already did that. to be fair, I doubt it was presented in that way to them, but it's not like they couldn't have figured it out.

I don't think the world owes you anything, and although your parents do owe you SOMETHING for bringing you into this world, leaving a large inheritance shouldn't be their number one priority. Although the people that purposely go out of their way to spend everything and say their kids aren't getting shit are a little sick imo. Easy come, easy go I suppose, it would be nice if more boomers acknowledged the realities of today versus 50 years ago instead of being salty when they realize they grew up playing life on easy in a lot of ways and still blew it.

To show their love, they instill the same "tough love" unto their kids, failing to understand how vastly underfunded their kids are at 18 in comparison to themselves. They deny this for self-preservation, and if it's not from that, there's an always an excuse why they will not support their kids. That's painful in and of itself, but bare in mind there's a ton of baby boomers amassing huge dude that will wipe out their estate, leaving their kids with nothing but guilt. Every ounce of material wealth anyone gains is given in one way or another from the prior generation. We don't even give ourselves the life we live and the air we breath. The wealth of the western world is built on over 2000 years of labor, philosophy, religion, war and peace. None of it was created out of thin air by your boomer parents

Boomers hate their children because being a parent forces you not to prioritize yourself. Just look at how they pat themselves on the back for doing nothing more than what's legally required of them. I have yet to see any evidence of this beyond the Chinese and Indians. I'm white and my family has generally stuck together through a lot of difficult things both financially and socially, and they're from Germany, one of the more degraded western countries in terms of keeping family tradition etc. I can count on my hand the number of black and hispanic friends that I've had who inherited a single thing from their father. One coworker I knew had a father who abandoned both of the women he got pregnant with when they found out about each other, and didn't leave an inheritance despite making massive amounts slinging coke.

I was also too young for a bank account so I waited 4 years to get that $500. I swear on God I will never participate in this world. Like, whatever game this is, I refuse to play. Hispanic families actually stick up for each other though, they're usually just poor. Notice how college have entire separate Hispanic graduation ceremonies. Every single member of the extended family will celebrate when one kid achieves anything no matter how trivial.

In my white family I'm lucky if a family member will agree to pick me up at the airport.
