>>I can make no augment, compelling or otherwise, for the market to rise in real terms in the next year
>Cool. Doubling down on shorts and gold
Actually I was running out the door to have dinner with my wife so didn't have time to address your specific macroeconomic concerns.
All that said, lemme give it to you straight, Bobo. I have 2 fundamental beliefs about the market. 1 is that the price in the long term will be higher than it is today. Secondly, in the short to medium term the price will go up and down. When the price is down I buy. When it is up I hold. The entire explanation is as simple as that. The following is a more concrete example I have been posting all week but I'll post it again for posterity:
SSO (DBPG for euroanons) is a 2x leveraged ETF based on the S&P 500 and it is one of the few leveraged ETFs that existed before the Great Financial Crisis of 2008. Had you bought SSO (DBPG) at the literal top of the market before the recession in October 2007, as of this moment, you would have gains of 176%. Had you bought the underlying SPY on the same day you would have gains of 98%. So had you bought the leveraged ETF, even at the worst possible time, you still would have ended up with almost double the gains today.
Remember this the next time somebody throws shade on leveraged ETFs because of volatility decay. Buy the index based leveraged ETFs and win. Simple as that. And start buying now. Coronavirus could be as bad as the GFC and if you start buying in now with a little money and buy in more later as the prices drop you will still come out much better in the long run than buying SPY or worse, doing nothing at all. I'm buying and I'll be here when this thing is over to brag about my gains. Do not be afraid. We will get through this and this is your opportunity. Join me and get rich.

Hey so i'm new to all of this.
I was told by the rumblings of people that stocks were crashing due to coronavirus.
I opened a brokerage account, juiced it up, and everything I look at is on its way up!
Of course I'm only looking in the tech sector because that's all I can think of and think they would be hit hardest by Chinese export crashes. But what the hell?

I have a simple goal, I want to grab things that pay out dividends so that I can have a more passive income. The first target is to pay my electric bill with the dividend payouts. I figured it would be a good time to grab things while they dive in companies that should reasonably weather the storm....but..that doesn't seem to be the case.

So what is really getting hit by all of this? What industries?
I'm also not opposed to doing some actual trading but my main goal is to generate a passive income. Ultimate goal to be independent of an employer.

To our Shareholders,
in these trying times...

We here at UVXYinc. regret to inform you that today's error was a result of some huge fucking faggots that were not ready to fuck the market They, like the pussy ass wh*te bithes they is, bent over and spread for some nigga named Jerome. Our Human Resources dept. is in the process of initiating a lengthy investigation into the matter, and should be finished within 5-7 trading days. So far, we have identified and dealt with many of the biggest faggots, but it remains to be seen in the next few days whether more faggots come to light. Rest assured, my precious shareholders, they will be found and taught a fucking lesson. FINRA ain't got fucking SHIT on what imma bout to do to these lil niggas. I'm gonna rip their fucking tiny ass little wh*teboi diccs off, then shove it down their fucking throats so fucking hard they'll be shitting em out. I'll find their fucking wives, fornicate with the fucking whores, then when the baby comes out imma fuck that too then shove it back inside that nasty ass cunt.

As a way to apologize to our loyal shareholders, we have put together a small presentation of me, Dr. Micheal Tyson, personally dealing with these fucking faggots.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImxUpS1UseA
As you ill likely see, these bitches ain't got shit. We know that this will not be enough to satisfy some shareholders, but nevertheless, once the investigation into the rampant faggotry, that had become endemic within some of our staff, is complete, we will be looking into starting up a brand new stock buyback program.
We look forward to sharing a very bright future with all of you, and eagerly anticipate reporting a KNOCKOUT Earnings Report to you all next quarter.

Fuck the market.
Fuck it till it loves you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Michael "Iron Mike" Tyson, CEO of UVXYinc™

SOXL is the answer. Face it. Semiconductors are crack in all but name. The desire for newer, faster, more is insatiable. Computers, GPUs, self-driving electric cars, AI enhanced smartphones, medical devices, microcontrollers, networking gear, machine learning, surveillance, infrastructure, military, the list is endless. No matter how many cores, how fast or efficient, demand requires bigger, faster, cheaper, better. The clamor for fresh silicon gives nary shit for national identity, creed, hue, gender, asshole virginity or other vain conceit; the multitude speaks in singular. The plea: semiconductor.
SOXL couples a single ETF entry point with the the best companies the space has to offer then pushes these already stellar returns to the limit with 3x leverage. With SOXL your economic interests are aligned with powerhouses TSM, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Intel, Broadcom, AMD, Micron, Texas Instruments, Applied Materials, et al. Real tech companies with innovative products people want, not """tech""" """companies""" pushing shitty ads. And like all leveraged ETFs, SOXL is rebalanced daily, deftly mitigating margin risks.
In the last 7 years, SOXL has exploded over 55x yet still we are early. Semiconductor growth will proceed exponentially until every viable space is saturated with it. This is a fait accompli; the sheer number of interested parties and compelling outcomes make it so. The injection of increasingly compact and efficient sensors, microcontrollers, information processing and storage into everywhere and everything will be this era's seminal revolution, a revolution with SOXL holders planted firmly at the receiving end.
Stop waiting for the "pullback". The Coronafud is a gift and where we're going, fretting over a few more dollars is meaningless. The deliberation is over; waiting is a failure mode. Now. Buy it now.

