I'm conservative af, probably more than you, and voted for Trump. But the Fed's mandate is to control inflation and ensure maximum employment, not pump money into the stock market. $1.5 trillion vanished in a matter of minutes. It literally benefited no one, and the markets will continue to crash tomorrow. Up until today I always thought liberals were retards for wanting their student debt paid off, but after watching this debacle from the Fed I am rather appalled. I studied economics in college and interned at the Fed, so I am knowledgable in forming my opinion on this subject. That being said, the government is literally buying companies, which is basically socialism. Trump said America would never be a socialist country, but him and the Fed are full of it

Can anyone explain dividends to me? You get a return based on the amount of shares you are holding right? So would be it be advisable to be buying these big name stocks while they go really cheap? How do you recieve the dividends though? Is it deposited into your portfolio as cash?

So if I had 20 shares of a company that pays .42 dividend does that mean I would recieve 20x.42= 8.40 in cash?

Thanks in advanced for anyone willing to explain.

I bring to you today's reading on the market

Zhen Zhen

Taking Action

Zhen (Thunder) above Zhen (Thunder)

Sequence of the Gua: For taking charge of a sacrificial vessel, no one is more suitable than the eldest son. Thus, after Establishing the New, Taking Action follows.

The upper part of the ideograph is the rain falling form Heaven. The lower part of the ideograph is the character Chen. Chen was related to the third solar term, called the Waking of Insects, which takes place on the sixth day of the third month of the Chinese lunar calendar (March 27). During this period, thunder roars. The thunder proclaims that spring is arriving. All hibernating insects and animals awaken and tiny sprouts emerge.

Decision:

Taking Action
Prosperous and smooth
Thunder comes- alarm! Alarm!
Laughing and talking-ha, ha!
Thunder shocks in the distance
The sacrificial spoon and chalice do not fall

The moving line for this reading is the Second Six
Thunder comes
Adversity
Greatly losing treasure.
Climbing over nine hills,
Do not pursue
Seven days: regained.

Allow me to kinda explain: I'll use T as an example. Right now a single T share forks out 2.08 a year (0.52 x 4). The price of a single share is $32 -33 now. So you buy 20 shares. Your out $660 assuming you paid 33 a share for the lot. You'd get 41.6 a year in Divvy income. The key is drip. The 52 w high of T was 38 - 39. So 41.6 / 39. You'd get 1.06 more shares this year. Next year you'd have 21.06 shares all paying out 2.08 a year per share. (assuming no divvy hikes). Also the lower the stock price at Divvy payout time is, the more share you get for your money. So enjoy this dip. Your divvy payouts will earn you more.

This time around it feels way more like a doomsday where half the people are saying 10% of the world will die and your stocks might lose 20% value in a day and so on. it definitely feels like a true crisis. 2008 was a bit of a meme in comparison, to me at least.

Dividends are voluntary payments that companies announce based upon decisions by their board of directors. They are not guaranteed by amount or time. They can decide to do a dollar per share, a penny per share, or say fuck you and give you nothing.

They are deposited into your account dependent on your settings. For virtually all brokerage houses you can choose to have them pay in cash, or to automatically reinvest. However some shit-tier stocks won't allow you to reinvest due to the market being too thin or other factors.

And yes, a dividend of .42 cents means you get that many cents per share that you own by the ex date. The ex date is when they "cancel" who is entitled to the dividend. The ex date is generally 2 days before the record date, and the payment date can be whenever the fuck they want it to be.

Most of the media has been squawking about a recession/correction for years now, and it's here. Now everyone is "HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN?" - which happens every time.
Experts on the way up, dumbfounded clowns on the way down. Every time.
The market was way oversold. This wiped that out, and then some. The recovery will be solid, unlike the fake recoveries since 2008. Now is the time to pull the trigger at the Fed level to fix some issues, like refi-ing the national debt, etc, so we'll see what they do. The market injections are throwing money away, the kicking the can down the road has come home to roost, but it's all they know now.
Exciting times, fellas. We come out of this stronger, or we sink. I'm okay for the next year, I think. I have reserves, and as long as I'm employed, I'm okay.

Yeah exactly, it was a regular run of the mill crisis, and you were fucked if you got hit but otherwise nothing much was happening. You went on with life normally, for the most part.

Now its a huge financial hit, quarantines, people will be losing jobs all the same as they cant go to work and the companies cant afford to pay them, travel bans, banning all gatherings, etc. Its like a perfect storm of a crisis.

Plus, another factor that shouldnt be taken lightly, tthis is the first big crisis in the age of widespread access to instant stock trading and so on. People can sell and buy stocks within 10 seconds without having to call a broker and so on for the first time in history. I dont think any patterns we ever saw before for how long a crash will be or how fast will serve us this time.

-buy shares of a company that you like in multiples of 100
-sell Call options at a price you’d be willing to sell your stock at, 1 contract per 100 shares
-repeat every week and collect your welfare premium

The best part is like an hour after saying that Boris Johnson came out and said that the UK actually has between 5000 and 10000 cases instead of the 500 they had tested so far, which puts the UK far ahead in infections than most of the EU, and it has the most deaths after Italy.

Also, London Heathrow is a major hub for europeans to travel to the US anyway, so its not like banning most other countries even matters if euros will just travel FROM London either way.

He. Needs. To. Go.
