I've looked into foreclosure auctions, which is how shit like this gets sold. It's not that easy.
You buy the house and there's a $200k outstanding property tax + debt lien on it.
Also, you're usually not allowed to inspect the house before you buy it. Meaning you basically have to assume it's so bad you'll need to tear it down and build brand new.
And on top of that when you want to go to one of these auctions, they'll require a $5k cash deposit just so you can bid. Usually refundable, but sometimes you're literally paying to play.
It's not an easy game.

Is it bad bro? There are a bunch of them around where I live and seem like the cheap deal. I just don't know if I can get over the stigma of living in a trailer.... it doesn't help that I make 1/3 of what you do either.

So? Get a better job. 4.5% real annual rate of return still pales behind equities, and yet people on here love to bitch about houses for some reason. Probably because the same class of brainlets can't comprehend the power of compound returns.

This is absolutely not true. There is certainly more wealth at that age, but the majority of boomers are in severe debt, and most could not afford a $500 unexpected expense.

In other words, $15,000 in 1959 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $132,974.74 in 2020, a difference of $117,974.74 over 61 years.