I don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to invest. Just a few thousand a year I'm comfortable applying.

Also, i'm not going to be actually paying my bills with this stuff, of course i'm going to reinvest. But the idea is that if I can one day get to the point where my normal income is equated or supplanted by this passive income then I have become financially independent of any given employer.
I'm not looking to be a million or billionaire with some sick trading, I'm just looking to be able to live comfortably, as I am now, minus the dependency on an employer.

>But the idea is that if I can one day get to the point where my normal income is equated or supplanted by this passive income then I have become financially independent of any given employer.
passive income doesn't mean much in the context of stocks. selling for capital gains or taking those gains as dividends is mostly about the tax consequences.
use a retirement calculator to figure out you should be putting away to reach your goals. nit picking about dividends isn't going to help much.

You have a couple of options. Most 401k's are based on your age. The youngest get 90 stocks/10 bonds and when you retire, you should be 10 stocks/90 bonds. These are designed in such a way where you come out positive at the end, adjusted for inflation, so as long as you do not profit take.

Treasuries come in different forms. You have bonds and TIPS [protects against inflation], both are intended to be places you can park your cash. The most risky types are junk bonds, which are loans to companies that have a high probability to default. There are also corporate bonds which have higher yields. The interest income is higher for these companies.

You don't want to be in bonds forever, else you won't really make that much money. They're only good for weathering out storms like these ones, and to profit take.

The risk-free bonds are US treasuries, as the government can print itself out of its deficit. If you know you're in a bubble, you can adjust the allocation by selling stocks and buying bonds [just like the hedge funds did last week, and just like I did when I looked at the leading recession indicators, copper prices, PMI data, oil prices]. When no one wants to touch stocks, you go back to 90/10 again, or to whatever you find less risky. Typically, the lower the yield, the safer the asset. US treasuries are legally "risk-free".

Municipal bonds work too, but they have a higher chance of default, due to local governments doing stupid shit with that money.

I held since 2008, and I'm only partially long but cautiously optimistic, with some of my portfolio in stocks. I'm fine with missing out 2 years for lower gains when I know the markets are not properly tracking economic productivity right now.

Also read up on Modern Portfolio Therory.

But from what I can tell, everything seems to have ups and downs. Some have huge ups/booms but those never last and then there is a sort of normalization. I can live with the normalization.
It doesn't seem entirely worth it to get into something that's already normalized if I'm going to play the trading game. I simply don't have enough cash to make it worth it by trading hundreds maybe thousands of shares of something as soon as it ticks up a few points and then on to the next one.

I also don't have a whole lot of time in the day when the markets are open. Maybe a lunch break.

>its not about predicting tops or bottoms. its about using the most recent/available information to make high probability plays. you arent using any information other than "the fed will cut rates", "the don will tweet about it" and everything will be ok. if thats youre gameplan youre literally playing checkers like a retard, while everyone around you is playing chess.
I don't know if the fed will cut rates or not and if they do I don't know what will or won't happen with enough specificity to time the market. You don't either but you seem think you can . You are a fool and your "probability" means nothing cuz if some level of quantitative certainty could be attached to these events they already would have by minds much smarter than yours and the price would reflect that. It "probably" does. I trade in a way that I am not subject to those probabilities. The fact is the numbers will in the future be higher than they are today and in the medium/short term they will fluctuate. When the go down I buy. That's the highest probability long-term play. Not trying to outsmart a market full of people with infinitely more information and more importantly, the money to soak all the relevant liquidity to act on the information, than you have or can. This is your mistake. Even if you're "right" you are wrong cuz you just got lucky and luck runs out. Sometimes the market acts "irrationality" (not really but for the sake of argument) and sometimes your broker forgets to get the fucking date right in their app and your shorts get BTFO'd. I slept until noon today cuz the short term vicissitudes of the market are irrelevant to my stack. I win either way cuz I play in the direction of the house. You are guaranteed to eventually lose cuz you think you are playing against the house when actually you are playing the house's game just on the loser's side.

Ahh, the classic trap. People see that Macs are expensive, thus only rich people can own them, therefore they must be a status symbol for wealth, right?
WRONG. Macs are made for people with more money than sense, not for people who are rich through merit. Only an absolute concave-skull would spend 4 times the money for half the power, one fourth the breadth of function, and none of the modular repair/upgrade ability of a PC.

That's the point, anon.
What other people think about you for having a Mac is irrelevant. It isn't a status symbol. It's a piece of crap that actively hinders your abilities. My opinion doesn't mean anything on this, because I'm not the one getting in your way, you are, by owning a Mac.

Market timing with retail constraints amounts to an unfactored game of Martingale and you are guaranteed to lose cuz while you think you are playing against the house you are actually playing with the house and in the house's game you are always on the loser's side.
